My favorite was the bit about a bunch of bad guys, looking for a good time. "Hi, hope we're not intruding. Got any beer? ... Oh good. Well, I got about 1,400 really thirsty guys, here. How about women; got any women? Oh, just your wife, huh? ..... Well, I think we can make that work. Now boys, there's a lady here, so I want you to mind your manners... And wait your turn!"
That's how comedians or performers in general ought to operate! Today we're plagued by a culture where pop-stars need to buy the help of a songwriter so they can express their own feelings- what a rip-off :D
That's absurd. Life doesn't end if the lights go out. Is it such a stretch to suggest that adapting would be out of the question? Is this what the human race has been reduced to? Are we so dead set on relying on big brother that relying on one's self for happiness is beyond all reason????
What a sad comment on the condition of human evolution when it's thought that life itself would have no meaning if the unimaginable happened and there were no longer a few buttons to push to make things all better....
"So let's get back to suicide, which now seems like a reasonable alternative." One of a thousand of his great, for lack of a better definition, "punchlines." Genius.
I think you missed Carlin's point. He was not encouraging suicide, quite the contrary, he was pointing out the absurdity of our reliance on electronic devices. Einstien believed strongly that all these devices were relieving us of our humanity. Hawking believed strongly that the devices we rely on would not take us to the outer reaches of the solar system because we'd all succomb to the byproducts of technological advancements long before we acheived the knowledge to do so.......
@@jeffreygranger6913 The point made by 2 of the greatest minds in recorded history was that there is an inevitable finish line waiting for a technology based society, and it ain't gonna be pretty.....
@@bruceyoung8036 Well, time will tell. Having a great mind doesn't make you a fortune teller. Look at the model for the spread of covid19. Wrong all the way, thank God.
It's been that long already? I'm still in mourning. He would say so much good things about the situation these days... cause it's a bit worse, to say the least.
Too right George didn't pull any punches. So many of us still hold some hope for this planet but George makes a good point, maybe it's too late. Many are awakening but maybe too few too late.
Won't happen because maybe you forgot this since you are an atheist, he said the USA government is a corrupt dictatorship and we have no freedoms and the media is controlled by them.
There will never be another like him: A comedian yes, a social commentator, absolutely. Such an intelligent, open minded man. His material will hold up. He’s timeless
Olli Koskiniemi Trump hasn’t started a war YET. Trump is so stupid he could start a war by accident. Look at all the Kurds that got slaughtered because of his incompetence. I don’t recall the war that Obama started. I do recall that Obama got left with a hot mess. That UAE - ISRAEL deal was such hype. It was low hanging fruit. Speak to me when Trump negotiates a deal between Israel and the Palestinians. Trump is a con man. It’s a shame that you don’t see it. Kim Jong - Un suckered Trump and his supporters.
Olli Koskiniemi There was no strategic value to the United States in what Trump did to the Kurds. Why should anybody want to be allies with the United States after seeing what happened to the Kurds ? Trump is in over his head. He “accidentally” gave highly classified information to the Russians in the Oval Office. He is a reality show / con artist / bankrupt businessman clown who has no business being President of the United States. What good has Trump done that WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED ANYWAY ? Anybody who became president in 2016 could have taken advantage of the momentum of the Obama economy. Unemployment has been dropping since 2010 because of the Obama stimulus. Wages have been going up since the middle of 2014. There were more jobs created in the last three years of Obama than the first three years of Trump. Home prices went up around 20% under Obama. Household debt dropped sharply under Obama. In 2015 , and then again in 2016 , there were more new vehicles sold than any year in history. Trump came in at the tail end of an economy created by Obama’s stimulus. Maybe people wouldn’t call President Covfefe stupid if he didn’t invent a place called Thighland ? Intelligence does make it less likely that he will start a war ACCIDENTALLY.
Yup. Soros, Gates, Wall Street and the Billionaire class are destroying the World economy over a virus with a 0.0007% mortality rate in the general population. What kills me is how stupid people have become. Most politicians are pathological liers, supported by a bought media that makes Goebbels look like an amateur, but people are soaking it all up and doing almost everything asked of them even when most of the conflicting information and laws make no sense.
mark g What kills me is how many ignorant , narcissistic people there are out here. You don’t know the percentage of people who have died of COVID. A lot of people have died without being tested. There have been inaccurate tests. Death isn’t the only thing to be concerned with. People can get COVID , never have a fever , and never be hospitalized. They can get quarantined for two weeks and still feel like crap. You can have shortness of breath , fatigue , and various weird symptoms months later. Some survivors have to live with scarred lungs. Do more homework.
I was without electricity for a couple of months during Hurricane Maria. We had generators, cars and fuel though but damn, things were getting to the point of barbarism.
The 'good guys with guns' idea that the gun nuts love would be a great idea and the only alternative in the dystopian world George just described in the video.
