Robb should have been mentioned more. He was the first king in 300 years, and it's because of him Jon was made king too. The only time we got to see his legacy was when they were asking for help and the lords said "Robb gave up his kingdom for some wife". Shame really.

Coming from someone who only watches the show, this is a great comment! It's interesting to see how the show and books can take the same events while interpreting them differently.

It's a shame the show didn't commit to the "Great Northern Conspiracy", or it's closest equivalent. It goes a long way to validate the best parts of Ned's Code of Honour, wraps back around to subvert Tywin's focus on his family's legacy, and even ties into one of Bronn's throwaway lines in one of the earlier seasons. In treating his people fairly, Ned is forever remembered and his children are protected. In life, Ned was a fool, but in death, he is the "most popular dead man in town" and his people are all the better for it. It all ties together so well, it's a shame the show didn't commit to it just so they could wrap the show up as soon as possible.

So glad to see a comment regarding Jon's character in the book vs the show. He feels so much more characterful in the book. He struggles with his choices but I think he comes across as more practical and resourceful in the books.

The book is that they follow stark honor codes that they still remain loyal to them. While the Bolton and frey are about to be backstabb by the people they backstabbed. One mountain clans men even said they will sooner have his men die for Ned's girl then die in the snow. The books north remembers is more meaningful and the show just completely cut that off like how they cut off Blackfyre or aegon storyline the golden company. Karstark girl weds a wildling to form a new house, Val who hinted to be Jon's new lover.

I think this is the key to respond to people who insist in making you choose between Sansa and Arya: it's okay to like them both.

Sarah Miller Daeny was also raped, but she gets stronger in every episode and every season. Sansa is too self absorbed for me to like her character. Arya has always been strong and has always know her the right and wrongs

Iwgoinghome I doubt she will die in Season 8 despite a number of people saying that she will be a casualty in the Great War. Even if Littlefinger is gone now and she won the great game, her role in the Great War and Westorosi politics isn't done; in fact, it might just be starting. IMO she is a perfect contender for claiming the Iron Throne as I doubt that Daenerys will live to become Queen of the Seven Kingdoms in the end and Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen or Tyrion Lannister will rule the Seven Kingdoms in her stead; her balance between compassion for others and cunning wisdom and ruthlessness are recipes of a great ruler as per Tywin's words: "A wise king knows what he knows and what he doesn't."

I would argue that Arya represent the dark element or misunderstanding of justice. While the people Arya killed are not good, Arya herself however kills people based on emotions. The notable example is when Arya suggested Sansa to executed Glover all cause he insults and disagrees with Jon and nearly threaten Sansa in season 7. That does not say Arya embodies Justice, but rather vengeance and spite. So really, she murders people who anger her.

Amen to that. People try to use that scene to big up Sansa as this clever person, but what she did was one moment use Rickon's imprisonment as a way to manipulate Jon into attacking Winterfell, and then when push comes to shove she basically tells him to leave Rickon to die.

lotta native american tribes would have two chiefs. a wartime chief and a peacetime chief. Very different approach required, different goals, different priorities. Sansa has demonstrated on the show that she knows what it takes to provide food and equipment to outfit her men. She has demonstrated an active role in addressing the concerns raised by those under her charge. We haven't seen enough of it, and we haven't seen her tested much as a leader. It did appear that we should be left with the impression that if nothing else she approached the responsibility with respect. She also did so with a certain amount of poise despite always being distrustful of Littlefinger... I always thought the tension between Sansa and Arya after her return was a misdirect for the audience. like, "we need to manufacture drama at winterfell because we have a couple big plot points to hit there later, but they might not have the right impact if we don't keep you guessing for that story line." I would have called the way it happened predictable, but I was thrown off by the exclusion of a scene where Sansa asks Bran for his insight. I thought getting to a place were Arya kills Littlefinger with the cat's paw was inevitable (once Bran gave it to her) I also wasn't sure if Arya was baiting Littlefinger. Arya knows when she is being watched right? right!? Master assassin can't tell their being tailed, the dragons are more realistic. Then the monologue where Arya tells Sansa about wearing other faces. They timed that creepy moment a little too well. and I started second guessing. Did she expect Baelish to be listening to that conversation...? By the trial when Sansa accused Baelish I felt validated and confused. Where was the Bran knows everything scene? I'm glad to hear that Sansa of the novels perspective was largely told through internal monologue. I get the impression Sophie is playing her very thoughtfully. I appreciate, with regards to her growth, that it doesn't seem Sansa would have been predisposed to contemplation, assessing, planning, but she was forced to in order to survive.

