190 sq ft is not enough room for me AND a huge dog. If everything works out, I'll take a chainsaw to the side of the cabin in a couple months.

It is for upholstery, the hole is for setting nails in the material edge.

Like others have said - big dog, big truck. Solves so many of the problems you are going to have. I couldn't tell you what kind of truck to get, but even I know that knowing you, it will have to be diesel. You owe it to yourself! And you won't have to worry about making space for the dog. Also, rain collectors. You're going to need a LOT more daily water. Love your channel! It was nice seeing you and Sarah, and listening to your conversation for a change - instead of you having to constantly entertain us with your wit and chainsaw. Thanks for all the hard work you obviously put in to these videos! I haven't looked forward to Saturday mornings this much since Cartoons in the 60's.

The hammer is a tack hammer. The split end is magnetic and a steel tack is stuck to it, then the magnetically stuck tack is hit into the material you are tacking. After the first hit the hammer is spun to use the solid end to drive the tack in. Joe

Its a tack hammer (as lots have said) the groove is for holding the nail or tack so you can set a tack one handed (nobody said yet). Then you turn it around and hammer it home. There is a chance it will be magnetic too, to further help hold the tack. It is often used by upholsters, why? So you can pull fabric taught with one hand while putting the nail in with the other hand.

I very rarely put out any NEGATIVE comments but this video cried out for one… when somebody puts up a Periodic chart you HAVE TO work something into the conversation about not studying it Dailey but periodically. Yes, a BIG DOG would be great for you in the woods. You could talk to it and I’m sure that you would get tons of feedback. When Sarah and Ruby come out it can look at Ruby and ask you if she comes with a bun… yum. Love the tattoos and your color coordinator. Thanks for sharing!

The tattoos are beautiful. Your idea for a doghouse, if you get a dog, sounds pretty good. If the dog does a lot of barking when it hears animals outside at night, that could be a problem, if it would wake you up.

You're such a chainsaw nerd! The periodic table in da woods! 😂 It's a tack hammer. It's magnetic to hold upholstery tacks. I use them for brads. Just like your big hammer setting nails with a tap then hammering it in. You are already building an addition to the cabin! 😂 You're gonna need more water now. How about a cabin water tank with a solar powered 12v pump. Catch the roof runoff into a 30 or 55 gal poly barrel. Dogs drink lots of water. Big dogs drink more. Offer up some tattoo art in a chainsawed wood frame for sale. Great content as usual on Saturday morning.

Full sized closet type room so you add storage in the upper half, roof pitch to the sides not the front so water isn’t dripping in front of the door and snow building up, and small dog. I’ve had big medium and finally small dogs. Small dogs are the best because you can actually take them with you. No idea what kind of Boston terrier/frenchy type dog has longer hair but that’s what I’d try to come up with! No more dogs larger than a Britney for me! lol 👍🏼

Love your entertaining channel. Why not put a small 3-season porch on the front of the cabin for the pup instead? 🐶 It will be multi-functional as an air lock to entry for you, help keep snow and mud out, can be screened in during summer, provide extra space for you, a roof over entry, add canine “security” to repel trespassers, and be plenty warm for the dog if left in there too. A fan from Michigan 🙂

Don't screw around, just build an entire addition off that side. Add the floor, build the walls, extend off the rafter tails, frame in for the same window hole, side it, insolate and side the inside, then support roof, with a temporary wall, and put up a custom log for a beam run, install window and heater. Maybe room for a wood stove. You could do the same thing out the other side as well.

As an owner of two male Leoberners (110/130lbs) that has a seasonal trailer lakeside (similar square footage to the cabin). They like to lay flat out and take up a good amount of floor space. My guys don’t like to use a bed or sleeping mat it gets too hot for them which leads me to my next point. The doghouse will not require heat what trickles in from the cabin will suffice the real issue is keeping them cool in the summer. Mud management will be fun and cleaning towels out there is something to think of, lots of towels. Excited for you I’m from a similar climate Ontario Canada.

