Perfect idea for a character based on this and feel free to use it, I have too many already. The pact of the trigger makes perfect sense to me but i believe the warlock doesn't get the hexgun to start out with, rather on his/her/their travels they encounter an artificer (origin of this encounter irrelevant) and either takes/trades for/earns the interesting little contraption he was seen using and your patron took immediate interest in. I like to imagine it would be an early rifle, similar to a musket but with a bolt action loading method (single shot cartridge). Upon sleeping while the weapon is in the warlocks possesion it changes into a hexgun in the warlocks dreams. The patron took a personal liking to this weird new weapon. Thats my idea at least. Maybe even the warlock started out as a hexblade and the patron was like "wait a minute... that shit looks cooler..." the could keep nearly any backstory for a warlock in tact by just adding this on so if you want to enjoy a little twist on the warlock have fun!

Just backed the project super excited for this homebrew to come out.

I love mixing guns and magic and I love the idea with this warlock of branching out from just eldritch blast and making other cantrips more viable, but it misses half of the point of eldritch blast which is all the different add on effects you can get for it. The invocations don't make up for it much either because every pacy has cool invocations, plus they are almost exclusively combat focused. Much like pact of blade, it's super combat focused and super invocation focused, without even having as good damage output as pact of blade hex blade, where you could already make a gun if you wanted. It just like, doesn't really fit any nish super well for me. Not nearly as much utility or flexibility as tomb or chain, but not nearly as much damage as pact of blade. I know it sounds kinda op, but I would have focused on the secondary effects of the cantrips, allowing this to be more of a battle master-ish, trick shot, combat manipulator, rather than just letting you split damage.

You can already make a warlock without eldritch blast off you have toll the dead. It's not as good, given all the innovations with eldritch blast, but it does work.

I think it would make more sense if each creature could only be affected by each affect once per turn, so you have to decide between spreading out control affects or focus firing!

Monkey I actually love you for this, I found this after making ideas all very similar to this but could not find a concrete way to implement them I cannot tell you how bewildered I am, its an exact copy cat of what my mind was thinking. SO THANK YOU!! HAHAHA I FINALLY CAN USE A WARLOCK WITH SPELL SNIPER AND GUNS

Interesting, I'd've had it where the hexgun would be a +1/2/3 spellcasting focus scaling w/warlock lvl and would act as a second spell list. After a long rest you can "load" up to 6 shots with cantrips being 1 and spells being 2. They'd stay loaded until your next long rest and your spell list would still refresh after a short rest. But the kicker is when you use your action to fire your Hexgun you cast the spells/cantrips in the order you loaded them. You'll get a feature to choose the next one as a Bonus action later on. And there'd be an invocation to turn it into a blunderbuss, which converts the loaded spells and cantrips into a short cone of force damage scaling with loaded spell slots. And an invocation to make a long ranged rifle with the "loading" property but doubles your Cha bonus to hit and DC calculations for the shot as long as it is a warlock spell being cast.

I multiclassed a pact of the blade warlock with an Artillerist Artificer. They have an arcane firearm that blasts spells. Also the combination of infusion and invocations makes it solid. A smart, cunning gunslinger that's very, very squishy.

So what I’m hearing is, I can shoot bullets that insult my enemies to death. *_Neat_*

One more simple way. Artificer Initiate Feat, Fire Bolt. A flare gun.

How to give a Warlock a gun? Have an Artificer in the party. Reach Level 3. Take Artillerist. Warlock is now Artificer's Sniper/Spotter battle buddy.

Just as a quick note, no D&D player should be afraid of not taking Eldritch Blast. Despite what many say, there is no rule preventing you from doing this.

I’m in a campaign right now, we played last week, and one of them had a warlock pact of the trigger gun and I would have never traced it back to you! I’m new to the game so I thought it might’ve been homebrewed, seeing as we’re running a homebrew filled campaign but it would’ve blended right in. So far from a second person perspective it seems balanced.

I played a Cowboy Warlock once. He just did finger guns with eldritch blast. In a longer game, I would've asked the dm about finding a rod of the pact keeper that just do happened to be shaped like a gun
