Theon is such a strong character because I think a lot of people have been in a similar position. Realizing that you made the wrong choice and that you are truly paying for it. That you are truly unhappy with your mistake.

I agree completely he such a complex character if u think about it. He a person who grew up always fighting himself cause he always felt tore between being a Greyjoy or a Stark. Then when he picks he loses everything he holds deer only when he gets footing again he feels horrible cause he has to live with himself for making the wrong one then he does leaves his sister to die in the hands of uncle like he did back when she tried to save him. Only for him to try and successfully save her.

He's one of the most complex characters in the entire series. His story arc has always been my favorite.

Alfie Allen is one of the most under rated actors on the show. He has had one of the most complex character arcs to tackle, and he nailed it, going from a cocky young lad who sought glory, to a tortured prisoner who has lost his mind and lost free will, to someone who has finally found themselves and knows their true allegiances.

And his acting has been terrific.

Tbh I think the writers kinda shafted him till now. When a character always loses all the time it just kinda gets boring, which his arc has been since season 4. Never cared about his scenes since. And he kinda saves Yara really easily and really fast, you can't really enjoy him finally succeeding, hell even he looks miserable. Its just...weird? If Jon had a rescue mission it'd be the whole episode, but Theon I guess only gets 5 minutes after 4 seasons of beatdown?

He had one. He himself says on the books that Robb was his brother and Ned was his father. And it's said that Robb was closer to Theon more than he was to Jon or all his other brothers. Theon was just a lost boy that didn't knew what a real familly was.

He was Zuko of Game of Thrones. His own father and sister despised him, and they were vicious. He had to live in enemy lands, yet his life in there was better than his life in his home. He had a better sister figure than his own sister. He tried to please his father, so he betrayed the people who were closest to him. He regretted this, and swore to change for the better. He was lost for years. And most importantly, he took his honor back.

Theon is the most human character.

Cat and some of the Stark kids, yes. But Robb treated him like a brother and Ned treated him like his own son. I think Theon wanted to be a Stark more then he wanted to be a Greyjoy. He saw the loyalty, love, and warmth in that family.

Theon was much closer to the starks than to his biological Family. No wonder why he said that his real father lost his dead in King's landing and No wonder why He was so loyal to the Starks ( until He betrayed them to make his father proud ), because He felt actually home at Winterfell, that's why it hit him so much, when he heard this words from Robb, who was like a brother for him. Even when He betrayed the Starks He realized He chose the wrong side and should have been with Robb instead. Ned was more of a father to him than his biological father ever was. Ned threated him kindly and with respect, unlike his biological father, who saw him as a stark in the first place and not like one of his own. And just because Robb was mean by saying "it's not your House" doesn't mean he meant it this way. They grew Up together and were close. Theon was the one, Robb trusted the Most, that's why He was so mad and upset about him that he betrayed the starks. He saw him as a part of the starks, and when He said " it's Not your House" he meant by blood, which is obviously true. Robb wasn't the one with the biggest empathy anyway. He also called Jon "Snow", reminded him often that he is not a stark. But He still loved him as his Brother, just like Theon.

Will yeah but Robb was his brother from another mother and eventually the starks accepted him as one of there own he may have been born a Greyjoy but he died honourably and a hero like a stark would and he died a stark and proud who just wanted to defend his brother bran stark.

Oh, it's not over yet, not until he is dead. I hope he'll get the chance to return the favour to Jon, help him realise he is Targaryen and Stark both, and that Nedd WAS his father. Jon's likely going to need that with the revelation he's just been given. And even from there, I imagine Theon will have to put his blade behind his purpose too. And probably die for it.

All the arcs in Season 8 were terrible even. Yeah including Theon, he was a hostage not a Stark. The Hound was kept around for fanservice. Jaime's arc went into the dumpster. Sansa got away with stupid shit because of bad writing. And Jorah was fine I guess.

Just like Jaime you can't ignore all the bad actions he's done despite his justifications. They want to redeem themselves but you can't say others are wrong in getting angry based on their past actions (ie Jaime attempt to kill Bran or Theons betrayal of the Starks). Just because you say you are a change person, doesn't mean people will forgive you

I agree with you. He lost his focus. He always felt confused and tried to redeem his confidence with prostitutes. But he saved the Starks. He had hoped Robb would win and he could get a decent place, I think. But it became a disaster. I respect him for choosing Yara as thr Queen and convincing the masses of it. Not once but many times over and over again. Good that he abandoned the ship otherwise Yara wouldn't have been saved. He is truly a Stark and a Greyjoy. He has the goodness of both the sides.

@Super I get the feeling that Theon falling into the Starks hands was just an unfortunate result of the failed uprising. Robert being the bull-headed prick he pretty much was all the time, having it his way, Theon would've suffered a worse fate if Ned hadn't intervened and taken him as his "prisoner". The reality is that Ned simply gave Theon the best life he could without betraying Robert.

They ruined it if you know anything about Theon and like stories beyond bullshit fairytale storytelling. Theon's arc is about identity not redemption, because he truly didn't owe the Starks anything to be honest.

They didn’t ruin him as a show character but his story is shown through a completely different perspective in the books
