Sure, It's dirty, it's crowded, it's polluted and people would just as soon step on your face as look at you! But come on, there's got to be some sparks of sweet humanity left in that burned out burg.
Ghostbusters, Ghostbuster 2, and Ghostbusters The Video Game is the definitive trilogy. The rest can be ignored. The Real Ghostbusters animated series is great also!
"Super easy, barely an inconvenience" loved the nod to Pitch Meeting. That line now goes through my mind everytime I see a character get out of a really bad situation with minimal trouble.
Oh my goodness, so funny! 😒 To quote Batman, talking to Green Lantern: “You wear the tights, that has to count for something.” I have yet to even watch Gb 2016, but i respect the effort they made. Check out “Ghostbusters Get Real,” it deals with dimensional rifts and crosses over ALL the Ghostbusters - The Real Ghostbusters, OG’s and the girls. Guaranteed they’re in a sequel to Frozen Empire - thereby folding them into the Prime Canon.
The lesbian friendly ghost broke the this movie. Having her talk ends up ruining Phoebe... Having Phoebe essentially kill herself for this ghost ruined the illusion that Phoebe's character is actually smart
Honestly, they should've focused on the OG characters and gradually transfer over to the new characters, but nobody knows how to do this, so we get a bunch of characters we don't care about and the original actors are terribly underutilized.
How is that bad? It’s part of growing up, it’s realistic. Don’t get me wrong, I agree that she should still be geeky but I can understand her being obnoxious
@dannyman9164 I am so. Sick. Of the "character Is insufferable brat because that's just how teens are lolololol" excuse in media. First of all, this is fiction and characters matter way more than explicit realism. Second, NO. Teenagers do not just inevitably become the worst humans to ever walk the planet at the flip of a switch after 13. Do they have emotional and hormonal changes and stress? Yes. But there's a way to represent this without just making the most infuriating awful and unlikable person known to mankind. Morgan in Disney's Disenchanted is a better example of a "teen angst" phase done well. She doesn't suddenly hate everyone and everything, she's just dealing with stress and growing up and occasionally lashes out. Instead, 99 times out of 100 we get the insufferable brat from the Barbie movie as our "teen angst uwu" in media. Just a bad person with 0 redeeming qualities and a get out of jail free card for the most insane and vile behavior because "teens amiright"
@@drawingdragon She’s behaving like Egon. Egon himself had issues. Remember how he tried to strangle Peck in front of the police in the first film even yelling at him “YOUR MOTHER!!!” Egon also tried to drill a hole in his head. What she told Peck in the new film was accurate. Also remember that Phoebe is already socially awkward and struggles with society. It makes sense that as she becomes a teenager and change in hormones would cause changes in her attitude. Especially since she’s been benched and pretty much tossed aside. She also redeemed herself in the end.
I'll admit that by the end of Ghostbusters Afterlife I was in tears. It was my childhood coming back to say hello. Frozen Empire felt more like a fan fiction writer won a contest.
1:05 "i had fun with it but i also never felt the need to watch it again after seeing the first time". THAT is the problem with most "entertainment" nowadays. I call it the one and done.
You mentioned the writing in Ghost Busters. I'm interested in one particular aspect: why has the quality of writing declined so much lately? It seems evident across various mediums-commercials, which have historically been cheesy, are particularly cringe-worthy now. As an avid reader, I've also noticed a decline in the quality of books. Has the world lost its imagination and storytelling abilities?
The West seems to have definitely lost the spark of creativity. I have been watching more Korean shows since Hollywood seems incapable of creating entertainment.
Omg I’ve been talking about this for a while..it’s then hiring all of the worst people imaginable and letting them do what they want and pushing certain political agendas without being checked before rolling it out to the public
The way I see it is you don't get work unless you've been to school. Colleges/universities push the woke agenda so hard now. They only write how they've been taught.
Yes because we’ve normalized the average reading level in the states to a 5th grade level. We’ve minimized and divided male and female individual spaces. You have to include everyone with every background under the sun. Women have been shamed to be feminine and men are applauded for being feminine. There is no creativity anymore and that’s by design. I stopped watching mainstream movies and shows years ago. It’s all starting to trickle overseas now too.
I was skeptical of this flick when Peck says on the trailer "They say they saved the world, but no eyewitnesses..." So those cheering crowds at the end of GB 1 and 2 must've had their eyes shut? Or how do you explain the Statue of Liberty left standing in the middle of the city?