You realize that Sansa was going to kill Arya on the trial, but in a CUT SCENE, Brann tells Sansa about Littlefinger, so Sansa changes her mind? How is Sansa smart? After so many years next to LF she still believes him? And she would execute her own sister just because she got manipulated? Pls, go away with that feminist propaganda. Littlefinger rode to winterfell for his personal power grab for the north under the guise it was for sansa. she's a means to an end. not the end. he rescued the outnumbered coalition but Jon and his men get the credit. they initiated battle, Littlefinger just joined in. and no jon charging fireward was not stupid. the objective was Prince Rickon not Winterfell. he risked his own life not his army's. they charged under the command of Ser Davos. it was because of Sansa's lack of contribution that nearly killed Jon Snow and killed Rickon Stark.

Nothing to do with women who have power. I like the women of the show. Love Arya and Lyanna Mormont, loved Margary and Olena, Liked Shea and Asha. I can even appreciate Cersei for what she is. Dislike both Danny and Sansa. They get too much praise for too little effort on their part. Danny has everything done for her on the show, it's like stuff keeps falling into her lap without much work or special talent on her part which coupled with her being a favorite annoys me to no end. She is actually the reason why I didn't watch GoT till season 5. When the show was blowing up I was planning on getting around to watching it and then by accident at a friends house saw the scene of Danny trying to get the ships from the merchant in begging of season 2. I heard enough spoilers to know who she was and that she was a favorite. That scene convinced me that if SHE was the best it had to offer then I won't be bothering with the show at all. Was forced to watch it when I got all seasons as a gift and I am grateful because she turns out to be one of the worst characters on the show. There is a similar problem with Sansa, she gets a lot of credit for weird stuff. Like for surviving alone, though she herself didn't actually do anything to survive. Were she not a useful pawn she would've been dead ages ago, because she doesn't do anything to save herself really AND makes stupid mistakes, she just keeps her head down and hops for someone else to save her. On top of just being a selfish and stupid person, there is little to like about her.

I think everyone is so focused on "Who should be on that Iron Throne?" that they have a hard time with characters who don't want the Iron Throne. Sansa once wanted to be queen, sitting next to Joffrey, raising their little kids. Look where that fucking got her. She doesn't want the throne any more. She wants to keep her family together, and keep the North together, so they can survive winter. Or maybe it's because, let's be real, Daenerys has dragons, you don't fuck with that.

I think one of the haters' reasons for hating Sansa is because she does not have any magical creatures like a dragon or because she's not a warrior woman, Sansa does not fit that, Sansa is a political leader, but in a matter of suffering, she suffered a lot , had practically the entire family murdered, was beaten, humiliated and raped. But haters do not think she's strong just because she had to lower her head and be a pawn to survive in the snake's nest, they do not seem to understand that Sansa, Daenerys, and Arya are in different situations while Dany is thrown around the world with dragons, she needs to win followers for support to win, Arya needs to be clever and run away to survive, but Sansa was a prisoner in a court full of snakes, she had no one to trust, she had no way to get away, and moreover the only way she could find a way to survive was to have to bow her head and accept that she was just a pawn.

Ned's death was the only death that really only subverted the genre as it can easily be argued that his death comes by his hubris which is completely in keeping with the tropes of tragedy. And BTW saying he got himself killed is victim shaming. He didn't fall off the wall because he was drunk!!! He was murdered. By a man who made no apology and who at his execution said he hopes that he would have made the same decision despite knowing it meant his death. So clearly there was nothing that Jon could of done to circumvent what happened.

I mean, I think the problem is they were talking about Ramsay Bolton, one of the most unpredicatable characters in the show. I think what she was really trying to say was "I don't what the fuck Ramsay is going to do, but you are severely underestimating him." but the writers couldn't really figure out how to do that.

