I need to say this, Dr. Mike , I was well on my way to dying , I have been Lethargic for about 5 years and I am 50-year old, so ya , I'm an old guy but I pushed myself back to the gym and started watching your videos. I've been a natural bodybuilder on and off most of my life but absolutely lost everything in the last 5 or 6 years. I've been back to the gym for about a month and a half or so. I fallow a strict Diet and I take the right Supplements and I figured out what my max at an Exercise end I cut the weight in half, then I do 3 to four sets of 10 as slow and flawless as possible all the way to failure. My pumps are mind-blowing, and at my age, I never thought that was possible anymore. I just want to say thank you, and perhaps you saved my life, man

Brother thanks for all the knowledge you’ve given us you are one of my go to when I want to continue to learn how to maximize my results. I was 5’6” 278lbs around this time last year after nearly 7 yr layoff from working out after a CrossFit accident in my early 20s. I’ve now gotten to 205lbs by cutting and maintaining every few months when I’ve hit plateaus and that has allowed me to lose a ton of fat while also gaining a good amount of muscle mass and strength gains. My goal is get down to 175-185 and fill it out with muscle. Your home gym setup is one most lifters could only dream of. Congratulations on all your success bro.

I needed the COVID advice earlier this year. I tried doing home workouts when I was sick then going right back into my workouts after symptoms cleared up and wow I got SO MUCH worse. Strength, stamina, recovery ability, all shit. 1 workout even trying to take it easy left me deathly sore for 4 days minimum for weeeeeeks this went on and ended up just taking a break instead of feeling so ashamed in the gym. But I'm back and better than ever now 🥳🥳🥳

Dr Mike, speaking of active recovery, yoga is near to my heart, just something I love doing. I’ve learned so much from your vids as far as hypertrophy training, and it just makes yoga more fun when I do it, it’s so gratifying to engage the muscles and feel the hard work I’ve done. It’s a great stretch but yoga can be fucking brutally difficult too and challenging myself mentally in that arena is just really helpful for me, it has a positive trickle out effect for my life. Are there any benefits for choosing yoga over other practices for a persons health in general? In what ways does yoga train muscles differently than lifting for hypertrophy?

Intentionally seeking a mechanical disadvantage is the method of training that I developed in prison and called ' Sub-Optimal Position Training'. It worked extremely well for powerlifting. And I employed two rep schemes that I developed which use a strategy of doing an exercise with a degree of muscular fatigue then, over subsequent workouts, incrementally, reducing the degree of muscular fatigue under which the exercise is done to realize the stress gain from having done it with the greater amount. I use the Epley formula as my means of measurement. I created a highly advanced and effective system, but don't know how to realize any financial gain from it or even interest anyone.

1. Regarding quad targeting, is it fair to say that the rectus femoris is preferentially targeted by open-hip knee extension movements (e.g., standing leg extension, reverse Nordic)? 2. Have you ever looked into penile traction? It's a standard treatment for Peyronie's disease that has the side effect of increasing penile length, it's supported by some peer-reviewed literature 3. Dr Mike in his head before every set: "I feel great! I can win! I! can! do! this!" 4. Damn Scott is a Chad 5. Chances Slavic Boar is actually Kyriakos Grizzly? 6. Correlia (shipyard) or Kamino (cloning facility)? Assuming Kamino considering the aforementioned Chad factor, which is certainly present in the Fett genome

Im late to this, but i have an issue like that guy who asked about squats making bim super fatigued. For whatever reason, i have that issue with high bar squats. They wear me down more than deadlifts. For some bizzare reason (maybe my long ass femurs,) low bar squats have a higher SFR for me and they dont tire me out to exhaustion.

