Byrna finally replaced the LE with a new one but it failed (blew the seal) within 2 days, sent back for repairs but power is not consistent. Reached back out to Byrna and they said it passed all their tests and is in working order. There is about a 100 FPS drop after the first shot!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 have you sho them that it's all under 100 now after all that? I was asking because I was between the S2 and the LE Something quick and small. Grimburg Solstice is not out with thier 2025 model yet 🙏🏼🥲
For the huge price Byrna charges, they should swap defective launchers for new ones. Cant believe they dont test fire launchers repaired under warranty. As a Hoosier I can confidently state you should expect better from an Indiana manufacturer. The German Umarex HDP 50 is very similar for 80% less. It will require easy modification to reach the same power as the LE.
Hi there! I agree the HDP50 modified is awesome as is the HDR50! Fortunately Byrna has awesome customer service and after sending the LE out for the 2nd time they are giving me a full replacement and I was able to extend the warranty for another 2 years for $30.00 so I am pretty satisfied at the moment! I will definitely be posting another update, thanks for watching!
Glad you got your LE back! The internals on the LE is totally different than the SD / EP. I suppose they fixed it for reliability but in exchange the muzzle energy is less. Its only a matter of time before something like this happens.
Yes the LE is more reliable but the takeaway is it offers the same 7 shot average as the SD! So Byrna only played with the numbers so the LE starts off with two power shots and quickly lowers. Shot 7 with the LE is 229 fps, shot 7 with the SD is 257! When you consider the SD is only using an 8 gram C02 the numbers look terrible for the LE!

I still think the LE is worth it since it does normally offer more power and a much lighter trigger pull. If you don’t already have one it is a good idea to get a chronograph to test the fps. I purchased my LE last February and just purchased the extended warranty to cover it for the next 2 years!
On paper the LE out performs the SD on many fronts - power, trigger pull, standard C02 to name a few, but on the other hand the SD has a solid reputation, very consistent FPS, easier to conceal, lighter, fits a light/laser directly in front of trigger and looks more realistic. In a critical situation a face shot will end the threat with either launcher and I’m not sure if the LE would stop an attacker with the extra power if they are wearing a heavy jacket. I don’t use either of these for home defense but if I needed to the LE would be a better choice. The SD fits into the inside pocket of my Carhartt jacket which is a plus in certain circumstances when my shirt has to be tucked in for a meeting. Unfortunately no matter which one you purchase you are losing important features!
Second video I see this weekend on issues with the le after repair coming back weak, I really hope not I received mine 2weeks ago and have not shot it I guess I better some rounds thru this thing real soon
It may be a good time to invest in a chronograph! I would be willing to gamble they have powered down your LE to keep down the number of repairs, unfortunately by doing so it offers the same average FPS as the SD.
I sure hope they are not detuning these without telling anyone. You are not the first that has seen this trend after a repair. I finally blew an oring in my SD today looking for the upper limit. I havent open that guy in a while and it took much abuse before this most recent issue. Hard to argue the SD is more reliable. Hope they get you fixed up right.
Knowing how you are I’m sure you will find a stronger 0ring and have that baby shooting with much higher FPS! The SD model is a solid performer for sure! I will definitely be pointing out to Byrna that the average fps of 264 based on 7 shots is not satisfactory and is below the standards for the SD.
Hopefully I won’t need to send back that many times! I will be including my before and after test results and ask them to chronograph before shipping back in an effort to save my sanity 😂. Thanks for dropping by!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 Well they're going to do that anyway at least they're going to tell you that The second time I got my back they even sent me videos. My best advice would be do what I did and when you get it back open it and test it on camera so that there's no question.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 I sent my Gavle back because the trigger was too stiff to pull. Got it back, same issue. Not sure what to with it now. I also have the S2. Well, took it out the other day to shoot(only have maybe 100 rounds through it) and the piercing cap leaks! They are sending me a new one. Also have the LE which is in working order for now I guess. Now I cant trust any of them! Did I mention I also have the HDR .50 and .68 which are great fun and can shoot all kinds of projectiles, and have worked fine, but are too bulky for EDC. Back to pepper spray I guess.