It was an obvious advice, but John did exactly what Ramsay wanted him to do. He should have listened to her instead of leading his men to their demise.

Silver Viper he didn't necessarily lead them to their demise. If you didn't notice, Jon throughout the season 6 actually wanted to die. He was constantly telling Melisandre not to resurrect him anymore, he says that he is tired of fighting. The only reason Jon agrees to fight was because Ramsay captures Rickon, that was his entire goal, he didn't give an F about Winterfell or what not, just his family. But, he had good enough strategy to fight Ramsay off, he puts Davos in command so that he would lead the army in case something happens to him and rides alone for Rickon, and accepts his death there after Rickon is dead. But the fact that his people had so much respect for him is what got them trapped, instead of going along with the plan, they decide to go and save Jon. It wasn't his decision.

Yep. Threatening to kill Sansa, because she refused to kill lords, that just once questioned the decision of the king, was way to much overreaction. I still think, Arya just hated on her because they didn´t like eachother as sisters. In the books, Arya actually misses Sansa (from time to time, she misses her brothers way more, but she isn´t hating on sansa anymore)

Not really though. She didn't tell Cersei because she still thought "kings/princes are noble and queens are gracious and lovely" and wanted to do what's right. She already knew Joffery was a shit with him attacking Arya and Mickah and that Cercei was a c*** for demanding Lady's death. She told not because she still believed that Joff and Cercei are noble and it was the honorable thing to do. She told because she wanted to stay to become a queen. She betrayed her family because she was selfish, also shows she doesn't learn sine in the previous situation with Joff she did the same mistake.

to be sure she admired her fairy tale idea of the lives kings queens and nobility. But not more than her family. I just never got that from her character. What I picked up on was that at the outset she might have been the most naive and trusting of the Stark kids. Cersei had probably pegged Sansa as the weakest link right away. Sansa was sheltered and did not have the context, foresight, or imagination to either resist, respond, or react to the situation in kings landing. She really was a scared little girl than with no clue how the game of thrones works. when she arrived there she wouldn't have known there was a game, or how the pieces move, or what the players are motivated by, she didn't know how to tell who was playing the game and who was abstaining from that headache. The events that led to her father's death and that damn note were the result a a vulnerable, scared, untraveled little girl learning first hand what this game is and why its played. No one in her family harbored the ambition or a means of preparing her to cope with being tossed into the middle of a power struggle, when we meet her she is the only little girl for whom dreams of being a princess or queen make her something of a blacksheep in the family, also the only one we meet for whom such dreams are attainable. She believes as long as she is courteous and lady-like everything will be okay. Her child like innocence could have been spliced in between shots of Ned and Drogo's deaths at the end of that first season and it would have matched the themes perfectly. Oh, and the childlike part of that is a nice way of saying she was selfish. kids tend to be selfish, lack foresight, don't quite grasp consequences. She gets that striving to be honorable thing from her dad, and as soon as her innocence is murdered along with him, she tries to let that be her motivation. she could easily become persona-non-grata around Kings Landing, doesn't have any allies near her, probably wouldnt survive a trip to Winterfell unescorted, and hasn't yet learned rule one of the game, the power struggle, the thing she dreamed of as a little girl. And her brief time married to the sadistic more selfish, more oblivious to the needs and desires of others, than herself. King shit butt (that was his name right?) has pretty much shit all over her dreams, showed her first hand that the world does not have her back, and doing as she is told will not make things alright, learns what it is like to be a prisoner with a prettier cell. She is alone save for those who would manipulate her to better their own position on the gameboard. She adapts. She begins to learn from the other players. Though very different paths, in some ways, her training was more treacherous than that which Arya received at the house of black and white. She was still not ready to truly demonstrate her agency as a player in this game until she could excise the cancer that is Littlefinger from anything to do with her family. He set in motion the events that killed her father, His attempt at having Bran killed, his unrequited love for Cate mutating into his predatory, manipulative and controlling, his entirely uncomfortable and more than a little lusty desire for Sansa... all motives for her to rid herself of him. But she has learned enough to consolidate allies before making a move for another player. Not her siblings but to safeguard the alliance between the North and the Vale. It is poetic justice that her siblings were integral to her ability to remove this infection. Aidan Gillen is damn amazing actor, in retrospect I might like Littlefinger the villian about as much as I like Walter White, the villian. Great dynamic motivated ambitious characters portrayed with enough care that one might need to remind themselves those moments of sympathy you feel for them, they don't deserve them... you only feel that cause you're both human. Anyway, Sansa is awesome she has easily shown as much character arch as anyone else on the show. I think I like her growth the most because it has been very gradual, with monumental obstacles along the way. Plus she didn't even know she was signing up to face any kind of adversity at all. I hope she becomes the first in Westoros to survive the power struggle into her later years and reconcile the game with the sense of Honor instilled into all the Stark Kids by Ned. In a longer view if this game is a battle of ideologies Than perhaps Ned is the real winner. His children, those he raised (not just Jon Theon too) have either redeemed themselves and their family or seem poised to do so. If want to get overly optimistic in my speculation, I'd guess that when the fight for the Iron Throne has moved to a slower paced gear, when westoros next sees lasting stability the noble houses will be able to play six degrees of Nedard stark with 3 degrees and still always find a connection. That was the worst stretch for an analogy after multiple hours spent writing youtube comments virtually no one will finish writing wild unfounded speculation about a fantasy series I have only watched on HBO, okay so there are like two or three random chapters I have read trying to find the battle of the viper and the mountain, I was not about to wait two weeks after all that hype. Rensune Honor is subjective. Arya couldn't march an Army or even manage one and Frey was on his guard If a Stark were to march an army he would flee and avoid them. There wasn't any other way to avenge her family other than assassinating they Freys. What is more honorable? To let those who killed your family go unpunished or avenge your family's honor by killing them.