Some advice to the 37/yo 180cm guy trying to lose weight on OMAD 10 months too late. I'm 5'11"/216.7lbs going for the same weight doing a similar eating plan coming down from 290lbs and I am getting stronger. How? Gotta be Tren you gear junkie pig. No. I'd taken 15 years off from the gym and did nothing but calisthenics and put on all of the weight during he lockdowns, going from 185-190lbs all the way up to 295. I re-joined the gym on April 10th and was down to 261lbs at that point. I had been doing a 23:1 Intermittent Fasting plan and quickly found out that did not work with what I was doing. I go to the gym 3 days per week for 90-120 minutes, basically all weight training. I still Intermittent fast, but only no more OMAD. Day 1 is a 21:3 day, but pre-workout I have half an Orange and a Black Coffee with Stevia extract. I also have 3 giant gulps from a protein shake (about 10 grams of Whey Isolate.). After my workout I have another 1/3rd of a protein shake then go for a 3-7 mile walk. Then I have dinner, usually around 7-8PM. At least 30 grams of protein, usually closer to 50. Before bed I have yet another protein shake or a can of Tuna. On days after I go to the gym I break my fast after 16 hours with a Protein Shake, take my 3-7 mile walk, Dinner as usual and eat whatever I want that fits into my calories and macros for the day before going to bed between 11PM and 1am. I pretty much rinse and repeat that until Saturday and Sunday where I only do a 12:12 fast, eat 100-300 below maintenance, make sure I get at least 150 grams of protein spread out evenly 4 hours apart. Supplement-wise I take GNC Mega Men Essentials 50+ (No, I am not in my 50's but I liked the composition of the pills) with a 1000mg Omega 3. Sometimes I take a Beetroot pill with another Omega 3, sometimes I'll have a Bloom Greens Essential drink, it depends if I am feeling beat up or not. I don't have any _"Don't eat this"_ foods; I am not training for a show or a season so I am just using foods I know I can stick to forever. Granted, I am not having an entire large pizza or 5 servings of Ice Cream in one sitting either, but if I want blueberry bread or chocolate cream pie, well darnit I am having pie. Or bread. I'm sure a ton of this is newb gains as I can't see myself dropping 75+lbs in 6 months and not losing a crap ton of muscle under normal circumstances, but hey, may as well take advantage as long as I can. I am lifting a mix of heavy and light with every exercise save isolation where I typically get at least 6 reps. On something like the bench I use the safety rails in a cage so I can still go heavy (for me) without worrying too much about a tear. If I can't get it off my chest I know it is too heavy as opposed to un-racking, thinking I have it and *_pop._* I also warm up with a few sets of slow pushups, go at 70% of my 3 rep max to failure (usually 9-11) on my first set, then jump right to my 3 rep max or 5lbs higher if I did more than 3 reps the previous time at the gym...well I guess that would make it my 4-5 rep max. If I get 11+ on my first set that weight goes up by 1lb-3lb. On set 3 I drop to 20lb over my initial set to failure, then 10lbs under to failure, drop another 10 and do 3 more sets to failure (typically 9 reps, then 7, then 5 or 6.). That's just an example, and I am not going for maxes on deadlifts or squats. Too old and new to the gym atm for that. Maybe in 5 or 6 months when I am more confident in my form and I feel like my entire body is ready for it. Atm if I can't get 5 then I am not bothering with it for deads, squats, power clean etc.. Anyway, varying the sets between 2.5 reps and 15 reps seems to be training all the fiber types pretty well, and the most muscle intense cardio I do is play a game of basketball on occasion and use the elliptical for 11 minutes. The rest of my cardio is simply walking outside as I really want to keep as much muscle as possible. Hit a new back to the gym PR today on bench btw. Go me. Only 30lbs under my best bench 15 years ago when I was doing strength camps all over the country, and I got it for 2.75 reps but couldn't lock it. Tried for 3 but just couldn't quite get it so I had to ditch the arch and let the rails have it. _shrug_ It happens. Hope this helps someone, and if not, I just typed a novel for ego purposes. There are certainly worse ways to spend one's time. Like stubbing your toe or looking for the perfect green pepper at the Dollar Store.

I have done an upper/lower split for 3 years, just recently changed to push/pull/legs/upper/lower, let's see how it goes. I train mostly for strength, I did this change for a hypertrophy block, and I honestly kinda miss doing chinups on the push day, and I miss OHP in the pull day lol. When I go back to a strength block, I'll probably go back to U/L/U/L/U

I missed aswell, just wanted to ask if I have much better pump with 4-7 reps heavier weights than 8-20 reps lighter weight it means that I have more fast twitch fibers or why it is and if it means for me is better to train more often with heavier weights than lighter weights.

Hello guys i missed the Q&A and have a question i wish i was there to ask, maybe i can get some advice here : I have a weighted chin up national comp in 10 weeks , i train 3 times per week and put other muscles on maintenance, i planned on doing 4 weeks of a meso for hypertrophy for back and biceps 1 week deload 3 weeks for strenght 1 week peaking ( heavy doubles singles) and 1 week deload maybe with some technical work before the comp, do you think that is a nice way of arranging it? Do you have suggestions of improvement please? Thank you very much in advance
