In January 2011, Lacy Aaron Schmidt fatally murdered his friend and former girlfriend, Alana Calahan, at her residence.
Lacy Aaron Schmidt was found guilty of felony murder while committing an aggravated assault, malice murder, possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime, and theft by taking a handgun in February 2012.
According to the prosecution, Lacy Aaron Schmidt premeditated the shooting and had stolen the firearm from Alana’s father.
They claim he shot the Harlem Middle School girl in the back of the head as she posted images to Facebook and then carried her body to the woods behind the house to hide the crime.
Aaron Schmidt received a life sentence.
Schmidt filed an appeal with the Georgia Supreme Court.
According to the appeal, Judge Michael Annis had failed to inform the jury.
They may have found him guilty of the less serious crime of involuntary manslaughter.
In addition, Lacy Aaron Schmidt claimed that his defense attorney was incompetent and that the penalty he received was an example of “cruel and unusual punishment.”
But the highest court, as stated by the justice who presides over the case, P. Harris Hines, has rejected every one of his reasons.

I’ve been watching court cases, interrogations , etc for many years. Rottweiler is probably one of the best well done coverages & investigative sites I have found. Looking forward to more excellent coverage. Thank You❣️🇺🇸

Happens in BC 🇨🇦 too. 911 dispatchers are incredibly overworked and under staffed. I wanted to be a dispatcher (still do) but I can not do graveyard shifts, which is a requirement. I wish more ppl would consider being a dispatcher.

I was thinking to myself: Geeze the defendant still looks 15 and why did it take so long for a murder in 2011 take so long to come to trial seeing as though it's 2023!" And then the penny dropped, duh!

They actually did that during the Depp v Heard trial for most witnesses. Experts would be asked to give the addresses for their business or practice too. I thought it was especially weird given the extremely high profile and publicity of the case.

I've heard it in many trials however, I don't agree with asking their present address. Maybe just the one they were at when this occurred (even if, at that point it happens to still be their present address)

That's a genetic fallacy argument. There's plenty of evil people who came from good homes where incest never occurred. The fact that incest is bad for the genetic pool biologically says nothing about who will or will not commit murder or other felonious crimes.

I wonder if the defense attorney didnt advise the defendant on how to sit in the courtroom. He couldnt look anymore guilty with his head hung like that while periodically peeking up to see whats happening. 🤦🏻‍♀️
@stephendeluca4479
@stephendeluca4479 7 месяцев назад
Of course the defense didn't claim that he didn't do the deed, just that he did it because the world messed up his mind. Given that, I suppose it doesn't really matter if he looks guilty.
@9babyblu
@9babyblu 7 месяцев назад
TBF, they aren't saying he's innocent. They're just fighting for the lesser charge. He needs to look guilty, 'sad', 'remorseful' etc which guilty is the only truthful descriptor.

The worst dispatcher was the 1 where the lady from CPS called when that dad shut her out of his house when she d/o his 2 boys and was supposed to be there for supervised visit. Crap, I can't remember his name right now but that was the most horrendous operator I've ever heard. In the end, that 'father' shot his 2 boys and blew the house up killing all 3 of them.

@@9babyblu i was wondering that also. Its on his socks, but not kn the pics as far as I saw. I don't think the story about her being on fb and he shot her at the computer, could be accurate and I've read some conflicting reports. What makes more sense from what I heard, is that he was kn the house already and she came in, possibly told him to leave and he shot her right by the back door and dragged her out. But I think I missed some details bc I was cleaning. But I was wondering when I saw the photos, why there wasn't blood.. so perhaps they didn't show those on the video

Seems like the questions so far are all leading. The attorneys could basically just tell us their story, line up all the witnesses, and have them nod if they agree. I guess some trials/judges/lawyers work very differently than others (ex. Ezra McCandless trial).

I watched a show about if it was right to give anyone under 18 LWP. He was in it. I knew that inmates could do, and give tattoos, but he’s covered. And they’re better than some people have that aren’t in prison for murdering a 14 year old girl. He’ll definitely kill again if he’s released.
@kinseyclay
@kinseyclay 4 месяца назад
Wtf do tattoos have to do with committing murder? I'm covered and have committed no crimes aside from traffic infractions and I'd never kill someone. My man is in prison and yes they do get tattooed in there, but many many many are not in there for murder or anything like that, they're there for drug charges and such. So you think because my non violent boyfriend, who has had struggles with drugs, is going to murder because he got tattoos in prison? Like wtf is this logic.
