The Panzerhaubitze 2000 or PzH 2000 is one of the most advanced heavy artillery pieces in the 155 mm class.
The Ukrainian military has already received 12 pieces of these modern weapons and they believe that with help of these artillery systems they are gonna be one step closer to victory.
Also, it was recently reported that the German government has approved the sale of 100 PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
Are these howitzers really that good? Let’s try to find out!

SMArt 155 is a German 155 mm artillery round, designed for a long range, indirect fire top attack role against armoured vehicles. The SMArt carrier shell contains two submunitions with infrared sensor and millimeter wave radar, which descend over the battlefield on ballutes and attack hardened targets with explosively formed penetrator warheads. Built with multiple redundant self-destruct mechanisms, these submunitions were specifically designed to fall outside the category of submunition weapons prohibited by the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions. The name SMArt 155 is a contraction of its German name Suchzünder Munition für die Artillerie 155. SMArt is manufactured by GIWS mbh, a partnership between German armaments companies Rheinmetall and Diehl BGT Defence. GIWS started full-rate production for the German Army in 1998, SMArt was first deployed by the Bundeswehr in 2000, and has been sold to the armies of Switzerland, Greece and Australia

Any systems is dependent on what the requirements are. The PzH-2000 is better protected than CEASAR and more computerized. The CEASAR is basically a replacement for the towed artillery and the PzH-2000 is dedicated mechanised artillery. The only thing that is wrong with the German guns is the bureaucracy in obtaining the spare parts necessary for their continued operational use.

pzh can carry 60 rounds ammo inside, caesar can carry 18 rounds. pzh can shoot faster and ist faster at leaving the place. now, which system will be able to launch a higher amount of shellings a day? which system needs less suppport structure to be supplied with ammunition? how many hours of usage per day will you have with pzh running at max fire rate compared to caesar running at max fire rate? it is not that easy to compare these systems. there are strong arguments, that pzh is the more suitable machine for ukraine, but i'm not shure. it depends strongly on situations.

@swunt10
@swunt10 Год назад
@@arno222444 20 km/h is really nothing. Not a game changer such as off road capability thanks to tracks or the ability to shot and scoot without anyone having to get out of the armor protected hull. The PzH2000 can drive to designated area, stop and shot within just 1 second and after shooting drive away within just 1 second. Caesar can't do that, the have to get out of the vehicle, set it up and do the reverse before moving away again. That is not shot and scoot and proper PzH2000 shoot and scoot is much more important than the speed you drive away with. 60 or 80 km/h is as near as makes no difference.

3:26 probably false assumption. CAESAR needs more time to leave the spot after shooting their rounds. why? the wheel-based lighter chassis needs additional clamps to handle the recoil from the gun. it takes time to prepare it again to leave the field. the German howitzer just drives away after using its gun in a matter of seconds.

The Panzerhaubitze 2000 is not difficult to use in shoot and scoot missions, it was literally designed for that purpose. It can shoot more projectiles and then quickly move away, whether that be at 60 km/h or 80 km/h makes no real difference in evading counter fire.
@joostdriesens3984

@chessfan8673
@chessfan8673 Год назад
It's simply wrong that caesar is better in shoot and scoot. Caesar takes longer to get into shooting position and out of it because it has to extend and retract its supports. A very trained crew of PzH can fire only 30 secs after reaching the firing position.

@swunt10
@swunt10 Год назад
The guy has it completely wrong. Shoot and scoot tactics means you have to fire quickly and runaway quickly, at both the PzH2000 is better than Caesar because PzH2000 can fire after just 1 second after coming to a stop and get going just 1 second after shooting. Caesar nears set up time and the crew running around on the outside, so it takes minutes. Also mobility of the PzH2000 is higher than Caesar because PzH2000 is tracked and therefore can go off road much better than Caeasar so it's mobility is higher. When you talk about ferry range and speed then Caesar is 20 km/h faster and has 150km more range which makes almost no difference at all. If you go 80 km/h or 60 km/h is really no big deal and the range is near as makes no difference.

There's a new type of 70km projectile that's about to make it's debut in Ukraine. The article I read said it would be compatible with the M777 and the M109 Palladin but it didn't mention the PzH2000. It's a joint development between the US and Norway. It will be able to hit moving targets from 70km. This is what I found on it: The U.S. company Boeing and Norwegian Nammo tested a new 155 mm Ramjet projectile for NATO standard artillery. The Ramjet is being developed as part of the modernization of existing weapons for the U.S. Army. Despite the fact that the tests became known only now, the tests took place at the end of April 2022 in Norway. The military checked the operation of the jet engine, which "showed flight stability." Work on the new artillery projectile began in 2019 as part of the XM1155 Extended Range Artillery Projectile program. The project was funded by the U.S. Army. The Ramjet is equipped with an air-jet engine, thanks to which it requires less fuel and can accelerate during flight. The maximum launch range is 70 km. The Ramjet is designed for the advanced ERCA (Extended Range Cannon Artillery) project, which was previously called the M109A8. However, the M777 and M109A7 Paladin howitzers will also be able to use the new projectile. With its help they will be able to destroy enemy tanks on the move. I wonder if the PzH 2000 will be able to fire this round? Generally, when NATO develops something like this it's compatible with every nations military.

I hope they can fit it with all the 155mm platforms of each nation such as the Caesar and PzH2000

The crew of the Phz 2000 is not only better protected against fragments than "open" artillery systems (such as CAESAR, M777, FH 70, etc.), but it also provides them with a high degree of protection against wind, cold and wet. Something that will become even more important in autumn and winter. Nevertheless, both systems are hardly to hierarchy. The CAESAR is certainly faster and more maneuverable on roads than the 60-ton German howitzer (CAESAR 18.5 tons), whereas the use of tracked vehicles allows, for example, to cross irrigation ditches, which can be a real problem for wheeled vehicles in rural areas. For an army command that does not have a "personnel problem", the CAESAR, which costs about 6.5 million euros, is perhaps the tactically better choice than the Phz 2000, which is already very expensive at 17-18 million euros, but the decision to introduce one or the other weapon system depends on the country from which it is to be deployed. If the protection of the own soldiers stands more in the foreground, one feels clearly better in a Phz 2000, if the army leadership attaches more importance to a maximum of effect, then perhaps 2 to 3 guns of a personnel-intensive system like the CAESAR win instead of one Phz2000 in meaning. The weapon system was developed to defend the fatherland. It is part of the Combined Battle of Arms. Hence the armor protection, the tracks and the powerful engine. She is basically a driving robot awaiting precise commands and a diva who is flatbed-loaded to battle and needs a crew for maintenance. It also issues a lot of error messages during the battles, which are then repaired by the crew. In the Bundeswehr, it is not used so hard in maneuvers. She likes 100 rounds a day and the optimal distance. Hundreds of rounds a day means the bolt and autoloader wear out quickly, requiring the crew to repair and calibrate. But that is to be expected and nothing special. The Ukrainians received spare parts packages from the Bundeswehr and put them together based on their long experience on the maneuvering area.
