@@WCephei77HD nah but I feel like Cersie knew it was over for her and prolly thought that Danny would prevail & thus rule Westeros and she knew that she would eventually be killed by her for killing her friend (I forgot her name).. Plus it was poetic how they (Cersie & Jaimie) both died, in each other's arms as we all know their motto, “anyone who isn't us doesn't matter” and they came into this world together and now they leave it together... In my opinion, *Cersei* is exactly like *Catherine de Medicis* , Queen Of France of 16th century. Catherine's children all died before her, she was one of the exceptions to become Queen because "la loi salique" forbade all women from sitting on the french throne. She was heavily involved in the Religious Wars of France, esp. in St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572 where she had the entire unarmed Protestant noblity slaughtered and attacked Marguerite de Navarre and Henry III during their wedding in the Palace of Louvre. Search it up, the similarities are tremendous.
@Tinkerbe11
@Tinkerbe11 7 лет назад
Lyanna Stark, I had the same idea. She also had 2 underaged sons on the throne and was regent to at least one of them, and her husband loved hunting and jousting tournaments, and died from an accident at the latter.
@lyannastark2410
@lyannastark2410 7 лет назад
Exactly! Not to mention that she was also the last of the House of Valois and the Medici dynasty and she tried *everything* in order to keep monarchy restored -just like Cersei. And, her husband Henry II, had a mistress and many bastard children...!
@apelletier1886
@apelletier1886 6 лет назад
Early in the series, both book and show, Cersei reminded me more of Isabella of France, AKA the She-wolf (ironically), wife of Edward II of England in the 14th C, as she was portrayed by Maurice Druon in The Accursed Kings, a book series George RR Martin has named many times among the top inspirations for ASOIAF. I felt she was like Isabella mostly because of her fierce hatred against her husband, her adultery, and her plotting to have him killed. But in latter seasons she's been giving me Catherine of Medici vibes as well, or at least Alexandre Dumas' version of Catherine: a fierce political intriguer and ruthless in defending her sons, none of whom survived her.
@lyannastark2410
@lyannastark2410 6 лет назад
+A Pelletier Very good points. Personally, except for Catherine de Medicis, Cersei reminds me strongly of Lucretia of the Borgias dynasty in 15th Century Italy: renowned for her rare beauty, sold by her father to a husband she never wanted, abused by many around her and eventually grew stronger and extremely manipulative both sexually and politically. Also the entire Borgias family reminds me of the Lannisters: the family who rised in power due to nepotism and gold but never actually became a true family...
@apelletier1886
@apelletier1886 6 лет назад
There's definitely a little bit of Cesare Borgia in Jamie Lannister, I'll give you that! Tywin might be a decent pope Alexander, but he is a much better fit as Edward Longshanks as their back stories are eerily similar: inept fathers thrust him into a political role at a young age, and both became bent not just on defeating enemies but eradicating them - the Castameres playing out the role of Simon de Montfort's barons and the Starks being the Scots. Both Tywin and Longshanks were also deeply in love with their spouses and mourned them considerably after they died. They both had pretty deep seated hatred towards one of their sons, albeit for totally different reasons.

I agree, I always saw Dany as more of a Cleopatra than a Henry, and has anyone else drawn connections between the Dothraki army and the Huns? Considering the way the Huns were able to terrorize the world and create a massive empire, this might bode well for Dany. But the Huns also failed spectacularly when they and their horses had to cross water on boats. (Pretty much every calvary ever fails when it has to cross water.) So considering the fate of the Huns as well as Cleopatra... Dany has just as much chance to end tragically as she does to succeed like in the video.

It recently hit me that Rhaegar Targaryen + Elia Martell + Lyanna Stark echo the historical personas of Henry VIII + his Catholic wife Catherine of Aragon (who couldn't bare him anymore children) + Anne Boleyn whom he fell in love with, annulled his marriage for and gave birth to Elisabeth I - the next legitimate ruler of England; just as Jon Snow / Targaryen is also the next legitimate heir to the throne of Westeros. Do you think GRR Martin could draw inspiration from that, or is my theory too far fetched?
@romeblanchard3419
@romeblanchard3419 7 лет назад
Catherine of Aragon is from Iberia (Spain) and Ellia Martell is from Dorne, Westeros' version of Iberian peninsula. Coincidence? or probably their love story is inspired by them.