In the first GB movie, Walter Peck was RIGHT THERE when Gozer (in the form of the marshmallow man) showed up at the Shandor high rise apartments and fought the ghostbusters. He was doused in like 300 gallons of melted marshmallow after the gate was shut and the marshmallow man exploded. So, I mean…. He’s lying about no witnesses. But since he’s a politician now (mayor of NY, no less) lying comes with the job.😆🤣
@@followerofchrist3125Peck absolutely handled the situation terribly. But to be fair, he was a member of the EPA, and the Ghostbusters had an unlicensed nuclear containment system in their basement. Talk about a health hazard lol
Old enough to separate your own soul from your body to get a little ecto-loving, but not old enough to operate the nuclear tech that you built yourself.
Is that really why you don’t like it? Gayness? That’s stupid. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t think they should be shoving it down our throats but that shouldn’t be your reason for disliking it.
@@dannyman9164 You know why? I actually don't give a flying f who is gay or who is not. But. I am SO damn sick of any political agenda in everything. That is why where I see any alphabet society having any moment in any film, I will not watch it. It can't be good. and I am sick of it. 15 years ago, I wouldn't care. Now I do. The last good movie I watched was Sound of Freedom.
I’m a huge GB fan. I enjoyed the movie overall despite the flaws. I’m baffled by all this gay talk. I saw an awkward teen that is growing up and being defiant. Maybe there was more to the phoebe melody story but I just saw phoebe trying to fit in somewhere and not her turning gay etc. maybe those scenes were cut out ?
............................I'm *_Not_*_ Going To The Movies _*_Anymore._* * (* It's too much like *_wading through the City Dump_* during the height of summer to find your lost wedding ring)
I blame Sony Pictures. They've suffered from corporate rot for like 15 years now. Haven't made a single decent film in that entire span besides the Spiderverses. Not a single one. The level and longevity of their ineptitude is truly unprecedented.
Hey Lauren. I noticed you said, "Super Easy. Barely an Inconvenience." You jumped even higher on the cool meter. Also, the relationship between Melody and Phoebe was cringe worthy.
Now i think of the Travel Channel and all their ghost hunting series... I guess ghost hunters should add to their list of questions to the supernatural, "Are you... gay?" LOL
There's a scene in the film where Phoebe and a friend are called in to a diner to bust a ghost that turns out to be the ghost girl just sitting at a booth. This scene kind of bothers me because I now wonder how many benign/ innocent ghosts have been "busted" just for being a nuisance rather than an actual danger. Maybe that was at the back of the writers' mind as well. Like somehow the Ghostbusters are helping gentrify New York for the living.
Yeah, it really didn't flop, from what I understand. I believe it led the box office with 45 million, which what was roughly expected. Definitely not a flop.
It could have been that but. With how Hollywood is they try to push things into everything they added just enough to satisfy the alphabet mafia but also not enough for normal people to just say this is gay I'm not watching they played in the middle with this movie playing both sides
when the Phoebe come to the dinner with her guy friend...ghost gay girl says.... what's up with the third wheel... and then they were about to kiss... what were you sleeping?
Just a reminder, the Mayor (Peck) in this movie was out to get the ghostbusters all the way back in 84 too. Plus even real new york seems to be out against anyone who would want to protect the citizens, so that part of the story is pretty realistic.
Why the hell did they make her gay it added nothing to the plot? The writers could’ve had the same subplot but with a boy ghost, I’ll tell you why because if they didn’t the alphabet crew would raise their keyboards and have a crying fit. I go to the movies to be entertained, not to have a lifestyle I don’t agree with forced down my throat.
@@vezner Romantic relationships are always included in action, adventure movies like this. This is nothing new. If she was interested in a guy, then you wouldn't be asking that question
I'm a 37/38 year old male who grew up with the franchise, and yeah, it sucks that this movie was disappointing. Afterlife had actual stakes and I was invested in the return of a big villain, although a rehash, it felt like something threatening was looming over the movie to be defeated. I felt emotionally connected to Phoebe's fight to stand up for the reputation of her grandfather, and I was intrigued by the plans Egon put into place. It was lacking in some areas, but a nice, humble, small town reboot to the franchise is just fine for the first one. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire had NO STAKES. Wasn't emotionally connected at all. The opening to this movie was amazing and awesome, that's about it. It's a good movie to throw on in the background if you want some silly jokes and some random "Ghostbustery feels," but not the kind of movie you get excited about. I'm still open to them having an awesome third movie and just forgetting about Frozen Empire. It didn't kill GB for me, it's just boring. If I can have one more epic GB movie, I will gladly skip ahead a few years and throw the next one on after watching GB II or maybe even Afterlife.
