For some reason I could not find a video for the Grimburg Gavle on accuracy so here it is head to head with the popular Byrna!

I own the Byrna, and a customer told me about this Gavel product. New to me, but here's what I have to say based based on my product research, target practice trials, and consideration for customers: 1) Power isn't everything. The Gavel seems to not have a consistent and quick reload. Under stress, reloading is can be messy. Especially in the dark. Best not miss those shots. The Byrna does have the means to do fast reloading. And it's CO2 tanks can last for over a dozen shots (more with the 12g tanks). Guns are not just about shooting, but also reloading. 2) I don't know how long the Gavel's CO2 supply can stay inside the gun on standby. The Umarex HDP and Byrna have designs that let you house the CO2 inside without puncturing them. Not to mention how consistent the shots are in FPS based on trials using a chronograph. If there is so much "power" in the first shot or two, you best not miss. Targets stay put; assailants move. 3) Make sure the projectiles you are using are adequate for the environment you are in. Projectiles that ricochet can end up hitting your eyes. Chances may be slim, but never assume they will be zero. Byrna's Kinetic rounds can bounce back. That's why I carry the chemical projectiles. Gavel's projectiles seem to be heavy, but I'd have to see them in person. I can't tell if they have a chance of bouncing back if you are close to dense wall or furniture. To each their own. Any protection is better than no protection at all. Make sure you practice because people with pepperspray, stun guns, tasers, air guns, less-lethal launchers, firearms, they just buy it and store it away. They have no idea how they work when they need it to possibly save their lives becuase they never invest time to practice. And to me, seeing that one gun penetrates cushion material over another matters little to me. Something flying at you at 300 FPS is not gonna tickle. Check your local laws because in this day in age self-defense rights is slowly dying in some areas. Be responsible, and be safe.

All very good points! Unfortunately with the Gavle you also need to rotate the C02 air cartridge to pierce prior to defending yourself and you cannot leave it charged longer than a few hours or risk blowing an 0-ring and for those reasons I also prefer carrying my Byrna with chemicals. Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback it’s always nice to hear others perspectives!

@@airgunnerreviews7888 I'll take my Gavle any day over the Byrna. The twist-to-pierce activation takes like 1 second, practically nothing once you get the feel for it. And the POWER of the Gavle is over 3 times that of the Byrna. With the latest upgrades to the o-rings shipping out, the Gavle is pushing around 39 joules. Having said this much, I do wish there was a better method to load projectiles into the Gavle. I personally think that Kurt ought to design the grip to where the projectiles can be pushed through some kind of slide-to-open hole in the grip, you know, and the spring/follower could just be pulled out of the way via some folding lever? That would be awesome. Still, firing 5 projectiles, be they kinetic or chemical, at full capacity at someone I would think enough. At close range, like in the case of some kind of confrontation, I believe Kurt when he states that FBI stats disclose that there are almost nil cases where a weapon has to be reloaded. So it's the Gavle for me. I want the raw power first and foremost.

I had a Gavle for one day before I sent it back. I unpacked it, fired it, and after four shots a seal failed. The people at Grimburg sent two extra seals knowing ahead of time these things fail so it was nice to have a fix on hand. I replaced the seal and popped off one shot and it failed. That was too bad. With the first four shots, they were thunderous and an eye-opening wow. then the buzz kill after shot number four when all the gas escaped.

That actually is one of the questions I have about the Gavel... Obviously its winter time and people are wearing heavy clothing/jackets. Will the Gavel be effective against attackers who are heavily dressed??
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 Год назад
That is my exact worry with the use of less lethal! I honestly think if you got a few good body shots with the Gavle this is capable of stopping an attacker even with heavy clothing. The only way the Byrna would stop someone is with the use of OC pepper but on a windy day you would be screwed! I’m going to take an old jacket and wrap it around a piece of sheet rock and unload 5 rounds with the Gavle just to see the damage! Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

In that case, you would have to make a face shoot if possible. But the injuries could be very serious. But not as serious as a gun shot to the face I guess!

Make a Grimburg Gavel, fix the O ring issue, make it six shot capacity, and ad the tap to release gas function that the Umerex has, and I would buy one. Wondering why Grimburg hasn't figured this out. If it's self defense then Grimburg should know the twist is to slow. So .. question is...what company wants to make money? Whoever comes up with above said features will be flooded with orders. Thank you. Oh yeah, one more thing. Make the Gavel magazine fed, easier to load.

