Oh wow!! I guess I don't really have any way of proving it to you through RU-vid but did you know that today is my literal birthday? I'm not making that up. Give me a phone number and I'll send you a picture of my ID! Best birthday present ever!!🤙🤙
This is also my favorite song by Tyler and today happens to be my birthday as well! Best gift ever. Michael is awesome for doing these videos with so much passion. He seriously makes me love songs that I already loved.
This was the first Childers song I was introduced to and immediately fell in love and listened to every other song! Special place in my heart for Feathered Indians 🖤
"This is a hit. I feel like I've heard this before." Yes sir, that's how you know it's a hit. The good ones always sound like you've heard them 100 times, even on a first listen.
I was introduced by hearing Whitehouse Road a couple years ago and now Feathered Indians is my favorite. I’ll have to check the channel but I always pare grindstone, Whitehouse road, and Indians with Sturgill Simpson’s video “you can have the crown/ some days” that he did at sun king brewery’s. Same outlaw vibe. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tNV16tz1NK0.html
Dude. Michael. PLEASE do a reaction video to Tyler’s “Follow You To Virgie” from the Red Barn session. First song that brought tears to my eyes in like...I don’t know...25 years? Amazing. I’m sure there have been other comments about this song but needed to add my vote for this one. Love the channel and your musical and emotional insights.
That was my first song, too. Completely caught me off guard with everything about it. His voice obviously, but the way he used it to deliver so much emotion in a simple format. I was hooked.
Dude please listen to “Keep the Wolves Away” by Uncle Lucius! It’s a great song about the struggles of the blue collar working man. Great imagery and story telling, you would love it! Also, you’ve gained a faithful subscriber with the Tyler/Colter series. Looking forward to more videos!
@@ohitstarunntarun9828 Man, your terrible Little Wing cover doesn't deserve to get views. If people wanted to watch it, you wouldn't have to deceive them into doing so.
The high wall is the cliff over looking a coal pit. They fill up with water after mining is done. Coal runs through the veins of Eastern Kentuckians. The economy was based on coal from the early 1800s through the mid 1900s. Most people went poor after the industry left. Tyler sings a lot about coal. Also KY is covered in clay. You can't dig a foot without hitting clay.
In this lyric, I bet he's referring to the "high wall" as in the type of coal mining. Typical coal is mined in "long wall" or "high wall". In Kentucky, there is a good bit of high wall and that's where he's from and where I live.
Might be the levee for the Big Sandy River since the next line mentions the river. “Take my troubles to the high wall, throw them in the river and get yer fill”.
This really is an outstanding song. I'm in the mountains of East Tennessee and this song is a lot more relatable than coasties and city folk might realize.
Oh trust me in from a city on the coast in the north east, however true that i dont fit into the norm here at all, this song is incredibly relatable and a solid feel
I’m from virgie and that’s where he’s singing about but it’s everywhere just seems like he’s singing to me cause I know where the hollers are in his song haha. He used to work at sears as delivery guy and he’d swing by white house road and get some blow haha
Tyler has said that he is singing about a place which is Eastern Kentucky. Being from Kentucky I understand the meaning of the words he uses but when I watch these reactions he hits a word in this instance HIGH Wall and I see a little look on your face like what's a high wall so I thought I would explain a high wall is a precipitous cliff that is left when strip mining coal and they reach the upper boundary of a property. It's like taking a 100 foot slice out of the side of the mountain. It's also a good or maybe even a bad place to go sit and think about things such as Take my troubles to the high wall
What really makes tyler great? He's authentic. He worked at the mill near my hometown. The poverty rate at the school my wife taught at there in wv was 96%. The mill pays minimum wage flat. He knows the struggle.
I always love the line “lawmen, women, or a shallow grave, same old blues just a different day” this dude is the truth man. So many good signs. Universal Sound is a favorite of mine and my wife’s. Keep up the good work boss!
I hated that he missed that part. Not gonna lie. And I think he was talking more about touring when he says, run these roads. Living that fast life. Also buddies up at White House road that keep him strutting when his feet hang low are his drug dealers 🤌🏼
Hey micheal could you do lady May by Tyler Childers it was my best friends favorite song before he died in a tragic shooting accident almost 2 years ago he was only 20 years old but lady may in my opinion is the best showcase of Tyler Childers song writing ability he uses so many analogy’s and you really have to listen to understand the depth of the song and I think you would love it thanks man!
Tyler’s song writing and emotion in in his music is some of the best there’s been in decades. My personal pick would be Hard Times from the red barn radio recording. Some of his best story telling to date imo.
I'm from Kentucky but live in West Virginia and when I visit family I go by White House Road on rt 23 and every time I see that Sign I turn this song on.. :)
I'm a huge fan of your channel brother, and I can't even play the guitar. I come from a family of self taught musicians. My great grandfather, Willie T Narmour(Narmour & Smith) played fiddle during The Great Depression era and he introduced his neighbor, Mississippi John Hurt, to an Okeh Records producer. Rest is history. I'm 53 and can sing...my little brother was a great musician...we used to stay up until daylight playing and singing...he would take country music requests from me and pick the songs out in a few minutes by ear just like you...it was wild... he was killed in a car accident in 2008. One of his favorite songs was "Change" by Blind Melon among many...he also loved The Meters..."Pocky Way".. would you please honor Chris Narmour and review one or both of these songs? Much respect and love..Mark
I would be very grateful for a reaction to Benjamin Tod "using again" -It's a song I know is very important to me and many other people and I think you would appreciate from a writing perspective. I truly believe that both Ben and that song are something special.
