Hey everyone! Hope you enjoy this video of a driver fitting I got at Club Champion earlier this year in March! A little bit of a different style video for us. Do you like this? Not like this? More or less of these style videos? Let me know what you think. Appreciate you all! Merry Christmas!
Eric, I really found this useful even though I am not a high level player. I have been fit twice at other places. Never felt we spent enough time on metrics. Jim gave you a general view on the fly. Then he threw out the outliers and discussed the differences, although minor. You were not just told “this suits you best”. You were given data to go with your feel. Made me think “I want more of that!”
Great video. After visiting my local golf shop and doing the pick up and wiggle the head test on a lot of drivers I thought the cobra f9 would be the one. After fitting though it was the m5 with a low torque shaft. Definitely pays to get a good fitting.
As someone going to get a driver fitting this weekend, this was great! Love promoting the concept of these fittings, it can help enormously if done right. Naturally - all depends on the fitter. Would love more content like this.
I went to CC a little over a year ago for a full fitting. I was curious to see if they could find me any distance even though I was hitting the ball very well with my (then) current clubs. For the irons they did find a combo head and shaft I liked that brought me down one club less. What was more amazing was that it was easier to hit good shots without having to make such a perfect swing, so my mishit pattern(shown in a circle on the screen) shrank from an average of 10 yards to 4. I now hit a 150 yard carry 9 iron for the first time in my life. As for the driver, after I hit 5 or 6 with mine, the fitter kept looking at the numbers on the screen and said he didn't think we would find anything I could hit better. We tried a few, and he was right! So that told me right then they were hones and not just about selling clubs. I averaged 265 with a long of 280 and a couple in the 250-255 range. I did have a 7 or 8 year old 3 wood I liked and hit 230. He found a combo that added 15 yards to that and I've never hit 3 wood 245 before! BTW, I am a 1 handicap and I am 65 years old. Sounds like Eric has a ton of work to do 😂 Does the swing doctor need a swing doctor? 😷 Shoutz to Jim and crew for grounding our boy EC 🍻⛳️🏌️♂️... Another fabulous Sweet Mary Production ... Y’all are gonna get a Netflix deal if y’all keep this high level shit up.
At the NY Golf Center on W 35 behind Macy’s I bought the M1 TaylorMade driver used for $175. I’ve been thrilled with it. I’ve had many great drives with it. It’s fun thinking that Dustin Johnson loved the M1 driver. He said it was the best club in his bag. I call my M1 the Big Bopper (check the song Chantily Lace) . The connection between my big Bopper and the Big Bopper is just by chance. I didn’t know the story of the Big Bopper. I’ll let you know how closing the face at address with my irons helps me make contact like the pros. All golfers are being entertaining. It’s a consequence of being civilized.
Eric this is very helpful. I want to do an iron fitting this year. I know there is a Club Champion in Vegas which is the closest option for me. Grat info.
Man I’ve been itching to get a fitting at club champion and this helped a ton! I was leaning more twords the Cherry Hill NJ location but I may have to look into this one instead!
I really enjoyed it, Steven and would certainly recommend them. I've been there 3-4 times with other players as well and they have always been great! Hope you go and get what you're looking for!
Wonder why they don't use Quad. I work at a fitting studio with Quad and play on a trackman during the winter and spin numbers are always different. Love that you went with Mizuno. I'm playing as a Mizzy Staffer next year. Good video thanks Eric
Nice video. Thanks for showing the detail of a Club Champion fit. I was staring at your spin rates and I feel like the Trackman indoor mode struggles similar to my Flightscope. I am having a hard time believing your spin is that high based on everything else showing on your launch conditions. My guess is that your spin is actually lower. GCQuad is very hard to beat for indoor fitting. Spin rates have a HUGE effect on distance outcomes. I went for a fit at TXG Tour Experience Golf and ended up with that Fuji tour spec shaft and M5 head. It has a great feel for sure. Would be interesting to know what your outdoor results were with your build compared to the fitting.
Hey JC! Thanks for the message and good points! I agree..my trackman indoor vs outdoor there can be some differences seen. I have had great results with GC Quad indoors as well. I haven't tested the driver with my trackman outside but maybe soon!
When using trackman indoors it’s absolutely critical to have one of the metallic dot stickers on the ball or else the spin readings will be wrong. I’m not sure if they had those on the ball. A lot of these companies don’t do that stuff so the data can be wrong.