@@jay2924 They don't elaborate if you simply ask them to. You'll either have to go to their house and beat it out of them or call them a sophomoric slur and THEN they'll do it. One's much more simple than the other. I'll let you be the judge on which one ;)
Yes, she would be quite sore after entertaining that many sociopaths. Especially after the ones with the sick fetishes got through with her. She'd be covered in acid, cigarette, and hot wire burns, cuts, and poop and pee. Not to mention the other male bodily fluid... 😒😒😒😨😨😨😭😭😭
Late George Carlin shows were most like a quiet, sharp, right to the point speech than his early presentations... due to his age he lost some agility, but he knew that more acid and deep wise ideas would keep an audience aware and delightfully entertained.
Agreed, while they are still funny I do think his earlier stuff lack the punch and hilarity much of his later works had. Carlin was like a fine wine, got better with age.
I think 90s is peek Carlin. He was very insightful and wise, but he still had more energy and was able to alter his voice more for some bits and move around more which added to it. It was the best combination of all the elements he had perfected over the years. The end era shown here is also great. A little less energy, he can't run the joke for as long, can't do voices as much anymore, so he compensates perfectly with shorter, more to the point ways of speaking, but still keeping his trademark style.
Obsessor23 I’m just imagining prison being like an Eagle Scout retreat for the professional criminals. Just a place to hone your skills and get others to join your posse when the power fails.
two years? without electricity we would be down to cannibalism in 2 weeks. Also ... prison inmates getting out would be the least of your problems. Your neighbours would be.
God DAMN James is kicking your ass. Thanks for calling me illiterate, by the way. I don't know why you're wasting your time trying to win an argument against a faceless person online, but I hope you're having fun.
@Tony Porter oh you got the survival stuff huh? Well it just so happens me and 1400 of the boys will come by to give you a hand surviving during dark times. Say, you wouldnt happen to have any beer or women would ya?
This is basically how things went in Syria when they had a famine that triggered a civil war, in Venezuela when their one-commodity economy collapsed with the price of oil. He's absolutely right, civilization is like a bicycle - if it's not moving forward it's falling right over into a ditch and people are getting hurt. Everywhere it has happened, before it happened the people there thought "that couldn't happen HERE."
Jessica Lee ....it can, it has, it will again, and those ppl in power know it. they are the very same families of bankers & industrialists that have owned & run everything for hundreds of years. they’ve had lots of practice building up & tearing down everything & building it up again, and managing the masses of stupid ppl is very easy.
@@cpi3267 Do you know that half of what happen in Venezuela is US doing, right? US put a shit ton of sanctions on Venezuela and their economy collapsed. France has WAY more and WAY bigger social welfare programs than Venezuela and it's doing just fine.
You do know that the usa and france had a hand in syria. Also we didn't have our problems start as civil war , it was demonstrations against the tyrant family.
Ken Able most people society considers to be genius, are exactly like that. On the other hand, our lowly tradesmen seem to be some of the wisest and sharpest people I’ve come across. Granted, there are truly lowly tradesmen and plenty of em. Gotta have someone to hold the light and hand up the tools ya know?
Clayton Atkinson I dunno. I was a tradesman my whole life but I quit bc the demand for my work disappeared. Ya I love convicts and tradesmen but the truly wise ones are rare. I think a combo of both sides is the best. Seems like no one on any “side” really has it all. ✊🏽
Mazaroth Its actually very fitting. Obama blew up more stuff, under Executive Order; than both Bush boys combined. It's only appropriate that he received an award from the inventor of dynamite, lol.
Now that I've aged a bit since the first time I heard this stand up set, I have an entirely new appreciation for how great it is. It is a cathartic release of cynicism that many of us feel about the world.
Great response. The internet is depriving an entire generation of the ability to learn for themselves. And this from the year class that embraces a sense of entitlement they never earned.....
@Gruggadubdub Don´t be idiotic, did you know someone that freaked out without Wi-fi? in secondary school i didn't know anyone that freaked out because there wasn't wi-fi, boys spent time playing sports, girls were just talking to each other And do you know the definition of Power Outage?
@Twiddly Stosh yep. I shit you not, here in Australia a couple of years ago we had huge storms that wiped out all of south Australia, those of us with battery powered radios and generators were fine, I actually recall the news presenter on the radio telling idiotic people NOT to phone the police because the internet had gone down! Fkng pathetic
The craziest thing eliminating electricity would do is millions of jobs overnight would be erased. All the work from home jobs, IT jobs, etc. So many jobs today wouldn’t exist without electricity. Then you’d have millions of outraged people who now have no income and are desperate.
Not very long before he passed he did an interview where a pretty early part from one of his tapes, brain droppings maybe, were discussed. Where he says, paraphrased of course, Im not hear to change your mind and make you think. If your laughing along your the problem, Im just pointing out to those in power how duped these people who claim to be enlightened enough to like my work are yet dont do anything about all the ways I point out things have gone horribly wrong. Just to reminded those I power I see what their doing, Im thinking, maybe someday someone else will.
