In January 2011, Lacy Aaron Schmidt fatally murdered his friend and former girlfriend, Alana Calahan, at her residence.
Lacy Aaron Schmidt was found guilty of felony murder while committing an aggravated assault, malice murder, possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime, and theft by taking a handgun in February 2012.
According to the prosecution, Lacy Aaron Schmidt premeditated the shooting and had stolen the firearm from Alana’s father.
They claim he shot the Harlem Middle School girl in the back of the head as she posted images to Facebook and then carried her body to the woods behind the house to hide the crime.
Aaron Schmidt received a life sentence.
Schmidt filed an appeal with the Georgia Supreme Court.
According to the appeal, Judge Michael Annis had failed to inform the jury.
They may have found him guilty of the less serious crime of involuntary manslaughter.
In addition, Lacy Aaron Schmidt claimed that his defense attorney was incompetent and that the penalty he received was an example of “cruel and unusual punishment.”
But the highest court, as stated by the justice who presides over the case, P. Harris Hines, has rejected every one of his reasons.

To excuse Aaron, but these detectives are confusing me and I'm an adult with no issues focusing. I can totally see why and how that many different versions were told by him. Eta: please don't come for me! He was always going to be proven guilty because he did it. I'm just saying that the tactics, tones, comments, etc they are approaching him with are not effective. He has ADHD and other trauma related issues (according to family), I also believe he's in ese at school. So they should have taken a different approach. Kids like him get certain services in school because of where they are mentally, socially, etc. If they had taken a different approach there would have potentially less wiggle room for his lawyer.

I totally agree with you! I don’t even understand how they didn’t Miranda him until over an hour & 28mins, and then because they didn’t choose to read him the Miranda I’m shocked his attorney didn’t get the entire multiple story piece of evidence suppressed. Because his statements should not have been able to be used against him until like the cop says after being Mirandized (which they claim happened as soon as he put the gun into his own hands- that story/version)

Agreed. I have been watching this from the beginning and after watching this I really question what happened and how is happened

100000% agree. Yes he did it. Yes he deserves punishment regardless of how it happened but they don't make sense and often they tell him something doesn't make sense that absolutely does make sense. He is special needs and it should have definitely been handled differently. And the fact that they didn't read him his rights til they were already talking for so long is crazy and I'm surprised they didn't fight harder to get this not admissible in court cuz I would think they would have won that battle

Well, there’s one little girl, who’s family will sadly never see her potential, & who’d for sure be alive today, if only someone had the good sense, to lock up a deadly weapon! But, whatever,..they never seem to learn….😔

How difficult is it I wonder, for these police departments to bring in someone to teach these D’s, how to ask open ended questions, f to 🤫 🤐….& allow the bad guys to talk @ key intervals? Man, would it cut down on the over time! Maybe even get them to watch the Smythe interview of Russel Williams for a starter!…just sayin’ this is not a criticism of these hard working, well intentioned officers! Well done nonetheless!…🤟🏼
