They actually take care to show how good he is at business decisionmaking. In season two/three there are several pieces of dialogue about how successful his ATN direction was.

I would've agreed with you that Greg has more leverage, but seeing how Tom and Shiv are hate-flirting now I think Tom will have more leverage as he is now head of ATN after Shiv told him to kick Cyd last episode (I think)
Gerri’s best skill has been avoiding all responsibility and decisions made so she can lay blame at others and create narratives. And at Waystar, that’s probably the smartest thing one can do. Those that put themselves out there against Logan usually ended up axed. But with Logan gone, I can see where she’ll jump into the fray now that his volatility is no longer hanging over her head.
I’m an in house corporate lawyer who has worked with some of the most savage people there are (not Logan bad, but really bad), and what you just described above is the very thing that I have watched the extremely calculating people do to get to the top. I like Gerri. But she is much more savvy a chess player than comes across.
Well for Tom, Carl's observation and opinion of him spoke for many. At least, it was Carl's honest assessment of Tom, probably the first honest words spoken by any party about anything.
Lol I bet that was J. Smith-Cameron breaking character and they kept it, I watched one of her old interviews and she said while she doesn't have many scenes with Matthew Macfadyen it's really hard to act with him because he's very funny and cracks her up behind the scenes. The opposite happens with Kieran Culkin because she's already so used to his jokes so she knows he's gonna say something totally ridiculous so she can manage not to laugh and ruin a scene.
Love how Karl was putting Tom in his place. Beautifully summarized his position in the company. No experience, not a major shareholder, and even if he didn't betray Shiv, still not liked by anyone except Logan. He really was fairly and squarely fkd.
Logan Roy only surrounded himself with hyper competent people and/or sycophants. Frank, Karl, and Gerri were both. Tom was just a sycophant. He's in trouble around the real sharks with daddy gone.
Tom insults the kids, Karl roasts Tom, Gerry mocks Karl and Tom................the chain of abuse continues, good to see they're keeping Logan's legacy alive
I don’t know if it’s the writing or just coincidence. Gerri has the lawyer talk, or legalese as they say. Karl deals with money, and money is the truth in many aspects
God I loved Karl so much during this scene he finally told Tom what everyone is thinking, Tom is so pathetic and has extremely long dialogues just like the ones I add at the end of my assignment.

News of Gerri’s firing never made it past Roman, Frank, Karl, Carolina & Tom because they were dealing with bigger problems, and when you get fired, especially from a major corporation, there’s all kinds of forms you have to sign off on before your exit, including legal stuff and NDAs. Gerri never did any of that and it seemed pretty clear that some of the board wasn’t fully on board with her being let go, so Gerri sticking around is totally fair game. And I hope thats the case because I love me some Gerri too. She rules.
Gerri wasn’t fired. She was given a “heads up” by Roman that she was going to be fired. And with no one actually at the helm to see it through, she can stay in the game.
@@robjgolde3221 good points all around. Currently the power dynamic is so ramped up, I just keep wondering where it will all go. Kendall?! Nope. Shiv is my guess but that may just be my wishful thinking. Gerri is just spectacular with her calculated and measured demeanor.
