In January 2011, Lacy Aaron Schmidt fatally murdered his friend and former girlfriend, Alana Calahan, at her residence.
Lacy Aaron Schmidt was found guilty of felony murder while committing an aggravated assault, malice murder, possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime, and theft by taking a handgun in February 2012.
According to the prosecution, Lacy Aaron Schmidt premeditated the shooting and had stolen the firearm from Alana’s father.
They claim he shot the Harlem Middle School girl in the back of the head as she posted images to Facebook and then carried her body to the woods behind the house to hide the crime.
Aaron Schmidt received a life sentence.
Schmidt filed an appeal with the Georgia Supreme Court.
According to the appeal, Judge Michael Annis had failed to inform the jury.
They may have found him guilty of the less serious crime of involuntary manslaughter.
In addition, Lacy Aaron Schmidt claimed that his defense attorney was incompetent and that the penalty he received was an example of “cruel and unusual punishment.”
But the highest court, as stated by the justice who presides over the case, P. Harris Hines, has rejected every one of his reasons.

The defence attorneys opening statement is the most unconvincing I’ve *ever* heard. In fact it was anger inducing. I don’t know what she thought it would prove asking Alana’s parents if he was helpful as far as dad went and the bus drivers that he was always polite. This does not prove anything. In fact helping the dad can be a form of sucking up to him. A manipulation tactic. As far as I’m concerned the fact that he was helpful and polite makes him look worse considering what he ended up doing not to mention he was also stealing off them. All his ‘politeness’ and helping out was just fake and not indicative of who he actually was/is.

Her job is to defend him. As much as it sucks at times, everyone is entitled to a defense. When someone is very obviously guilty, their job is to ensure that their constitutional rights are not violated, that they receive a fair trial and proper sentencing. Defense attorneys always get attacked in the comment sections of trials but people fail to realize that they’re a necessary part of our checks and balances system. You never know, you may need a defense attorney one day!

Seems more like he was envious of the Calahan's, not "loved" them, as his Def. Attny. described. He wanted what they had. And if he cant have it, then neither can they, & hes going to take it from them. The parents were right to not allow a male to be in their home alone with thier daughters, without parental supervision. He may have only been 14, but that old enough. He was a predator and monster.

Yeah, I've not heard of a white-ish/blackish descriptor before. Maybe his brain at that moment didn't want to lie so 'white' came out but then he had to lie so black came out. Nervousness added the 'ish' to it all. We need the behavior panel on that. 😆

I could be wrong but I think he is or was at the prison in my hometown here, Valdosta GA. Edit: I meant to add that if he is at that location I can tell you he hates it and is likely miserable as that prison is known for its bad conditions. We are near the FL line so it's hot and I've heard that the prison is like a sweat box. The river literally runs past it which I always thought would make it worse to know that clear cold water is flowing on a hot day and you can't even dip a toe in 😂

GDOC prisons are ruthless. There is no AC in the buildings. I'd imagine it would be like living in hell in the summer months. Plus the State runs their prisons like a military program. So they're treated like dogs all day. I love my state, but I'd never want to visit their prisons 😂
@tinawindham6958

It breaks my heart when I see dogs with no ac. They deserve a better life. However, it does my heart good to know that this guy has it rough. When prisoners are getting free Wi-Fi and college degrees it chaps my big fat rump👿

No one is born a killer. I firmly believe that. Aaron likely did have a deeply traumatic childhood. Hellish prisons are not the answer; I wish we could show these people love & truly rehabilitate them. But I suppose I might not feel this way if it was my daughter that was murdered.

Man, you were really speaking to me and making sense until the end. The lawyers that I work with are some of the kindest people I've ever met, and single-handedly make more of a positive impact on people's lives than any other profession I've witnessed. Sure, some lawyers, and even many, are driven by greed. But that's inevitable in any advanced profession. Most lawyers that I know truly want to make a difference. @@Kōkako-i1t

Dear Defense Attorney, You are reaching. But you're reaching a populous of deaf ears. Prosecuting attorney takes the reigns here. Your story time has too many holes. How could you defend such an animal to begin with? Desperate for $$$??? Sure isn't for fame. Choose another field.

Normally I might be interested in watching these types of videos. However, I have no clue as to why this particular court case is still interesting after more than 10 years and worth watching. I recommend you create a little into video that talks about the case, why it's worth watching etc. Add it to a playlist so people can follow the case more easily. Your playlists are not very helpful. The Ezra McCandless one doesn't even have a description in the first video.

No one's trying to convince you of anything. Please don't watch this! move on to something newer if you want. I suppose Ted Bundy acting as his own attorney during trial is not amusing either. BTK standing up and giving details on every murder he did in court.... Not cool because it's too old. Sounds like tik Tok is your crime platform. Move along newby.