Eric, you have a great swing (not surprising) but, it seems you don't fully turn on your backswing. Your transition is very smooth. Do you find an advantage in having a shorter backswing? More control? Merry Christmas!
Hey! Thanks for the message! Agreed-my backswing turn way WAY too little here and my swing was too short. This was something that started in the winter of 2018 and creeped over into the spring this year We filmed this in early March of this year....I saw that in my swing as well and have worked to get more turn and length throughout the year if you check more recent videos it should look different! I definitely would encourage more turn and longer swing than I have here!
Eric Cogorno Golf even still Eric, really smooth and terrific swing. You really live what you teach. And... 305 is a long ball. I’m sure you’re even longer now. Thanks for all the great videos, I really enjoy your content!
Appreciate it! My backswing turn (as of about a year ago) tends to get short....funny seeing it and it videos over the winter when I wasn't practicing....something I need to keep an eye on!!
Hey Chris! I don't remember...will have to double check! The Driver I went in with was very high spin....I believe the one I left with was less. I gained about 20 yards with the new driver that lasted!
Really good video to show all the things that good club fitters consider. Made an appt for my 16-year old son at Club Champion in LA for Thursday to get a premium shaft for his driver he just got, so he can be ready for the school season. Can't wait to see how it goes.
I think it’s very helpful. I want a fitting for I feel I’m using the wrong shafts for my swing speed. I’m self diagnosing my swing faults (coming over the top) and felt using a heavier shaft would help me get on plane more consistently. To some degree it has. Your videos help a lot to really understand where I need to improve. Thanks
Eric Happy New Year !!! Brother I would kill for your swing ,,,, not sure of your numbers but swing looks awesome !!! I've been to club champion on LI ny that stated iam a first year serious golfer so iam hooked lol !!! 18 handicap average joe with swing speed and ball speed all good 55 years old got fitted for ping G400 sitting in my shed cant take the off set rope everything left also fitted for driver ended up with a thousand dollar club head with shaft cobra F9 44 1/2 inches out of the bag into the shed lol this all says totally struggling with swing!!! Never comfortable in setup or swing all good though,,,,,Eric not sure if you've done a video on Tempo I think my opinion very important just sayin !!!! If there is a video please let me know and or maybe one day you can get one together ty again for all you do awesome teacher/ instructor!!! PS you should have gotten fitted as a teenager you would have been on PGA tour !!!! Ty again
Hey Kevin! Thanks for the message and the kind words my friend! Good idea on tempo...havent done anything recently...have a few of the live lessons from when we first started that included some tempo if you search my name and "tempo" you should see some Hope all is well on your end and you keep enjoying the game!!
Definitely helped me weed out some clubs....I really based on 1. Numbers to find the top options and weed out 2. Feel to weed down farther 3. Look to finish it off Mizuno ended up as the winner
I wish I had one of these near me in Scotland I agree pxg head v mizuno head better off miss hits than pxg head and feel I felt pxg head dead compaired.
Is it more expensive to get 1 really great fit driver to play for the next 4 to 5 years, or tinker and buy 3 to 4 new and 5 or 6 used ones over the same period looking for lightning in a bottle.
What specs did you start with and end up with to go from 265 yd to 280 yd carry? @ 265 yd carry Club head manufacturer, loft? Backspin Rate ? Ball speed ? Smash factor? Dynamic loft? Club head speed? Angle of attack? Launch angle? Swing weight, shaft weight and manufacturer? Dispersion left and right ? Golf ball? @280 Yd Club head manufacturer, loft? Backspin Rate ? Ball speed ? Smash factor? Dynamic loft? Club head speed? Angle of attack? Launch angle? Swing weight, shaft weight and manufacturer? Dispersion left and right ? Golf ball? Did you end up with the Mizuno driver?
Hey Joe! Thanks for the message and questions. Unfortunately we did this fitting way earlier in the year in March so I do not remember nor have all of that information! I ended up with the Mizuno. Hope you are well-Merry Christmas!
Hey Henry! Unfortunately as we did this fitting in March of this year, I don't even remember....nor what I ate yesterday :) Hope you are well- Merry Christmas!
