If the husband offered to pay, he probably knows or suspects that his wife stole the earrings.. especially if he is still friends with the plaintiff

If you have a roommate, or if you allow someone to live with you, make sure you valuable are locked up and you have a functional lock on the room where your valuable are located.

The defendants did do it, but the plaintiff just didn't have enough evidence for the judge to make them pay. I can tell it broke the plaintiff's heart her earrings were gone. Lesson is: Be careful who you be friends. People can know you for years and still betray you.

I had roommates who stole my cash, and it was obvious that it was them but I lost the case because I had no proof of the cash existing. It was a horrible situation. I couldn't kick them out without 30 days notice so they lived in my home and did nasty things to torture me on a daily basis. From that day forward (back in 2014) - never again! I live by myself. I had a relationship with John from 2015-2019. He lived at his house and I lived at mine, and even going inside each other's houses was extremely rare. He built a pool hall in his backyard and we hung out there. ❤RIP 12/12/19❤

They usually talk about a preponderance of the evidence… I don't know, there was a combination of them being in financial need, them being in her home, and the defendant knowing exactly where her jewelry was.

My best friend and I have been friends since kindergarten. We're 41 now. 36 years!!!! I'm not offering to pay for her stolen $3000 earrings if I didn't steal them. This lady is a bold faced liar!!! Smh...

Even though the plaintiff did not have sufficient evidence to prove her claim, I think it's highly probable that the mother of the son took those earrings The missing piece here is that we don't know how many people actually were in her house during the time that the earrings came up missing. The plaintiff mentioned that she had to spend time at her deceased grandmother's funeral so it's very possible that some friends of the defendant or the defendant's son stole the earrings. A 17 year relationship gone down the drain and this is very very sad.

Whenever somebody used the excuse “I have my own XXXX” as to why they didn’t steal something you can almost guarantee they did steal it.

Right from the start it was obvious the plaintiff would lose because being away from the home meant she had no way of proving who and when the earrings were stolen. That said, someone in the defendants' family stole the earrings. The husband tried to be honorable but his no-good mean wife wanted the drama.

I had what I thought was a good friend, who went into the place that I kept 3 rings that were very important to me, and she stole them. Even her daughters said she took them. But she denied it. The lady who was kind enough to let these thieves live with her is well rid of them, and I wouldn’t even speak to the husband at work because he knows his wife stole the earrings which makes him a thief too. Honestly, people who say oh I have this and that and it cost this etc. unless you can find someone who values jewlery or other items like you do and will pay your asking price. Pawn shops and even jewlery places aren't gonna give you even close to the price you paid. One of them took the earrings and thought because she was traveling and is forgetful, she would chalk it up to oh I ost them. It's really sad after how long they've veen friends.

In the 90's I moved in with my friend at her parent's house (rented spare bedroom) and later found out she was going into my room while I was at work and stealing my stuff. Only lived with them for 2 months. Listen to this...she had the nerve to wear my stolen watch months later. I saw it on her at a club that we both ended up at and realized it was her stealing my stuff. She did it because that's who she is ...a thief...she didn't do it because she's poor..she lives in a nice ranch house with plenty of land. She did it because she could. I hate thieves with every fiber of my being!

hypothetically even if she could prove that the defendance had stolen the earrings, the best she could do is to get back the depreciated value and if she couldn't prove they were $3000 and then the judge would have to do some rough justice but even if she had an 18-year-old receipt for $3000 for those earrings, they wouldn't be worth more than maybe a third of that 18 years later. They would be old and most likely tarnished and not worth what they were when they were purchased. I can't imagine how people spent that kind of money on earrings anyway. I wouldn't even spend $300 on earrings.

Wow they should've went to Judge mathis. A promise of a gift is different than a promise of a debt. Also admission of guilt should've been enough to prove them guilty. They proved her case for her. Even Judge saying the need has to be there. They had no where to stay had repos and in need of cash. That's a need. It just seems like she was thrown off at the amount of money wasted on earrings and furniture and just let that lead the outcome of the case.

This is triggering because 17 years ago someone stole my diamond ring while I was in the hospital having my son. In 2020, that damn thief had the audacity to ask his brother could he stay with us. I'm like bro are you old, stupid, lazy, and a thief?!?😮

I don't care how this case turns out. It was the defendant. She was even low enough to try to throw the blame on her son. Her husband knows it too because why would anybody from that side offer to pay a nickel if they had not stolen something. Sad they could've just asked and probably received way more help that way. Not like they not already getting help by living with them for probably hardly no rent.

I had a best friend that I discovered stole my walkman set (when they first came out) and a beautiful swimsuit I bought at Disney World. The only reason I found it was by doing laundry when I went to visit her 5 years later and the suit was in her laundry and the walkman, now 5 years out of date for this technology, was sitting in plain view on a coffee table in her living room. I left to go to the store for groceries, came back and both items were no longer to be found, or in plain view. I questioned her if she ever borrowed or took them and just forgot to tell me (incidentally at the time both items went missing were in highschool) She adamantly denied ever taking either item. It broke my heart but eventually I silently forgave her. We live in different cities and still talk from time to time. Through God's grace our friendship has endured; isn't the same but I still love her. I never mentioned it again. BUT, DIAMOND EARRINGS is a completely different item to just come up missing! Prayers for both ladies 🙏❤️

I think the defendant told her son where to look and he took them. The plaintiff was friends with the defendants husband first and i think there may be a little jealousy there based off of 1:49 when she said "she was like my sister in law" and the defendant rolled her eyes.
