Back when footballers could come from the streets. Not now, never see an unlikely lad like gazza again. Best footballer produced by England. Closely followed by scholes.
Paul Gasgcoine is one of us, a working class Northerner who escaped the hardships with an incredible talent and character. I don't care what people might say, Paul Gasgcoine is the most naturally talented talisman England had ever had. Ive heard people argue jude Bellingham could rival Gazza. Those people clearly weren't alive when Gazza was at his peak. He tore the footballing world up and stamped his name on history. We love you Paul, and always will. You're one of us.
Feel exactly the same mate used to watch this video loads then I'd be straight down the common on my own and train so hard he totally inspired me. Summer 1990 was without doubt the best summer of my life and I was only 11!
the man loves the game with an out and out passion... every waking second...very difficult to control that type of passion... I think it's just as difficult to nail down, in words, Paul Gasgoine.. couple of words we can say ... football genius.
He looks great here. Only five years later when he signed for Rangers, he looked about 15 years older after all his operations and problems at Lazio. It's like the whole shape of his face changed.
Check out the documentary 'The Rangers Years'....incredible football, incredible goals, incredible stories all stemming from Gazza. Easily the best period of his career and clearly meant more to him personally than any other too.
Most gifted player I've seen in the flesh. He was at the height of his ability when this was being filmed and I remember a lot of these home games. My dad thought he was the best player he'd seen after George Best. The Man Utd deal would not have worked. Ferguson would try to control Gazza and he would suck the God-given creativity out of him, as he has done with Rooney. Venables understood Gazza's personality and his management of him for the most part worked.
you forget how thrilling a player he really was outside of all the usual gazza hype and histrionics. he scored some cracking goals prefer to watch this type of player than the technically excellent england players of 2020s but who are dull pedestrian in comparison to past masters.
Gazza....Football legend. Such a sad story and went through alot. Saw his friend get killed by a car aged 10, then of course missing a world cup final and getting injured in the fa cup final and not climbing the beloived steps at wembley to get the cup. All these plus a few other things fooked his head up and he tended to dwell on things, no wonder the drinking set in. Likeable fellow although sometimes abit ott, his heart was in the right place. Gazza!!! one of Englands finest midfielders.
He never missed a world cup final. England didn't play in the final. As for missing lifting the FA Cup he has got nobody but himself to blame for that. He injured himself while seemingly trying to take the life of another player.
really good, because I lived in the states throughout your career never got to see you play live, at the twilight of your playing days i finally got to see you play, leicester v boro, you scored but in that couple of seconds i saw the genius that this doc portrays, great movies ty for posting, i
Moving to Spurs instead of Man UTD was the biggest mistake of his life, not just his career. Fergie and the United set-up would ahve taken much better care of him as a person and a player. What a difference 1 decision can make.
Chris The Yido You fail to see the bigger picture and call me an idiot? He played well for spurs but his lifestyle in London and the way he was allowed to act as a young footballer ruined his career…and him as a person!
Chris The Yido Not a chance. he was a kid at Newcastle and he was allowed to continue to act like one at Spurs. Fergi looks after the young lads at United and shows them what it's like to be a professional…or you don't play. He would have taken good care of a young Gazza. It's hindsight now, but there's no doubt in my mind that he would have had a better career and he’s be a cleaner man now if he'd have chosen United over Spurs.
You had one such talent on your team - Berbatov - but F Fergie kept him on the bench. So no, it was better for Gascoigne that he went to play for Spurs and no other team, what should have happened was Spurs keeping him at the club and never selling him to Lazio or anyone else for the next 5-6 years.
I love this guy, one of the best players that has ever been, real down to earth, good laugh and passionate about the game. No heirs and graces about him, not like the prima donnas of today. Injuries hindered his career so much, the press ruined his private life.
macjakedom he doesn't regret leaving NUFC we were a joke when he did, he regrets not being called back when beardsley was under keegan and he ended up at rangers, shame he didn't he could've been legendary if he had
I wouldn't have wanted him back at NUFC at that stage of his career. By then he was a washed up alcoholic and druggie who had pissed away his wonderful talent and would have been a huge embarrassment to Newcastle United.
He had everything but that injury in the 91 cup final was devastating for his career. He was out of control that day and if he’d been rightly sent off after the first horrific tackle on Ian Woan then he wouldn’t have done his knee in the second challenge on Gary Charles.
until gazza played for england not many young kids went to see england play he got a lot of young kids going to games after world cup no player like him
Should of played for his teammates rather than balling his eyes out and we might have gone to the final and maybe of won it but decided to think about himself , I believe this has been one of his major problems through out life, no question tho about what a great talent he was . Should of gone man utd.
Media always try find the bad in Gazza ,never do they print the true Gazza The son who just wanted play football had Man Utd ready and waiting but chose Spurs because offered buy his parents a house ,car .Gazza used money to help Inc total strangers ,sent terminal ill kid & family to Disneyland & much more generosity NOT done for ego or attention but because he is Paul Gascoigne The son who made sure parents shared the wealth Friend Jimmy was looked after Sisters ,brother just know would've wanted for nothing .I was privileged to watch Gazza tear apart opponents during most enjoyable time at Rangers Glasgow is very similar to Newcastle (& Gerrard found out Liverpool also)home from home Only couple hours drive to Geordie land .Along Brian Laudrup with good friend McCoist his goal bonus not since late Davie Cooper did Ally bonuses rocket lol
Gazza was light years ahead of Scholes in terms of natural talent and skill but Scholes was infinitely more professional and as such made far more contribution for his club and country.
No disrespect to Tottenham but Gazza you should have chosen us(Manchester United)Ferguson would not allow the vultures to devour you,if you were with us.wasted at Tottenham with Venables.
this was a time when kids could dream of playing for their club, all thats gone now, the money men controlling the game have killed that, and i wont go anymore now, the pandemic for me didnt kill the game, its been the greedy men, and their agents, agents killed Clubland Entertainment, eventually they kill everything, all my mates about 20 of them wont go anymore, they mean it when they tell me some of them wont pay sky prices to watch their team.
