This stage is one of the best backgrounds I've ever seen in a game, holy. Also Asuka looks actually insane. This is some Dragon Quest Hero in Smash type stuff. Glad to see he's delivering on the decades long hype though

He gives final boss vibes with his design and the big block attacks which is appropriate I guess. He also seems to have a lot of unique mechanics going on so I'm intrigued to see what all that means.

Why do I feel like his boss form would be him doing all these moves with no restrictions or health drain.

As far as I can tell, this is what's happening. You have 4 spell slots that fill up w diff spells, im guessing corresponding to each button so casting the one in the first slot would be something like quarter circle punch, second is kick, etc. and consumes the spell. He can refill his slots with the move where he pulls cards from the book or swap his currently filled slots for new spells with the cards swapping places move, consuming some of his magic meter in exchange, one of his supers instantly refills his spell slots while the other one lets him swap out whichever spells he wants? (less sure there). He seems to also be able to refill his spell meter in 2 ways, either by trading health for a small amount with the red glow move or gaining 10 full bars (up to 30) with the blue flash, which I'm really not sure what that requires. He also has that blue glow on his health bar which I'm still trying to figure out. Some spells are obvious like cube throw and teleport, I think the totem pole adds some lightning effects to any spells that pass it which maybe increases damage or something? Over all, what an insanely complicated character, he will either be fun af or create happy chaos levels of frustration. I'm excited either way. Feel free to add anything else you notice or I missed.

Finally, they added a Blazblue character to Strive.

Asuka is out here playing Touhou Soku with all of those spellcards and projectiles. Super excited to try him

The funniest part is that he seems to work exactly like a DND wizard, with the spell slots and all of that

A zoner with teleport ability and pretty good short range defense. Also why his resource is dropping instead of increasing? Dose it means he will eventually run out of dice?

Some observations: 1. The staff that increases projectile speed also appears to give you more frame advantage on block, Gio has a guard crush animation blocking Asuka's projectile spells while the projectile speed staff is in play. 2. Most if not all of the projectile spells appear to be destructible by enemy attacks. (and they can cancel their normals when hitting a projectile as if they hit a character) 3. You appear to be in counter-hit state for the entirety of the bookmark animation, even after the spell is added to your bookmark bar. I wonder if this is true for the mana-regain move and the test case swap move. 4. Changing your test case does not remove the spells you currently have prepared, makes me wonder if there are any neat synergies between some test cases exclusive spells. 5. Chaotic Option, the red spell that changes into a random powerful spell I've so far seen turn into the low hitting spell (terra metron), overhead hitting spell (accipiter metron), and the spell that fires 5 metrons in a fan and after a delay fires 5 more. I can't figure out the purple spell that shoots a number of fireballs, when its first drawn it starts at 1 and the number ticks up over time, but the next time its drawn in these matches it starts at 5 and begins ticking down, makes me think it just slowly builds to 5 and slowly falls back down to 1 while it remains in your hand (and remembers where it left off for next time you draw it). But that does seem a little odd.

He's finally here!!! My thoughts (A LOT) : I love that the coat That Man always wears became a cape for the almighty Asuka. Animations absolute fire!!! This is GG's first DnD looking soceror, and they captured it in their own unique way! YOO he looks complicated AF (which makes A LOT of sense) 26 different spells?!?! Health drain?!?! The bottom left corner looking like a periodic table This is random, but I love that Asuka is the flip side of Happy Chaos. Asuka Straight forward character Chaotic weapon/magic HC Chaotic character Straight forward weapon (chooses gun because fun 😂) Also: NINE

4:42 Mana bar get's emptied via hit, Magic Barrier on health bar is gone, proceeds to take massive damage, watch how much that normal throw does after, and that's low on the health bar with guts.

So, he has multiple spells but can only use 4 and can has to wait until the empty slot gets refill by another spell. And the purple bar allows him to use his spell and if it goes empty it drains his own health bar to refill it. That is what I got. I still don't know why the bar changes color or what that number on the left of the bar is.

Honestly I’m happy GGST is going full anime as we get deeper into the game. Season 1 was a great stand in for those of us tired as frick from street fighter V and when it dropped ggst had rooster that felt more parallel to a SF but better in every way. Season 2 we’re craving for some weird cool stuff and Arc delivers… we’ll all be so happy that this game is so wonderful, weird, and deep characters when we’re all exhausted from drive rushes and heat systems. I hope this direction continues!!!

I hope he doesn’t end up like happy chaos, where his strange mechanics and resource management makes him seem hard but then after a couple days there’s an easy setup to almost completely mitigate this and he just constantly zones you out easily