I just ordered the Byrna LE. But Grimburg packs a punch, but I only discoverd it after I already made my order. But tell me, you have to screw in the Co2 cannister before you fire? That's awkward as hell?
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 9 месяцев назад
The Byrna LE is a wise choice and it is what I every day carry! The Gavle packs a huge punch if you have enough warning to screw the C02 to activate and you are right that is very awkward!

@@airgunnerreviews7888 Yes, it depends on the "tactical" situation. If you have to "draw from the drop" the Gavle won't work in that situation. If one carries the Gavle,they really have to have situational awareness" so as to "prep" the launcher to fire if needed in a developing situation. I do love the power of it though, and will have one in my arsenal at some point. Does it have a safety?
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 9 месяцев назад
No there is not a safety and once you charge the launcher it is best to immediately fire otherwise you risk blowing an 0-ring. The Gavle is unregulated so there is a lot of pressure to hold back and mine blew them constantly, hopefully this has been corrected in the newest version!

@MultiSkyman1
@MultiSkyman1 6 месяцев назад
Well, I just received my Gavle. Wow, it's beefy! built like a Tiger tank. I think after running out of ammo, you could crack an attacker over the head with it. And you could sure feel the weight difference between the Grimburg 8G projectiles vs. the Byrna 3G projectiles. It was shipped with the fat 16G Co2 cartridges now. It feels different in the hand than my Byrna LE. The LE grip is a bit longer so my pinky finger has a resting spot. Loading it was a bit tricky when compressing the spring as I had it go flying a few times while loading it. I have neighbor issues too, so I only fired it once, and boy it was pretty loud! I guarantee, if you had to fire it near some bystanders, they would scatter and hit the ground, but that means the bad guy may run too, or think it was a gun and shoot back! Oh well!. Now I need to find the right situation to really get some range time with it. For some reason the thing really fascinates me more than the LE, and will be my carry launcher going forward. I do think there are maintenance requirements that I need to keep up with too. Anyway.......

Hi, I'm new to self defense home weapons and so went on Google to do some research and came across your video. As a first yime purchaser of a home defense gun (woth no knowledge or practice with a gun but willing to learn) what would u recommend??? I read through all the comments here under your video but still unsure. Would love your feedback or anyone who sees this please. I have an aggressive neighbor who keeps threatening myself and my toddler. She came up to our apartment twice already. Tried to get help from the court on filing a harassment paper but was denied sadly. The system just isn't what it used to be so that leaves me with the only option to take matters in to my own hands. Sorry for the long detes but wanted to share my situation to maybe help u help me figure out which home defense gun would work best. I don't want to kill anyone (why i dont want a real gun cuz things can go left instantly) just a "back off" weapon with no permanent damage. Thank you! God Bless!

The Gavle in this video is to powerful and can cause severe bodily damage to a person especially at close range! I would recommend either the Salt S2 or the Byrna SD. The Salt offers more power than the Byrna for 1/2 the price but it is long and heavy and you need to strike the bottom of the handle with your opposite hand or against a blunt object such as a table etc. to engage the C02 which means this can take valuable time if not prepared for an attack. The Byrna SD is light and compact and can be concealed carry for personal protection and although less power all you need to do is pull the trigger to fire a projectile. Here is a link to both, good luck! byrna.com/ www.saltsupply.com/products/s2-pepper-spray-gun

@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 10 месяцев назад
Yes it does get freaking cold here! I owned the original Gavle and it was plagued with problems! They are unregulated so it dumps all the power in 5 shots and there were a lot of complaints of the 0-ring blowing and mine also had a problem with the firing bolt not resetting after the last shot so after a few send backs I gave it back to Grimburg. I also couldn’t find a cheaper source for the same size threaded C02 cartridges as they are expensive and only last for one 5 shot round. I’m hoping all these issues have been corrected with the 1.5 version but not enough reviews for me to jump back on board. These definitely have a lot of stopping power but you have to foresee trouble ahead since it requires both hands to activate unlike the Byrna and once you break the C02 seal on the Gavle it must be used immediately or you risk blowing the 0-ring.

I actually do not have a favorite as of yet!
