I really liked this era of Kendall. He's been through the power plays and mind games, he's been burned and scared shitless and tried to get out, but finally resigned himself to this business and is usually the first person in the room to be genuine and cut through bullshit to make things happen
You have to try really hard to get someone like Roman, who only ever tiptoes and jokes around real emotion, to genuinely blow up on you without any pretense. I knew by how furious this little insult against his dad made him that he was going to break down hard later when the grief actually hit him. He really loved Logan probably more than anyone despite the abuse
I love how this whole show builds up the idea that Connor isn't TRULY a full sibling to the other 3 Roys ( " I'm the ELDEST BOY!!! " ), with him always being on the outside and never being involved in the sibling bonding in the finales then in the final season you realise that in some ways Connor was closer to Logan ( the dinner recording from the finale ) and that he also had a more mature outlook on life what with him not being desperate for their father's love/approval ( which was almost impossible to gain anyway )
In any other show mattson would be oblivious to the shenanigans of the protagonist but within a minute he confronted them about trying to tank the deal and it’s so embarrassing. Imagine being that incompetent that you don’t realize people see right through your very simple tricks.
These scenes are all so much funnier when rewatching a year later. Especially Kendall blatantly trying to hide his excitement and desperation. Particularly at 2:07.
2:21 Tom understands the joke as much as we do from the context clues "incest" and "Hapsburg" and genuinely agrees. Another unnoticed Tom W that gradually stacked up throughout the series.
The scary thing is Roman is probably right about Mattson intentionally drags the deal out for months, partly to see if Logan's gonna expire soon. Dude's a bit psychotic like Logan, so I wouldn't rule him out of that inhuman tactic, especially when he's very explicit about waiting for Logan to die, so it'd be a clearer coast for him. And now he wants to close the deal immediately after he died. Mf definitely timed that.
"Parts shop", "Tribute band", "already rich". "ok Popeye". The writing on this show was so staggeringly incredible. They served up these perfectly crafted lines to such perfectly well suited actors and it worked so damned well.
What was brilliant about this scene was that it was written/shot from Mencken's POV. As repugnant a character he is himself, they put you in his position of being inundated with all the relentless, clumsy pitching to show you how bumbling the Roy kids are. How idiotic they come across to an actual politician.
What are all these comments about Logan testing Tom and wanting to hear the truth? 😂 People are trying to be smart while complitely misinterpreting the situation? Tom is the most obvious and spineless people pleaser among all Logan's people. And he always does everything to please Logan, he even betrayed his wife to do so. And Logan knows perfectly well WHO Tom is, there is no need to suddenly check his ability to tell the truth. He starts the conversation with Tom about Kerry and he just waits untill Tom catches the right idea. First Tom is kind of complimenting Kerry, but that's not what Logan whats. So, Logan non-verbally hints that he wants to hear something elese, with his facial expressions and questions he leads Tom towards being less complimentary about Kerry and towards a decision to stop her "career" on Tv. And since Logan never said anything explicitly, all the responsobility is on Tom as if it was his decision and his initiative. That's how you do it, that's what Stalin would do sometimes, a classic move. All those comments (about wanting to get Tom's honest opinion or wanting to test Tom) are truly rediculous.
2:31 this still makes me sad. Reverse the situation and all would have been hating the person. Never go on a bad side of women(related ones), they have no limit to pettiness or any morals when it comes to burning down the house.
I always like these two because they are basically healthier version of Tom and Shiv minus gaslighting and lying. They both are supporting each other and they both realize they need each other. Eventhough Willa's love to Connor is 50-50, she knows he needs someone to love as Connor always being alone.
