You can software modify your yi 4k+ to over 250mbit bit rate also enable stability on 4k 60fps If you want to make it into a beast get a ribcage mod with custom lens

Turn off HyperSmooth while panning (should only be used for fast action) and the stutter should stop. GoPro needs to figure out the software better and differentiate camera shake with panning, but until then, you have to cycle through stabilization options for different types of shots

You forgot one main parameter: YI 4k Plus battery last double the time of GoPro 7, It´s terrible to have to recharge the battery frequently.

Battery life on Hero 7 Black is about an hour which is disappointing. To deal with this situation, I have 2 extra batteries plus the dual battery charger that permits 2 batteries to be charged without being in the camera.

As a cinematographer, I like the look on Yk better, it's more flat and natural vs contrasty go pro...but I hope that can be fixed with a neutral picture profile...I say GP7 is a win because of the image stabilization.

Apple is pricey ok, but for example, the IOS architecture itself is lot clean an made only for apple phones, android is made for 1000++ phones and the apps are based in java which is made for 10000++ devices ahaha. It translates to a lot smoother and efficient experience on the IOS. I'm android user and love it, but it will never be at ios lever due to his complex architecture. :)

People are completly brained washed by GOPRO brand name. If you only record 1080p videos, Yi 4k+ does just fine. Not need to pay extra 150 dolar for go pros. Plus GOPRO DO NOT PROVIDE EXTRA BATTERY

I think the Yi is better because if you are a video editor you can adjust colors in editing software. So raw colours are no big deal

GoPro 7 video quality is outstanding plus you don't need a gimbal. In case of Yi you also need a waterproof case. Choice is obvious - GoPro 7 and its HyperSmooth simply has no competition. Video from Yi is shaky as hell. Besides, it loses a lot of details eg. jump to 4:12 - GoPro has the proper blue sky, while on Yi it is just plain white, which is really bad. Time Warp present in GoPro 7 is also a killer, no editing needed to create an interesting time-lapse-like video with full stabilization.

I got the YI 4K+ and i love it. I just wish it was a tiny bit more stable during walking, and it had better slow-mo (more fps in 1080p) This camera will be good enough for at least 5 years, if not more. I see little reason to get a new one, especially for what i do.. just recording while walking ;p

Clearly, Yi has a fine product here, being able to stand up against H7 at all after so much time. (Reminds me in some ways of the Mavic Pro vs Autel EVO battle a few months back.) I think I could be happy within limits with either one. But the limits removed for H7 (especially waterproofness and stable 4k60) seem worth the extra cost, to me. I think I'd go for GoPro for the same reasons I stuck with DJI. Thanks, Ben, for another great review / comparison. You covered a lot in a little time, and did that very well!

I think your assessment is spot on and I would agree that I would lean towards the GoPro H7 due to the same reasons you state. The H6 was trash though and I would take the Yi 4K+ all day over that. When the next gen Yi 4K comes out, I look forward to those comparisons to the H7.

Is the GoPro $200+ better? Not at all in my opinion. Especially considering that stuttering issue which in my opinion makes the video useless. Get the Yi 4k+ and if you want that butter smooth stabilization get a Zhiyun Smooth-Q for $90.

I have both cameras and a Yi wearable gimbal. Yi is cheaper and maybe the quality is close enough to think the gopro is not worth it. But, hypersmooth is better that the Yi EIS. The hyperlapse mode is great and impossible to replicate with the YI. And even though you can get a Yi with a gimbal for the price of the gopro, it is way more convenient to carry around only a small camera, light and pretty much indestructible. A gimbal+camera combination is bigger, harder to store and you are always affraid it will hit somewhere or get wet. Nevertheless, two great cameras. Cheers

Hi, I just bought an Yi 4xk camera and the video is kinda grainy, even in a sunny day outdoors. I have the default setup, what should I change to improvide the video quality (it is set on HIGH). May the cause be UHS 1 microSC card instead of UHS 3?

What is the max recording length for 4k/30fps and 4k/60fps for both of these? And can it be extended if I use my anker power pack? Just have had a really hard time finding this info online. My galaxy s9+ only does 5 & 10 minute clips and I need to take longer ones for video projects. Any help I'm really really greatfull for.