When he says “..and Out would Come out All of Our Old Friends”, i feel like he’s speaking almost esoterically. Like all the people you’ve met before in another place are all locked up in this realm
Fuck you and your cringy, overused joke. HoLd mY cOrONaVirUs hurr durr. There's a bit that Carlin did talking about how no one is original with anything these days. You should check it out.
tobysoter Let me paint you a picture of what would happen if electricity was going out worldwide. WITHIN SECONDS, tens of thousands of people die on the roads as the traffic lights go out. Stock market traders go insane as they try to call their superiors without luck. WITHIN MINUTES we are experiencing the worst economic crisis in history. Everybody is falling behind schedule as no goods get delivered or produced. It doesn't really matter though, because: WITHIN DAYS hundreds of thousands of people die in hospitals as emergency generators are running out. Millions of people die as nuclear reactors all over the world enter criticality and blow up. Even if power were to go on right now, we'd need centuries to recover. Mass hysteria breaks out; people are gathering their families and leaving cities, only to find out that it doesn't get any better. Within weeks, food supplies would be running low, and within months, half of earth's population would be dead. ...and you're worrying about a couple of shoplifters and weed smokers. Without electricity, everyone turns into a freaking savage, so really, prisoners running loose would be the least of your problems. As someone else in the comments pointed out already, this video seemed a bit personal, and all in all, just... weird.
tobysoter It's a problem, to be sure, but not the biggest problem one would face if all electricity was gone for a considerable period of time. I'd give an escaped con my last Dr Pepper if they managed to beat dehydration and exposure to my mortal coil.
+Schindlabua Traffic lights? People would notice, turn their own lights, slow down. Nuclear reactors can be shut todwn mechanically so no problem there either. mas hysteria would only happen with bad leadership
What's to stop someone from stealing a boat and coming to another country then? The beginning phase of this emergency scenario as long there is enough fuel and the will to run expect refugees then. Later whose to say some folks wouldn't take sailboats or the few sailing ships that remain or build their own.
@@ed_vilon668 Here's a suggestion. Why don't we take care of our own needs? OMG!!!! Not that!!!!!! Go down to the lake, gather some water and boil it it for 1 minute. Done. Put some seeds in the ground, nurture them and reap the harvest. This is not that difficult people.
There is a movie from the mid '90s called "The Trigger Effect", and it illustrates just about how this would go down.....in just a couple of days when the local power, phone and internet stop working suddenly for a couple days before being repaired. The cause is not revealed, but you can see the logical progression of events and people's behaviors, and it seems pretty likely and realistic. Yes, our entire civilization is entirely dependent on electricity these days. An attack on, or failure of, the "grid" would have catastrophic results. The vast majority of people would be helpless and basically 'screwed' in short order. Only a handful of people, currently denigrated as cranks, would be prepared and skilled enough to keep things pretty reasonable FOR THEMSELVES. And anyone without means to protect themselves would be living pretty scared. It is not a possibility that we like to consider.
These guys he described used, before electricity and in the middle ages, to be called "Priests", "Inquisitors", "Witch Hunters", "Exorcists", "Pastors", "Settlers" and "Conquistadores".
not just electricians, but plumbers too, if your septic line busts, they will wade through your waste to get to the line and fix it, its nasty work, nurses too, my mom was a nurse for almost 30 years, they put up with a ton of abuse from patients, doctors that they have to keep from killing the patients and then get yelled at by those same docs that almost gave a celestial discharge, they carry your bedpans, change your adult diapers, if needed they will sit there and feed you like a baby if you are unable to do it yourself, bathe you, and bust their asses missing meals to keep you from dying, just to be yelled at for not doing some trivial thing when they was keeping you from circling the drain or bleeding out, only to hear "fuck you!" when said nurses tell the patients they are ok and was saved from death, at the end of their shift they are starving and exhausted, and have to go back in in less than half a day.
I’m an electrician and I made enough to retire at age 45. Houses are paid for. Vehicles are paid for. Travel trailer is paid for. Put my son through college so he has no student loans to pay off. I vacation in Europe 2-3 times a year. To top it all off I receive roughly $80,000 per year in retirement income plus my healthcare is covered 100% with no copay’s or out of pocket expenses. I would say I’m doing ok lol Thanks though for the sentiment lol
He didn't mention that if we didn't have electricity we couldn't run the cooling pools at nuclear power plants which would cause the spent fuel to melt down. Nor would they be able to cool the reactors. And they would melt as well. That would be very bad.
About the only options at that point for electrical power would be solar panels charging batteries, and wind/water turbines operating dynamos. So, in the event of a major power loss, a place like the Hoover Dam might feel a little bit of the sting, but they'd be relatively unaffected.
You really think all these governments really need people's bills with all the trillions of dollar they making? Don't you think it's their responsibility and for their own good to provide better technology water gas shelter food transportation services etc for free and all instead of spending it with their criminal buddies and craps? But yea that's the point so whatever
