I have the GoPro Hero 6 and I use it for my travel videos specially with that stabilization at 4K30. I love Hyperlapses and Timelapses and due to this awesome feature on the Hero 7 I will upgrade it very soon!! Thank you Ben for this great comparison!!!

Great review. I just purchased a 7 Black and was blown away by how well the EIS worked. Had it mounted to a Side by Side while traversing some quite rough terrain and the video was rock stable. If it wasn't for the fact I wanted to have GPS data during this run, I'd have recorded it with my old Hero 2. SO glad I didn't do that, it would have been straining on the eyes.

Complete? Try to use Hypersmoodge with low light... and stabilisation goes out of the window. All EIS is based on contrast and it will - probably - newer replace good (I'd like to stress that "good") gimbal.

Thanks for this, I have been using a Mavic Air drone at 4k for my BASE jumping trips, and I was thinking about upgrading my GoPros to get better 4k footage. Coming from the 5 to either the 6 or 7. I think after watching this I will opt for the 7. I actually still think the 4 Black is my favourite, its simple and doesn't freeze, but now it is obviously limited tech. Your main Sony camera is epic mate also. Cheers for the vid

At 10:19 where is the metal pole to the left of the sphere?? And can you use a polarizing filter for outdoor water shots? The one with the fish would make a big difference for the 7.

Have you ever tested any of those cams underwater? Especially concerning light and colors? Would be very interesting for divers, and there are plenty out there;-) Also personally I'd be interested in a coparison of the 6 go pro 6 or 7 black with the intova x2. Since I don't record in 4k, mostly 1080p 60fps or 120fps on fast moving radio controlled vehicles.. Which would you recommend? My main camera is a Hero8 Black, back ups are Hero 4 and Hero Session, would like something with stabilisation built in for onboard the cars, without spending Hero8 Black money.

Hi Ben, How often does the H-7 freeze up? That would get old really fast if it occurs often. I’m still working with the H-4 black and it never freezes. I’m waiting to see if they can fix the problems with the H-7, your thoughts? Excellent review as always!👍🏽

Oh no. You cannot take it next year to Tokyo because next year the GoPro Hero 8 will be released and will be better and you will have to buy it and take it with you to Tokyo.

Exceptional Review...but I'm sticking with my 2 year old Sony FDR-X3000!! God, I love this camera! I bought mine in August in 2016 and still going strong. I'm sure the Sony's video quality may have dropped off as newer sensors/chipsets have come along as the years past, but I still don't have any complaints! As far as I can remember, mine hasn't had any freezing issues either. I'm hoping Sony will eventually upgrade their great (but getting "long-in-the-tooth") FDR-X3000 action cam, but I couldn't find any info if they're going to. Great work here, though!!

Nice review. I just sold my hero 6 and got the hero 7 black. I’ve had a lot of freezing issues as well, and I haven’t used it much, but I do like the stabilization and Hyperlapse mode. That’s why I upgraded, so I think it’s worth it

I conducted my own test between Hero 6 & 7 at 4K/60 and got similar results. The Hypersmooth stabilization is far better than the EIS on the Hero 6.

They are both the same EIS the Hero 7 just compresses the video quality to add more stabilization.

The video comparison @ 1:46 is completely misleading...and that's a fact...as I've used both in some crazy situations ..the 7's stability increase is negligible, but only when the 6 is still running the original 1.6 version software when it launched. The so-called upgrade of the 6 to the 2.01 version defected the stability in an effort to push the sales of the new 7... That's how it works with companies unfortunately
