REVIEW: Ganbare Goemon: Ooedo Daikaiten (The Grand Cycle of Oedo) is a 2001 Konami title for PlayStation that is all about recycling, a description that is more literal than you might expect. It's the last of the classic style Goemon side-scrolling platfomers to be made (so far), and is one hell of a fun action game for the PS1.
IGFTW Ep. 41 is a review of Ganbare Goemon: The Grand Cycle of Ooedo. Since this 32-bit entry in the Mystical Ninja series is all about recycling, I decided to recycle some things from past videos I've done about the Ganbare Goemon games...can you find them all? Do you care? Probably not, but no matter, I had a fun time making this one and I hope you enjoy it.
Update: since the publication of this video, a fan made English patch is now available for this game!

Gameplay was captured using the Elgato Game Capture HD from actual PS1 hardware upscaled via a Framemeister, and video/audio was edited using Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite, Version 12.
Other games featured in this video are Ganbare Goemon: Uchuu Kaizoku Akogingu and Kuru Nara Koi! Ayashige Ikka no Kuroi Kage (Konami, PS1), as well as Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shougun Magginesu & Yuki Hime Kyuushutsu Emaki (Konami, SFC).
All music used in this video was taken from the featured game in addition to one track from the previously credited Uchuu Kaizoku Akogingu and another at the very end from Ganbare Goemon: Sarawareta Ebisumaru on Game Boy.
If you like the video, leave a like, comment or share with a friend who loves Japanese games-I appreciate any and all support, and it helps Import Gaming FTW continue to grow!
Thank you for watching!

Here from the creator of Cartoon Network's Mao Mao who tweeted this. This channel seems right up my alley.

So glad you covered this one! I've been on the fence about importing this one since I couldn't find any decent reviews on RU-vid. Then your video showed up in my sub box and I finally got the review I was waiting for lol. just ordered a copy a few minutes ago!

Absolutely adore the Goemon games, and your quirky ftw series. It's so nutty, interesting and different to all other platformers out there. This series deserves a comeback, or even a compilation collection would be awesome as well. Cheers Konami.

I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't think you finding that game in the recycling bin, was a coincidence at all.

You have strategy guides, the ova Cassette, keychains, a tooth brush, plate cards, pencil tins. Wow that is an impressive Goemon collection. The $1000 figures. Nice. I kind of want a video on that shelf.

EDIT: Giveaway time is over! Unfortunately, there wasn't a winner this time...I thought it might be a little too hard. Thanks to those who tried, though--I'll do a giveaway again with easier conditions, for sure. Anyway, below are the recycled elements from previous episodes with time stamps:

I imported this game over a decade ago and had a blast playing it with a friend. It was like a Greatest Hits of Goemon, while also being a 2D style Goemon game. We didn't play it as thoroughly as Goemon's Great Adventure, mostly due to my lack of Japanese skills and absence of walkthroughs at the time.

I have a bit of a soft spot for PS1 2D platformers. There was that whole thing back then where magazines would slate almost any game that didn't have 3D in them somewhere so you got stuff like this mixing 2D and 3D. Ends up creating these games that look like almost nothing else before or since. Glad to see a new vid and to see that Gooeyman back on your channel.

This game really reminds me of Goemon's Great Adventure with it's 2.5D platforming and I noticed alot of the tracks came from that game as well.

God it's unbelievable how much effort went into these PS1 Goemon games, yet how little love they got. I guess that's why Konami ditched the series. Daikaiten drove me nuts actually, hard to say why considering I played Shinsedai Shumei to the end, but I had to put this one down. You're tempting me to try it again, but I need to finish 2 on the SFC first

Thank you so much for making these videos, Jimmy. I love the Goemon series so much, and it is a blast to be able to learn more about it. I know your focus is to cover games that didn't get an international release, but it would be great to hear more about the N64 games from you. Maybe you could talk about their development and reception with the japanese audience? Anyway, thanks again for sharing yout Goemon knowledge with us. Keeps me coming back to your channel all the time =)

Glad to see you back, Jimmy! For some reason this game has evaded my attention and I had forgotten it even existed. Great job showing it off!

There's a English translation of this title floating around for those who were forced to play it in Japanese but in truth it is still beatable without the translated patch