I bought a gopro hero 7 but I have been a YI fan for a while, so before I got the hero 7 I sent an email to YI asking about a new camera coming. They replyed saying they dont intend to release a new camera with features like hypersmooth, hyperlapse or waterproof. I understood from their message that YI 4k+ is their too end camera (and it still is great) and new caeras will concentrate on lower budgets.

Audio from go pro 7 sounds muffled. GoPro should focus on better sound and wind noise rather than making it water proof.

Have you considered the effect of placement on image quality, that is where you have each device attached to your stand will affect how and where the light hits and any subsequent Auto adjustments that are made. There is a shot where you shoot the purple flowers with a large Bush behind and on the GoPro 7 you can see the sun shining in through the bush whereas on the Yi (which looks to be placed further on the right of your stand) the sun is blocked out. That surely has an effect on the contrast and white balance for example.

Thanks for the review. Bought the Yi 4K+ after watching your review. Really glad I did, the Yi's video quality is simply fantastic. The GoPro stabilization is good, but for me, the stuttering makes the video useless. Imagine going on a vacation and come back with stuttering videos. Some say turn off HyperSmooth while panning, that to me is just annoying. I want to concentrate on shooting videos, not remembering to turn the Hypersmooth On and Off everytime I change from panning to action shot.

YI4+ is ok , but still got some issues with EIS verry good price , Go pro hero 7 black is the best action camera when comes EIS and is water proof 10 m without protective case . The bad things about Go pro hero 7 is the cost of accesories, and the silly 80 usd for the microphone adaptor , that's just ridiculous . Go pro is acting like Apple , they go sky high with prices untill the consumers will refuse to pay silly prices for something that chinese companies will do better at half price .

At 2:18 you can clearly see the Yi is way more clipped out compared to the GoPro. I’m amazed he said the yi was better. There’s way better color and light contrast on the GoPro in comparison. There’s way more white (clipping) in the blue sky compared to the GoPro. Clipping means when the light is so bright the camera can’t make out what it is anymore, so it becomes white and there’s no more detail of the sky in a much wider range.

If you are a daring person who does a lot of sports, the GoPro is definitely better because of the waterproofness and the durability. But for fun and photography and RU-vid videos, the Yi is probably better for the price

Biggest selling point for GoPro is hypersmooth. Video quality won’t be noticeably improved. I sold my GoPro 4 and gimbal to pay for the new GoPro on its way!

Hypersmooth isn't worth the money. If you are using Adobe premiere pro you can get better stabilizer within post production.

@@q4short i tested with motorcycle footage. If you do it this way it will look way sharper and the footage has better stabilizing. Testet with hero 7 hypersmooth off and one footage with it on.

The GoPro will have resale value unlike the YI because people are suckers for searching brands. I should know, some dickheads overbidded on my GoPro 1. Hello sir! Need some advice in buying an action camera for beginners and don't know what to buy ,i need for fishing(not under water fishing ) only feeder fishing carp, need a good action camera that have good Voice record and video quality full HD 1080p 60fps or 1440p 60fps i don't need 4k videos ,but mostly important i need a good action camera that have good image stabilization ,feeder fishing request a lot movement,waiting for your reply! Watching this in 2023, is the stuttering on the GoPro fixed by now? And was it firmware? SDcard choice? Planning to shoot driving footage in 4k60 and stabilisation and smooth motion are my top priorities

Снимаю свои видео на такую. Уже 4 год. Все в стоке. Корпус треснул в первую неделю лежа на полке. WIFI не работал - брак модуля. после года использования стала разряжаться. Разобрал, отсоединил wifi модуль и камера стала работать. Заказал отдельно модуль на алиэкспресс - сам поставил - буду пробовать стримить. У камеры минусы то что трескается корпус и много брака с wifi модулем. В остальном только плюсы.

I don't like any of the Hero 7 Back footage I've seen. Blacks are way too dark, filling in fine details. And look at how washed out and yellow the highlights are in facial features when direct sunlight is on him (4.46, 5.41)
