Here is a look at how I constructed my isolation boxes in the basement which hold all my speakers. Someone asked me to give some instructions on how to build your own and in this video you can see all the details. I hope this helps !

Hi HP, good stuff on your channel! Keep up the good work, man... do you think the IRs are as real as the iso cabs? Or even "more real"? Do they react like the iso box with the different instruments you demo? I have a kemper for quick studio works and I would love to add a quiter solution for my tube amps, so I can demo pedals, pickups... with a setup similar to most of the people: like a tube amp, common speaker, sm57. Do you think IRs can be a good substitute and a good fit for my purpose? Thanks a lot!!

Thanks HP, sadly noone of us has the room for so much amps and boxes, but yeah, it's nice to see, what could be if. I like everything there, but I don't like those hinges and how hard it is to open them. Also, this was the first video mentioning that the amps get hot in there. And I didn't see how you switch on/off the amps. Lot of amps have even two switches to get the amp on. Wouldn't there be a smaller service window a good way to deal with both problems? Heat can go out easily and the small window allows you to quickly switch the amp on and off. I don't know if there's an even cooler solution like a small gadget that switch the switches for you and maybe track the temperature of the inside. Do you know anything about that?
@EytschPi42

I don't have amps in there anymore... that was in the past... when I filmed that video it was just cabs. I wouldn't recommend putting amps in the boxes as well... so not really suited well for combos.

Thanks for this great, instructive video. I have recently build my isolation cab (for 1X12 speaker) and I am looking for smaller mic stands to fit SM57 and a ribbon mic inside the cab. I do not have much space left inside, what would be your suggestion for a tiny durable mic stand? Thanks a lot!

You can buy sm57’s that have a 90° angle on them. That will save some space. Also check out the 906 and 609 mics from Sennhessier. reverb.com/item/1992214-shure-sm57-transformerless-and-granelli-mod?

I live in a ground-floor apartment. I just bought a Morgan MVP23 with the power scaling. I set the volume and gain to ~ 2 o'clock and the power scaling to 0. It sounds AMAZING, but it's too loud. If I build an open top sound box with acoustical foam and plywood, will that muffle the sound enough or will the sound escape through the top? Will the acoustic foam attenuate the high frequencies? I don't want to spend the money and build a box if it won't work. Any advice appreciated.
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 2 года назад
I don’t think that will sound good. Even if it is quieter, it will be dull sounding. I would recommend getting a Fryette Power Station or a Tone King Ironman.

Hi EytschPi42 ,great organization!!!! I've seen You have a flat mic in one of your isobox (something like Sennheiser E609 or 906 model) mounted on a stand....why You don't put simply on the cabinet,some particular reason?

Does the limited space effect the sound since it is compressed and there is air inside the box trying to move that is trapped? That doesn't stop any speaker movement?
@jamesmelton7637
@jamesmelton7637 4 года назад
You should not isolate the front of the speaker from the rear. That way air is relatively free to move inside the box. So no that’s not a problem.

Hi HP, Coffins for Dracula? Great ISO Boxes... I would love to have these at home. Do you have a good advice for one for the amateur? Maybe for a premanufactured one? Thanks. PK
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 8 лет назад
+phko0001 Building one is relatively easy. Randall offers a remade Iso Cab, Jet City does as well.... a dutch company makes one called BOX OF DOOM or something, but really pricey...

Question: I understand the benefits of miking a speaker cabinet inside a contained isolation box, but what is the different sound result/s from close miking a speaker cabinet in a bigger isolation room? Does the limited air space in a smaller isolation box effect the way it sounds when recording?
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 10 лет назад
Hi Brent, there is no difference. Once in an iso cab, the actual speaker enclosure and the sound attributes it contributes to the overall sound don't really matter. Miking in a good sounding room, if you have one, is always a better idea, but the volume is a problem for most of us. The big iso box is merely for bigger speakers, so if someone brings in a 4X12, I can still mike it in a box...
@Salantsoundstudios
@Salantsoundstudios 10 лет назад
Awesome way to do it, so what exactly is your patchbay used for?
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 10 лет назад
The Microphones arrive at the patch bay.... the multicore in the iso cab room arrives in the studio at the patch bay and that is where I can chose which speaker goes into which mic preamp...

Those boxes are very nice looking and you did nice job. However IMO they do not isolate that well. Acoustic foam is not very good for soundproofing. Insulation used for fire and soundproofing in walls is much more dense and thicker. I have a 4x12 cab in a homemade iso box with Marshall head cranked to 3oclock and it is quieter than yours. Just an observation. Cheers
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 8 лет назад
Yes, the foam isn't meant to make it quieter, just reduce reflections inside the box... the heaviness of the wood is what makes it quieter... the heavier it is, the more it absorbes the sound... but since they are in the basement, it is more than enough!

if i get a deville hot rod 212, could i just make a small single iso cab, and could i just keep the volume low rather than construct one?
@henningpauly8806
@henningpauly8806 10 лет назад
Hi, the amps are in the other room. These are just the speakers. A 2x12 hot rod won't fit in the small one. Just build yourself one that fits, but open it regularly to let the amps cool down. Just playing softly won't work. A tube amp needs volume... You need to drive the tubes.

Can you please drop a comment about the size of the speaker cables? I've heard that you must use short cables between the cab and the amp to avoid damaging the amp, but you are obviously using very long speaker cables. Any regular speaker cables would do the job or special cables must be used to compensate for the longer length? Thanks in advance.
@EytschPi42
@EytschPi42 10 лет назад
I never heard about long cables being and for the amp. My cables are very thick and very high quality. a look at PA systems, they have extremely long cables... I haven't had any problems!
@BoboButYouCanCallMeTom
@BoboButYouCanCallMeTom 5 лет назад
Won't damage anything but thick cables are always better for long lengths a rule of thumb the speaker cable resistance should be about 5% or less of the speaker impedance. The thicker the wire the less resistance. It still won't damage anything have a cable with more then 5% resistance but it will just start to sound worse and worse.

With your iso cabs in the basement does weather effect the sound? I want to build one for my garage or attic but I am worried extreme cold or hot temperature would affect it. What about moisture in the basement?

tell me , does guitar speakers heat up ? if you play lots of hours , like 8 hours . Is there any chance that foam will set fire if you play all day with guitar cab inside foam box???
@eternalism8274
@eternalism8274 3 года назад
i doubt that the overall spk heats up, just the coil, i havent noticed any tangible heat buildup on frame, magnet, or air temp. coil blew, thats all. With 100W, would expect tangible heat buildup, but in practice, its more like 10W sporadic, not 100w continuous.

Big setup. Maybe a bit of video editing is in order (no one really wants to see you shouting at your dog). Audio demonstration of loudness does not work when a RU-vid video is heavily compressed. There’s no point comparing the open and closed sounds when we will not hear the difference in volume.

nonideal but still valuable, to give an impression... at least for me since ive watched some correctly done vids, plus my own r&d. im glad he demo'd that, even if not correctly.