Thomas Doran Actually, Katherine of Aragon had at least two sons. But both died very young (within a year of birth).
@juliaanderson1516

Furthermore, I think you're getting Henry Fitzroy and Edward VI slightly confused. Both were sons of Henry (although the first illegitimate) and both lived into their teens.
@maxgessa3504
@maxgessa3504 7 лет назад
Jon is still dead and might stay dead in the books, and annulments of marriage in the books don't exist, especially if you already have children. Plus why would Rhaegar and Lyanna get married without anyone knowing?
@juliaanderson1516
@juliaanderson1516 7 лет назад
I can't see Jon still being dead in the books. It doesn't make sense for the storyline, which seems to be about him and Dany finally running into each other and meeting (a song of ice and fire). As for why Lyanna and Rhaegar would get married and why Rhaegar would get an annulment, 1. Lyanna clearly didn't seem as introduced as Robert as he was in her, so perhaps she met Rhaegar and ran off with him. Rhaegar also shows significant interest in prophecies and it possible that he interpreted "the dragon must have three heads"/ Elia's barrenness as a sign he needed to remarry. Elia, for her part, might have been okay with an annulment considering that her children would still be in line for the throne (remember that Elia and her children were still alive and perfectly safe at the time of the annulment). Annulments haven't really been covered in ASOIAF but they sure were a thing in medieval Europe, which we all know the basis of the story comes from, soooo none of this comes across as completely implausible to me. And I mean they did say it happened...so it kinda did whether you believe it or not lol

I will give couple of examples: The defense of using fire against Stannis´ attack on King´s Landing look quite similar to the Battle of Red Cliff in Chinese history. For example, Godwin a powerful Earl who proved to be a big problem for Edward the Confessor and father to Harold Godwinson, reminds me greatly of Tywin Lannister. As they both strive to have their families on top of both power and wealth.

There is definitely a good drop of ancient history, particularly the century or so before and after 0 AD, in GofT as well. Dany and the Targaryens bare more than a passing resemblance to the Ptolemys of Ancient Egypt and Dany's story has some interesting parallels with Cleopatra, the last of the Ptolemyic Pharaohs. Though European (ie Westeros) in origin, they live in and eventually rule a kingdom in Africa (i.e Essos). Dany is the last of her dynasty as Cleopatra was the last of hers. Dany is descended from a heroic/almost semi-mythical ruler and Cleopatra was descended and could draw her family history back to Alexander the Great. She has a tyrannical brother (who also has an incestuous interest in his sister) who comes to an unfortunate end by getting the crown he wanted for so long, Cleopatra was originally co-ruler alongside her brother Ptolemy XIII, who was also her husband and ended up drowned in the Nile weighed down by his own finery and armour.Once Pharaoh in her own right, Cleopatra built a relationship with her subjects by doing things that no other Ptolemy had done, learn the local language, revive ancient traditions and making herself the embodiment of the traditional ancient gods. We have seen Dany do many similar things with her own subjects.Dany's burgeoning relationship with Jon parallels the relationship between Cleopatra and Marc Anthony. It starts off as a relationship of difference, Queen and Commander, with Cleopatra/Dany seeing themselves as the superior. But it quickly becomes a relationship of equals and of lovers. Between them they aim to conquer and rule Westeros, much as Cleopatra and Anthony planned to conquer and rule the Roman world. One of Cleopatra's keys to doing this was through her three children, who were the products of her relationships with Ceaser and Anthony. They had all the Roman and Egyptian blue-blood needed to become rulers in their own right and her greatest weapon in order too consolidate her power in Rome. Dany has three children too, who are her greatest weapons and could help her win her war, though of course they are children of the horned, scaly, giant, flying literal weapon variety, rather than figurative weapons.Of course if Dany and Jon are indeed Cleopatra and Marc Anthony it might not bode so well for their futures in the final season of GofT.