So the movie is unrealistic, even for a Ghostbusters movie. What people do and want doesn't make any sense. Also what about the ghosts in other cities? Do they also have Ghostbusters, or are they doomed? 🤷♂
I'm confused. If the Ghostbusters cause a disturbance everytime they Trap a Ghost, Why don't the Police intervene? In this film It's portrayed as something that happens so often that the Cops completely ignore It. So why do they get in trouble all of a sudden for basically just doing their jobs?
@@kwaichangcaine-xu4jha 15 year old child with an explosive device blasting random buildings in a city mayored by a man who has had it out for you before you were born tends to get the law involved. Not defending the movie, just explaining their reasoning. In all honesty it should not have happened, thus no need for Dickless in the movie.
@@kwaichangcaine-xu4jhit's more so the manner in how Phoebe went about taking out the ghost. Instead of isolating the ghost in a less populate area to minimize the risk of casualties, she chose to fire randomly causing mass damage and endangering lives. That's why she got into so much trouble. The OG Ghostbusters didn't do that. They contained the threats and treated them with caution even though sometimes the environment was destroyed
LOL, This is really funny if you have already seen the Red Letter Media review... W0KE?!!? Hahaha, they described it as inserting the obligatory representation, while still maintaining "Plausible Deniability".
@@bryan81584 Nah. Almost every "mainstream" channel pretends people are just off their rocker, and that Hollywood just has managed to trip and fall on every major studio release with bad writing and DEI casting -- it's all just a coincidence and we all need to just close our eyes and pretend it's one giant, coordinated mistake. That's how they approach the matter, which is why I stopped watching them.
@PowderedVoltage You do realize it's popular worldwide. Also, nostalgia rules Hollywood. So, unfortunately, you are going to miss out on tons more nostalgia.
You nailed review perfectly. It reminds me of Disney Star Wars The way no Han, Luke, Leia didn’t have a scene, here you have Slimmer and Peter, both in firehouse and no scene together, Peter and Walter Peck same thing..
I enjoy your reviews and your awesome dad! I did notice a bit of editing to zoom in and out a bit during your review. I get that it’s the style for videos today. And it’s a very mild form of it. But I prefer your original video style. Be aware I am 45. That’s 120 in RU-vid years. So feel free to continue using the style if it brings in an audience. I will continue watching either way. I just wanted to give my two cents. You have a good day!
8:24 When they introduced that and said human trials were still being worked out, I immediately thought of the slime. That's what they use to get rid of the ghost in possesd people.
Hey, just had a curiosity.I know you do a lot of movie critiques on bad movies, but I would love to hear.Maybe your list of your top ten favorite movies and why
The villain was a side note. He also didn't believe in killing anyone. It was a teen talkfest drama for most of the film and not in an even slightly good way. Watching it in the Japanese dub helped it actually, but I almost walked out.
My biggest issue with Ghostbusters Afterlife was Phoebe's character. There were a lot of things I could have overlooked, but they never gave her any sort of reality check, and i felt like they had the perfect opportunity; at the end when the family saw Egon's ghost, I thought they should have had him say "Sorry" before he left, and then let Phoebe have to realize that just because you're smart, just because you're right doesn't give you the right to treat your family and friends like shit. Seriously, from House, to Sherlock, to Sheldon, this damn trope needs to die.
@jacob_90s You know the late Harold Ramis gave his reasons back in 2008 why he wasn't interested in a third Ghostbusters movie in a rare interview. He said it might not be as good as the first and look at how Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skulls turned out. So it almost feels like he was foreshadowing these current Ghostbusters movies back then! Leave well enough alone! Albeit Afterlife had heart and was a nice tribute to Harold Ramis. Frozen Empire on the other hand was just a frozen movie LOL! And yet we would get another Indiana Jones movie after that LOL!🤠👻🚫🧊♟
@@rayharvey1330 i believe you senor gengar. Women like Amy pascal and Kathleen Kennedy are still on whitewoman🤍 ♀️ activism but Disney goes above and beyond in Dei
I really wanted to enjoy this film more than I did. At least Afterlife has some heart... This one was just BLOATED with memberberries and this wanna be gay relationship. And I totally agree that activities or plot arcs that were given to characters we couldn't care less about should've been given to perhaps the original GBs. I'll probably never watch this again.