Great question, lol! MY buddy Paul had it in his bag and I cracked my old driver so I ended up using it for the year! Definitely did not fit me well :)
Thanks for the feedback! As with any industry...some are better than others. I have had very good experiences at this specific Club Champion as well as a few other places. I think its a good place for people to start and they can always decide for themselves!
@@CogornoGolf shouldn't you include what pricing would be than to us apparently normal people who have to pay for it so people know what they are getting into...not allmof us are that lucky
Hey Paul! Maybe! Not sure...the point was to show the fitting process itself. I'm sure you can contact them for pricing. Appreciate the feedback either way!
Yes! A big part of that was that the driver I WAS using I just grabbed from my buddy....was never fit and it was definitely not optimal for me. So to me the 285 vs 265 is really what I SHOULD be doing with my speed/contact numbers....more so that the OLD driver was bad for me as much as the new one good.....if that makes sense www.mizunousa.com/category/golf+content/st190+drivers.do
Feel like it’d be important to include the ridiculous $150 fitting fee. And it takes 1.5 hours. That’s not a fitting. That’s testing everything they have. It shouldn’t take that long for a fitter to find what you need
Thats for your feedback! I value your (and everyones) opinions. I will disagree on this particular one. I don't think $150 is ridiculous at all...I charge $1750 for a golf school :) I also think the length of time is because they are thorough and thats GOOD! Either way-hope you had a great holiday season and enjoy the new year!
Thanks for your response. To me, it just seems like there is not much of a fitting aspect. Instead, it’s just testing out different head/shaft combinations (looks fun btw) and then reading some numbers.
ddjax904 completely depends on the player. If you are struggling with driver paying $150 for a fitting and better performance isn’t bad. If you already hit your driver well there might not be much improvement
Weird....you go to a top club fitter with the entire videocrew for 1 hour and from the answers you seem not interested in the data they produce ?? That is a reason to go back soon and start from scratch !
Haha thanks for the feedback Aart! It's not that Im not interested...its that we filmed this in back in March. I have filmed about 200 videos since then.....hard to remember everything thats all. Hope you are well.
Love your videos but not a fan of club champion at all. I payed $200 for a full bag fitting. They wanted to sell me irons for around $2,500 with graphite shafts(trying to match my current ball speed). I didnt even for back for the longer clubs fitting. My wedge fitting was 2 swings with tape on the bottom with a board on the ground. I hit 2 flush shots with 1 wedge and he said-"you're good!". Putter fitting was the only decent thing I can be positive about. Never got into details of ball flight, feels, weights, or anything. He said , you just swing and I will handle the technical stuff. Terrible experience! You can say its an isolated incident but the fact that anyone above him trained him that way or even let's him work that way is sad. This industry really takes advantage of people and my experience reaffirmed my hesitation to trust "experts".
this is so good man! its incredible what the perfect combo of shaft and head can do for someone. unfortunately with the $150 fitting, $500 head and shafts up to $400 most ppl just can't afford a $800-$1,000 driver. Im at the point where i've been playing the same driver for over 10 years. i've tried a ton of used drivers this year and i've found nothing better than the one i have. the only way i'll be able to be able to get more out of my driver is with a custom fit which i unfortunately can't afford at the moment.
Great video! This is a way more comprehensive fitting than I’ve ever received. I’ve been wanting to go to one of those club fitting places, but I don’t live within driving distance. It’s good to know that they are willing bring you back in for tweak adjustments. I’m surprised you ended up with the Mizuno, I would’ve thought the Cobra F9 would’ve been the one to go with.
Hey Myles! Good idea-me too! Unfortunately I do not have that...I believe they sent me the data but we did this in March of this year so I think that's long gone! Merry Christmas!
One plus side of a little more spin is a more stable and accurate ball flight. If you aren’t hurting for distance keeping a little extra spin will come in handy if you mis hit a lot.
Smart man! I think everyone should go get a fitting just to see. Don't always have to buy something....start with a fitting. Sometimes minor tweaks can get a LONG way!
Next time I'm getting fitted at a place with an outdoor hitting bay. I just don't like the time delay in hitting shots into the simulator screen. And I don't buy some of the distance numbers I see on the simulator.
Club champion = GARBAGE. Paid $400 for just a shaft that would have cost me $125 online...went back for the “moneyback guarantee refit” and the guy told me I was in the exact club he would put me in...sold the driver a month later and lost hundreds of dollars. Absolute shit if you ask me
