Functional Movement Exercise-Improve balance and walking with this exercise which will help strengthen and coordinate your core muscles. This is the exercise at the end of my 2 Muscles for Better Balance and Walking video. These muscles include the lower abs, the hip flexors, and the glutes. You will really feel your gluteus medius working with this exercise. If you have weakness in these muscles, do the exercise in small bits to build up your strength. Practicing these exercises will help you keep your spine aligned when walking and help you to maintain your balance when on one leg. You can watch the full video with explanation of how to use your lower abs and the gluteus medius.
This integrated functional movement exercise will give you benefits similar to practicing Tai Chi, but you may find it simpler to do than many Tai Chi techniques. The principles behind this exercise are derived from Tai Chi theory and will help you coordinate your upper body and lower body.

Does the online course show the videos thru youtube or elsewhere. I ask because I have ad blocker, an off an on youtube will not allow me access. Does the course go from basic to more complicated, is it systematic in other words...And will the Ebook will go to my files? My left side is much weaker than my right, an this move addresses it far better than the one I made up. I feel that until I can do this with balanced strength there's not much moving on. I do have a question on one of the videos you just posted, which I will pose there. Thank you, impressive work which makes me hopeful.

@@pauljones5933 The course is not attached to RU-vid and has no ads. It is on a platform called Kajabi. The course focuses on learning the principles of using your core and how those apply to all variations of walking. It also goes over specific walking problems and how to correct it, and there are a variety of exercises to help. The course is not an exercise routine, so it it is not something that goes from easy to hard. It is a system of how to understand how your body works.

Greetings from France 🥰. Maybe an angel popped your video in a crochet search 🤣. My addiction to crochet had to come to a halt for a few minutes. 😱🥰 Unbelievable how important it was to keep balance for 2 seconds, had to cling on to the table🤣 I almost fell. I never knew i was walking ALL WRONG, NO SWINGING OF ARMS. I guess it is "normal" as I have to hold my Newfoundlands leash on her walks until she jumps into the water. I did my exercises along with you but OH MY! Rusty hips on fire! Paused and started again. In 2014 i was beaten almost to death, paralyzed after spine injury. Surgery was a success but 10 years later I feel chronic pain in my back limiting my walks to 10 minutes with my GENTLE GIANT. Got knee arthritis by sitting for too long, scared to walk. These wonderful exercises should give me strength. NEVER GIVE UP, MY NEWFIE NEEDS ME. So happy i found your videos of HOPE. Thanks for sharing caring and making a 72 year old SMILE 😊❤ and giving HOPE.

Its surprising how obviously I need to actually learn this & practice until I'm not wobbly at it. You'd think it wouldnt be so awkward - excellent simple thing I can learn to do at home. Your basic vids are super helpful. 68yr old. By now I'd thought I know how to walk lol 😅

Given my infirmities I can feel this pretty dramatically in a short time. I've begun to appreciate just how weakened I've gotten in areas I didn't know about. Your stuff is really good, Doc.

There is no right or wrong to start with right or left foot when turning. Since your left foot is coming into habbit when you are turning to the right with your Left foot, try one small step behind, then walk off with your Right foot :) Its good to be Mobile in both legs leads. When we age, we have to be mobile in different planes of movements to prevent falls and stifness of joints and mobility. Hope this helps you dear 🥰 " THE LORD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU WELL ". ✝️♥️♥️♥️

This exercise may be a little difficult if your balance is off. I will be coming out with some simpler exercises soon.

I have noticed... Whenever I (a 73 year old) am standing at a countertop, or have any other reason to turn around when start to leave, I always (unconsciously) turn to the right. I used to step away by leading with my right foot. Now, I turn around by keeping my right foot planted and start the turn with my left foot in a crossover maneuver. - I didn't realise I do this now until my soleus calf muscle started aching on several occasions; and I began to analyze the cause. I have no idea why I started doing turn differently as I aged. - Maybe, something is going wrong. Maybe developing a "lazy foot." I'm trying to try to vary my turn around move to avoid this issue. Question: What do you recommend? -Do you have a video on turning around in place?

I don’t have a video on turning around in place, but I would start with my circle walking video to get some awareness of what is going on with your core. I may have to do a turning in place video.

I would love a video on turning in place. Just today, I had that soleus issue pop up. I was working in my small woodworking workshop for a couple of hours (It has no chairs). @@ToddMartinMD

Have you done a video about kneeling and standing back up? It feels like I am using my core wrong but I have not been able to figure it out. For now I am just attempting to go to one knee with a minimal amount of arm assistance and even that is difficult at best.

I’m not sure if I’m feeling my gluteus medias, but right up above the point of my hip on my sides I think I feel the obliques when I do this is that correct as well?

The gluteus medius will be on the side back of your butt. The obliques will be in the abdomen, to either side of your belly button.