@@Darkpooower it's ''OG Sailor Moon dub,'' gay. meaning if you're perceptive enough you'll know it's there, but it's hidden under a thin layer of ''close cousins.''
I never wanted to watch Afterlife because there was the forced 'girl that's the answer to everything' in it. I certainly won't be going to see this pile of shit now that I know it has this girl that's the answer to everything is now gay too! - forced gay shit....just put in there because - well, for no reason. Hollywood is shit... As for the gestion of how that Indian thing knew about the tech - he couldn't have but he had to know because the plot needed it to flaunt a gay relationship in the film - that's way more important that a cohesive storyline and writing don't you know?
You'd think the mayor would be more understanding considering what happened in the first 2 films...not to mention a little property damage is preferable to a vindictive spirit killing everyone and compeltely razing the city to the ground
It seems like the last few videos I've watched on Mediaholic, the camera hasn't been in focus. It's not a quality issue on my end - I'm on 1080p for video settings.
I actually thought the The Last of Us gay love story episode was well done and touching. But this one, with kids, just seems both creepy and weak sauce at the same time, and I'm not into it.
I thought the very concept was stupid because it completely changed what happened in the game. Then again, the same can be said about a lot of the show.
When the theme song finally played at the climax of the movie and the crowd was filling a lot of the empty spots of the screen is when the energy started picking up, that’s the energy the whole movie should have had,not wait until the very end. The first two movies had that amount of energy, that the ending of this film had, throughout the first two installments. The lack of energy and addition of wokism is what is destroying modern film making. People want to go along for an adventurous ride, not sit in a chair bored, and at worst, bored and cringed.
I really liked afterlife. Frozen Empire was a mess. Too many characters and only one had an arc. My ranking of Ghostbuster films are 1. Ghostbusters 2. Afterlife 3. Ghostbusters 2 4. Frozen Empire 5. The all female one
2:11 It's not just cliché, it's done before; Ghostbusters II was all about being sued for property damage and no longer being allowed to hunt ghosts. If that's a major plot part I'll skip this one.
Hey Lauren I’m curious to hear your opinion on the new Road House movie with Jake Gyllenhaal. I love the campy 80s movie but I found the new one lacking but with some fun moments in between.
Laura: You might think it would be hard to defeat a frozen god without a lifetime of fire mastery practice... Me: Say it! Say it! Ooooooo, she's gonna say it! Laura: It's super easy! Barely an inconvenience! Me: Yes!!!
In the first two Ghostbusters movies, we had three(3) white guys and one(1) black one, all of them very likable and looking like a true TEAM; now, they have been replaced by an unlikable super intelligent girl boss without the support of a real team AND apparently for some people, there is NO woke in this "Frozen Empire" movie ...YEAH RIGHT! 🤦♂😖
I'm so tired of the fallacy that just because you exist, it's your right to be represented in media. Hollywood already learned how to produce movies for the largest audience-- it was the 80's, 90's, and early 00's when movies were wildly successful. This smooth-brained drug-craving for a STILL LARGER AUDIENCE is having predictable outcomes: You cannot appeal to some people without alienating others.
You know what really surprises men about this? The idea that people are actually SURPRISED by the creeping 'woke' in this film. How can you be surprised? Hollywood (through u-tube channels like Grace Randolph) has been recently bemoaning the fact that people are rejecting their 'message-heavy' films/books, and saying out loud that the MISTAKE they made was being to OBVIOUS about the message. They then said they would go BACK (yep, they admit they were putting messages in to these IPS for decades in order to SHAPE society) to just HINTING at the message for a while. This brought us to this film. The gay part here is only kind of hinted at, some say you could choose to NOT see it. This film will serve as a warning about how they play to restart the CREEP and slow down the PUSH.
This, this, this! Somebody here gets it. In fact, you're pointing out something that actually highlights a ton of comments in this very video: a ton of people have chosen NOT to see the gay part. Even though the subtext is clear as day based on the description of the two characters' relationship. It reminds me of Nightmare on Elm Street 2, where you basically had to be completely oblivious to every single social cue and narrative framing trick not to see what the movie was hinting at. But you're right -- back in the day things were subtlely nudged onto the audience, then they went full bore for a while, and now they're back to slowly boiling the frog, and you have plenty of people syaing, "I don't mind... I don't see a problem... it's no big deal". I think that is actually worse yet, because it's cultivating a mindset to normalise Hollywood's intent with little to no pushback.
These movies are the reason i swipe right past anything that sounds woke. I was enjoying loudermilk... until that one woke episode. they always have to ruin it with nonsense.
