My 14 year old goes to bed every night listening to Carlin. That’s how good he is, his comedy crosses generations...probably because the problems never change and we never solve them
I discovered him 4 years ago at age 18, and I can say he was a major influence on me for a very long time. His segments about business honestly made me switch out of my Business program, and I think it was one of the greatest decisions of my life.
If your kid listens to Carlin at 14, you hit the lotto, that kid has got a bright future. Just don’t go around showing everyone pictures of your kid. No one cares!😜 (Carlin Stand up material)
I like this material a little more than the usual stuff he was doing in later years, because he toned down the anger and negativity his later material tended to have
@@deller5924 With all due respect, I think he shares that title alongside Tom Lehrer(albeit in a different style), but otherwise both of them are the best. The 2 of them are unparalleled when it comes to satirizing sociocultural-political issues like this, and the most fearless too!
There is no accounting for taste on such things, but I completely agree with you. He is the GoaT. He had an uncanny ability to be fucking silly as hell and simultaneously be making all sorts of serious points in the same show, and often in the same joke. There are other great stand up specials, but as a whole, no one can match Carlin's collection/material/career. He was hilarious, creative, and flat out intelligent. He has so much great stuff, but my all time favorite "bit" was his stuff about the airlines, particularly "The safety lecture."
There's something so endearing about this set. I know Carlin said not to look for a theme but I found a couple of them: Great writing, a unique comedic voice and a great joy in pointing out and having fun with the absurdity in the world. I love that smile he had when he asked "Suppose a guy is really, really stupid and then becomes senile... How do you know? "Even within the confines of a spot on late night network TV he was still very much himself and still knocked it out of the park. George Carlin is still one of my all time favorites and I count myself as lucky to have grown up in his later years because he made me laugh like no one I'd ever seen before and not only made me think but improved the quality of my thinking.
"Some see the glass as half empty. Some people see the glass as full. I just see the glass as too big." That has got to be the sassiest way to put it. I love it.
the glass is too big, because it's not a shot glass. that glass is either full or empty, there's no half empty half full. which means, you go at life Full On, none of this half in half out mewling and puking.
I once walked into a book store, they had a "giant book sale" sign out front. So I walked in looking confused, and asked " where are the giant books?". The look was priceless...
oh really??? ROBIN WILLIAMS, DAVE CHAPELLE (spelling?), RICHARD PRYOR, MITCH HEDBERG, TOM DREESEN, CHARLY CHAPLAN, CAROL BURNETT, too many others as good or better. BUT OF COURSE HUMOR IS SUBJECTIVE isn't it?
I miss him dearly. Since I was a teenager he put out a new stand-up special on HBO every year for 30 years give or take. I always caught the premier of his new special. He is my hero.
Living in the UK I only came across this man after his death, we never got him on British TV. I’ve never really enjoyed American humour until I saw this genius. Love him.
@@monkadelic13 I think you mean low-hanging fruit that low-brow imbeciles call "comedy". Carlin was much more interested in (1) talking about the shit nobody else wanted or dared to, and (2) bringing a little cynicism to a little bit of everything. If anything, George would probably be extremely bored and uninterested in the large majority of what is happening, because it wouldn't surprise or amuse him, and it certainly wouldn't be worth talking about for very long.
It's not fair that in 1948 two people were about to fuck but she decided she was not ready, while the result of that specific fuck would have been a baby that turned out to be by far the greatest stand-up comedian of all time.
Jay Leno, the most untalented overachiever Hollywood has ever seen, and that's really saying a lot considering it's a town that for generations has been full of Weinstein's looking to give hot young girls their "big break."
Tom DeLaCruz yes sir! That's why Don Rickles always has the unfunny chin's balls every time he's a guest. He hates leno, but treats Dave differently. RIP to two legends, Carlin & Rickles.
I could feel him dying on that stage, he was really behaving himself and didn't like it. It's hard pretending to be something you're not. RIP Irish brother. It's sad that you're gone.
@@speggeri90 Yes, but he was of Irish descent. He explained once that all four of his grandparents were born in Ireland. Carlin is an Irish name, in fact.
What a genius. A once in a lifetime kind of guy. We miss you George. Thanks for the memories. Thru your tirades, your angst, your dialogue and your observations, you taught us so so much. Because you always, absolutely always, spoke the truth.
Carlin was a great communicator ; as a French with poor hearing and bad english , i can understand everything he says and appreciate his immense talent.
George Carlin - the best example of what the rare combination of uninhibited honesty and sheer brilliance could bring to society. We would laugh because what he said was so over the top in reality it was comical. In this world that is so full of lies and false promises there was George, telling it like it is and not holding anything back - and people like me loved him for it. There will never be another quite like him, and I am glad of that because it would dilute the talent of this exceptional individual - and that wouldn't be fair to George Carlin.
I didn't appreciate this man while he was alive. Thought he was just an old geezer comedian. Now, I wanna cry when I watch his material because that was it - there was only one Carlin.
Man, the range of comedy this legend George Carlin had. He goes from 1-2 hour stand up routines on cable TV where he displays his drawn out, thought provoking, and ingenious philosophies in his performances, to a masterful display of one liners on network TV.
His best line ever is "I Don't believe anything the government tells us"!! I don't believe in the flag, its just a symbol for symbol minded!! Love George, a philosopher and patriot.
I started to really listen to George Carlin in the summer of 1982(got a copy of Class Clown cassette). and really haven't stopped listening to George since.
RIP George... His Trusims and observations were Amazing. A Comedic Legend for Sure. There are a bunch over the years that could "Shine his shoes", but non IMHO that could wear his Shoes. He came a long way from The Hippy Dippy Weatherman on Ed Sullivan in the late 60s ....
I enjoyed this. It was like listening to your grandpa crack jokes while you're eating lunch at the table, then you look up and realize your grandpa is freakin' George Carlin.
Love the man. Still relevant to this day and for generations to come. Listening in 2022. He would have had so much amazing material - daily - for his shows these days.
Saw George at Club Bene, Sayreville NJ, back in the day. As he walked on stage the crowd immediately responded with applause, whistling and cheering. George grabbed the microphone and yelled back "F%#^ Y*u!!!!!! The crowd went nutz!!!!! A great start to an action packed show!
I seen Carlin live 4 times. The last time, my son and I was in the back of the theatre and two guys in the 3rd row were drunk, caused some trouble, got tossed out and went out in the lobby and hit the fire alarm. Carlin's mic went off so to keep us from sitting there waiting, he talked very loud and told some jokes to keep us entertained. My son and I walked up and with the permission of the other people sitting in that row, we took the two open seats. Luckily there was a fireman in the audience that had a device of some sort to fix the problem and my son and I got to see all of Carlin's funny facial expressions for the rest of the show. It was the last time we seen him live but it was awesome!!! Carlin was a great entertainer. I really miss him. RIP George!
Every since I heard George I can't seem to watch many other comics. He tells it just as it is about everything. He doesn't care if it hurts your sincerity or care what you think. Very rare person. I listen to him all the time and still laugh. He didn't want us to mourn his death, and that is why he is the best ever.
Good Lord he left EXACTLY at the time idiocy became the trend, 2008, oh the materials he would have harvested up til today! I believe with how cognitive, articulate and witty he is, even in his 90s he'd still be grilling like mad.
When given a sewing kit at a hotel I not only sew a button to a lampshade, but I also draw a head and 8 little legs to make them think it's a deadly spider 😂😂😂