IMHO she deserves more than just being the Queen in the North. She could technically become Queen of the Seven Kingdoms as she has the balance of cunning wisdom and ruthlessness and humanity and justice. Sansa of the House Stark, First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, and Protector of the Seven Kingdoms.

Sansa shouldn't be queen of anything. She's no better than Cersei now. She killed Littlefinger with no real evidence, is willing to kill her sister to keep her power, is willing to kick children out of their family's home when they didn't do anything wrong just to reward people (like the Lannisters tend to do) and basically thinks she's the smartest person in Winterfell just because she was taught a few things by greedy people. Before the battle of the bastards, she didn't bother to tell Jon that she might be able to get the knights of the vale or that she did get them. Beyond her family name, she doesn't inspire loyalty or belief and has no problem lying to people to get what she wants. She tried to control Jon by telling him what he should do then called him stupid for not doing it after telling him that he was a good king. When Joffrey didn't let anyone question him, it was because he was taught all his life that the king deserves everything he wants while Jon's was that he wasn't going to punish children for the crimes of their fathers. It seems she has become more Lannister than Stark now.

Red Queen no she wouldn't have. She defended Jon when everyone doubted him and gave him winterfell when it should have gone to her. It's the fans who just hate and mistrust Sansa that believed she would betray jon. She would have never killed Arya are you serious? I think people just try to find reasons to have on her character. We get it. She was a brat in season 1. Get over it

red stark the actors confirmed that Sansa was going to kill arya because she was afraid of her and would take what Sansa had but she first went to Bran to ask if would be the right choice to make until bran told her all about little finger and his lies. She is the most disloyal and dishonourable Stark. All she wants is to be Queen and she didnt give Jon anything. The northerners CHOSE jon to be their king not sansa. It had nothing to do with her “giving” jon anything.

Red Queen Jon is not even a real bloody stark. By right winterfell should have gone to her since bran and rickon were presumed dead. That is how the line of succession works. The northerners chose Jon as their king but Sansa is the rightful ruler of winterfell. When Jon left Sansa defended him when the northerners were talking shit about him. And honestly I don't blame Sansa for wanting to kill Arya because Arya was being awful and put a knife to her. Arya made the first threats. People like you want to blame Sansa for everything because she's not a manly badass like Arya. I truly don't understand how people can't see Sansa's pov from this last season
