I was 19 when this stand up special originally aired. I was all in on politics too, and was for 15-16 years. But now, in my mid-40s, Carlin’s monologue perfectly encapsulates my level of political apathy. Rabid party fandom meant to divide us and keep us at each other’s throats for scraps while the elites laugh all the way to the bank.
The sad thing is that the vast majority of people world wide still believe in this system which has proven over and over again how rotten it is. Although I think people in the second and third world the number of people that see the system for what is; is lager than folks from the first world.
My Father would tell me that all of the time when I watched “too much” TV...so my mouth dropped when I heard this. I turned and looked at him and he started laughing.
@@GT-mn3bxvoting may matter when it comes at the state or local level such as governor or mayor but for the presidency,house of rep or Senate. Not so much
This is so relevant after the debate. I see Americans complaining everywhere about how terrible the candidates are and I'm like mate, you brought this over yourself. You voted for these people.
When Joe Biden said things about unity, what it means is unity in the Democratic party not unity in the country of the red, white & blue! & I realize that politicians come from families too!
He's right. The problem isn't the politicians, it's the voters who elect these politicians in the first place. We need to mature as a society, collectively speaking, before things can get better.

Not that different from his Era. Trump/Biden aren't so different than their predecessor. Bush was laughed about (while most of America agreed with him), Clinton had his overinflated scandal, Obama wasn't as popular as depicted in the media (hence why Trump won)... Current times aren't that different, things are just more upfront.

I’m nearing that age where things are getting crystal clear. And these things I’m seeing are matching up perfectly with everything this man said 25 years ago.
Above all, George Carlin is exceptionally intelligent, honest and brave enough to say what is so obvious to all of us. The problem with us is that don't act is that most of us have some agenda behind not saying anything. George didn't have any and I thank him for that. RIP, George, we miss you and need someone like you more than ever.

The fact is my lovely, the reason that garbage runs this country is because they made "public service" paid positions. True public service requires a sense of altruism. Carlin understood what H.L. Mencken observed a long time ago: "There’s really no point to voting. If it made any difference, it would probably be illegal." But he's right, it's not the politicians, it's the people who believe the politicians BS and vote for them. Really there's no substantive difference between Bush, Obama, Trump, or Biden.