Big differences in Wars of the Roses and Game of Thrones: 1) despite the city of York being in north-central England, the Yorkist's main support was in southern England and Wales, while Lancasters' support was mainly in the north 2) Lancaster king Henry VI was a very religious, weak-minded and gentle monarch throughout his adult years, nothing like the Lannisters (although as a boy he was perhaps similar to Tommen) 3) there was no queen like Cersei among the Lancasters or Yorkists, in fact there were no queens ruling in England in the 15th century, although Henry IV's wife Margaret was a strong and determined woman 4) no dragons 5) no White Walkers 6) no Wildlings (although they did get raided by Scots from time to time, Scots were evidently more civilized than Wildlings) 7) no red witches to raise people from the dead and 8) no incest reported or even rumored among the Lancasters nor the Yorkists.

The ending of the Wars of the Roses has similarities with the ending of the Dance of Dragons. In fact I think the Dance of Dragons has more in common with the Wars of the Roses than the War of the Five Kings. For one thing the Dance and the Roses ended with both factions marrying each other. And the wars started because the previous king's heir was someone that skipped over several others in line for the throne. Not to mention both factions had control of the throne at various points in their respective wars.

I don't actually think George R.R Martin drew any inspiration from what I'm about to say, but have you ever heard of Stockholms Bloodbath? It's a big part of Swedish history and most people from Sweden know about it, and it's really similar to the red wedding. So the basic story goes that there was a great party in Stockhom celebrating the coronation of Kristian II (King of Denmark) as king of Sweden after he defeated Sten Sture at the ice battle of Åsunden. Everyone of Swedens most important people were invited (a few random people were there to, not invited, but there to help) and for a while, it was a good time... Until the doors closed... And the musicians started playing a familiar tune, The Rains of Castamere... Okay maybe that wasn't true but whatever... The danes beheaded around 60 people that night and (like I said) it has come to be known as Stockholms bloodbath. One of the victims of the Bloodbath was Erik Johansson, a knight and a member of Swedens privy council. One of Erik's children, Gustav Johansson (a.k.a Gustav Vasa) sought revenge for what Kristian the Tyrant (as he was now known as) did to his father. Idk the whole story but after raising army of random people he maneged to overthrow Kristian II and take the throne, thus ending the Kalmar Union. Btw Idk if I am, but if I am, sorry for my bad english. ...But I don't think I am ;P

That was good English. Probably better than most English Speakers because we will often drop words that are proper English but that we know we don't need them to convey our ideas. Or we will us slang or jargon that many might not understand. Skol!

I think Daenerys could finally break the wheel by melting the Iron Throne with Drogons fire. It would make sense considering it was created by Aegon using his dragon Balerion.

kbg12ila Unnecessary in my opinion. It's not like the Throne itself is special or cursed or something. So even if she destroys the chair, there will still have to be rulers and conflict over ruling. So it's uncalled for.

In terms of the supernatural and mythological elements, I would say King Arthur and other aspects of Welsh mythology and the Black Death for the threat of the White Walkers. GRRM has specifically named the Sidhe for the characteristics of the White Walkers.

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the first men and the andals? I am trying to brush up on my got history!
@IonTorch52
@IonTorch52 6 лет назад
The First Men came by land when Dorne still connected to Essos, they fought with bronze weapons against the children of the forest and made peace in the Pact. They lived during the Age of Heroes and the Long Night, began the first kingdoms and The Night's Watch. The Andals came by sea millennia later with steel weapons and the Faith of the Seven. They spread their own religion by conquering or integrating with the First Men in the South but failed to conquer the North. Carving their own kingdoms many Great Houses in the South are descended from the Andals (Houses Arryn, Tyrell, Martell) or bonded through marriage (Houses Lannister, Hoare).

Margaery may be inspired by Elizabeth of York or Catherine of Aragon. First Margaery is with Renly then with Joffrey; Just like Lizzie said in TWQ, "so whatever happens in this battle, I will be queen". Second is Margaery is bethroated to Joffrey then he died in their wedding day without consumnating their marriage, she then marys Tommen, Joffrey's younger brother; It's just like Catherine of Aragon marying Henry VIII after his older brother Arthur died.

And also if I may add that in my opinion, the White Walker are a representation of Gog and Magog(the eastern version like Islam’s to be more specific) because according to the story, they are also barred behind a wall (the only difference is that the location of that wall is unknown) until the end of time in which they will break the wall and be unleashed upon the world, and that they were placed there by a powerful, almost almighty king by the name of Dhul Qarnayn which has similarities with the Last Hero when you read up on both stories.