In the summer, what you could do to have the door where the dog can't damage it? Get you like? Can I cattle panel? That's made out of heavy duty metal or something hardware club for the inside and then your mosquito knitting on the outside something that he can't claw through on the inside or even pipe tubing, or something like that. It will be easy to make a door to the outside. That's that way, and those dogs don't need as much heat as you think. You can insulate it, but the door won't be as insulated. Because if you make them too hot they'll get sick

Big dogs eat a ton of food a buck a day, and crap a ton of turds, No more walking around with out looking for land mines. Say good buy to local wildlife. Short hair is much easier to care for. Buy 100 feet of #9 wire between 2 trees and a snap end tether so the mutt can stay outside and move around. When she chews off the heater gas line and you die in bed, who gets all your crap? After you build the doggy room, at nite, keep the pup in there. (Like a dog carrier, it will not poop/pee where it sleeps...) After he/she is older, she will know thats it is their space. But make sure you never go in there. It's their spot, not yours. It'll get to where you can tell rufus/rufasina to get in bed and it'll go and know it's safe. Remember, it's their safe spot not yours...

Having had several large dogs (only have 1 now) I found that the doghouse needs to be bigger than you think especially if you think you're going to confine a large powerful dog inside it when you leave. I burst out laughing when you were fantasizing about leaving leashes etc hanging in there... chew toys. I have easily taught all my dogs that their kennel is their "house" from being a puppy on... All I have to do is say "house" and the dog goes in. Dogs like to have their own personal space to escape to when their are new people, commotion, stress or illness. I suggest you build a dog barn on to the side of the cabin with a penned in area... a STURDY fenced in area. When you are gone to town the dog will still need to take care of it's business outdoors... Also the fenced in area allows you to put dogs out whenever they want and you don't need to supervise. You can buy a cheap dog door or make one out of a truck mudflap. I also laughed at your choice of a Bernese.... you are in for a treat. You will learn to dedicate your time to cleaning it and cleaning up after it. Hairy dogs are a maintenance chore. A large dog can drink up to a gallon of water a day.... maybe more in the summer/hot weather. Most dogs can take cold weather and snow. I have had Heelers, Border Collies and Aussues that lived outdoors all year at about the same latitude... (N Idaho)... the Aussie wouldn't even stay in the house in winter because he overheated quickly. What you'll learn is that a long haired dog is a p.i.t.a. to deal with when they're wet or muddy. A shorter haired dog is a lot easier to clean up and dry. My Lab/Shepherd has double fur so outdoor cold is no problem for her and she's easier to dry (and quicker) than my Border Collie and Aussie were. Heelers are compact, intelligent and easy to take care of, a lot less shedding.... You will learn to live with dog fur in EVERYTHING you own including your food lol Choose wisely and you'll make your experience a lot less stress and work. Choosing a dog using your emotions and idealistic vision will lead to a negative experience for both of you. Good luck. Oh yeah... you're going to need a truck or Suburban/Tahoe... The car was o.k. until you decided to stay longer than a couple years but now you need a utility vehicle.. I'm at a loss as to why you haven't dumped the car/traded it off long ago for something appropriate. Oh yeah that's right... you do everything the hard way/Ryan way lol.

My best advice on any dog, especially a large dog is to build a kennel to keep it safe with fresh air, shade, sun (that’s right, both) and drainage. This is important to its well being and your peace of mind. And the second most important thing is to train said pup to be content with being in that kennel. You can say you have no plans to restrain your canine friend in this way but there will be times when you will need to, and introducing Rover to this restraint for the first time late in its life is difficult and in some ways cruel. If you consider this option I’m pretty sure the kennel for the breed you’re talking about must be super beefy! God’s Blessing’s, Curly

Upholstery tack hammer. The face with the slot is likely magnetic so no need to hold short tacks (just place head on magnetic face and tap into fabric, frame).

That is a classic "tack hammer" used for carpet tacks by carpet layers, it's also used by furniture reupholsterers.