*last video is why I came back. Tyler Childers and Colter Wall have awakened my numb, empty soul. I lost my 21 year old son in August and it’s amazing to actually FEEL something again. My son loved The devil makes three...which brought me back here. 6 years vocals. Had a son who played by ear, I was so jealous!! Lol
"Life is shit if it aint shared." Damn that's a good quote. I was actually surprised that this video caught me attention the whole time. I will be watching more! Thanks man!
GOOSEBUMPS!!! I've been listening to Tyler Childers for 3-4 years, but this breakdown of the song and soloing on top was just fenomenal. Thank you. Subscribed!
Man I’m disappointed that I’m just finding you!! Love Tyler and you didn’t know that my soul smiles to hear someone just create a lead ride like that on the spot, amazing, thank you sir!
Please, please do not ever stop emotionally reacting to the music! Your analysis is superb, but the fun in watching these comes from seeing your blown away reaction to our favorite artists!
When they dug out the strip mines they created vertical slopes in the hills that are between 40 and a hundred feet. A high wall is a cliff usually over a pond stream or river
The only high walls I've heard of are around the coal mines dotted throughout Appalachia, I can't remember the purpose of them but his use of things like that, the things that a lot of us people in the mountains can relate to make him appeal to us so much.
@@nathanphipps2312 He wrote the song about the hell he raised when he was younger in coal country - there's a video somewhere of him talking about it. The area he grew up in (same as myself) is covered with highwalls, or the rock faces of coal mines. If you are from that area and talk about a highwall, you're talking about an old mine site.
I whole heartedly agree with the requester from your video! I wish I had seen you sooner! You honestly can’t go wrong with ANY Tyler Childers! HOWEVER, if there was one song of his that is emotion moving, something that every person can relate to, a well written story, great tunes AND a voice to send the message. Follow You to Virgie- Tyler Childers
"Same old blues, just a different day" in reference to the hymns sung at his funeral. That line always stuck with me. An internal truth that can be looked at in many ways. Most might see it as sad and depressing. I see it as freeing, a weight off my chest if you will. The human mind is a beautiful thing, strong and always allowing you to survive through whatever. The pain will be forgotten soon enough and life will move on.
You should check out John moreland- “you don’t care for me enough to cry”. His guitar work is not the most flashy or impressive but his musicianship is incredible
Sat front row at one of his shows. His guitar style prices his bravery and you won't find another writer anywhere that writes with the emotion and depth that Moreland does.
Coltor Wall and Tyler Childers are two of my three favorite artists of this generations country music. So glad you like them! You need to hear Randall King - Mirror Mirror you will love this guy. Hope you see this!! Keep this up regardless man I’m lovin it!!!
from eastern kentucky here, personally met tyler on our motorcycles one late night and hes a real fella, white house road is actually a real place haha, and also really appreciate your knowledge of music, i play 6 instruments myself and i already feel smarter after one vid.
I'd love to see your breakdown of the Game of Thrones, "jam I guess", with Tom Morello, Scott Ian, Nuno Bettencourt, Brad Paisley, and Game Of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi.
Whitehouse road introduced me to Tyler, Nose on the Grindstone addicted me. Feathered Indians, Tattoos, Country Squire, and All Your'n keep me coming back.
I have always loved the sound of a guitar. Fron acoustic to electric to steel. I have also really wanted to learn how to play. But nowadays its hard to play being im in the military and i love music. I have a 1tb harddrive full of music from any genre. Tyler childers as well. Your a good man. Seem really down to earth and calm. Rock on
I LOVE your reviews. Especially when you do Childers. You should definitely do a video reacting to his 3rd and final OurVinyl session. It’s arguably one of my favorite songs of his. It’s a song he wrote about his friends grandma. Would love to see your reaction! Tyler Childers - Follow You to Virgie ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-udNmEEfCcUM.html
I agree on the song, but suggest the red barn radio session video. Where he gives the background of writing the song. Check it out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vFL5QcYDnmw.html
From a fellow guitar player I absolutely love the format of your channel. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that sits there and picks on the guitar while listening to music. Might have to look into your products when I have more money.
Love this. Thank you. Cant drop a link but could you do John Moreland, you don't care for me enough to cry. Or I need you to tell me who I am. Great songwriter. Thx
I love your content. It’s just so freaking good. I found you while me and my dad where watching tyler in RU-vid and you have the best reactions ever. They’re just so raw and so good and you’re just so straight up. Keep it up you’re amazing!!
That is true, however it is also a reference to "floodwalls" which are prevalent in his area of Eastern Kentucky wherenthe Ohio, Big Sandy, and Tug rivers will leave their banks forcing residents of populated areas to erect floodwalls.
Hey Michael, I love the passion you show for music and being so, could I recommend a video for you to react to. It’s a street performance by two UK artists; Ren and Sam Tompkins, covering some classi soul pieces. I just think the singing and guitar alike are filled with love for music, and it’s quite unique so good to react to. I can drop the link below.
I love ren and Sam and not many people have reacted to them. Side note: didn’t think I’d find two fans of UK artists which aren’t as well known. It’s nice to see
Michael, your passion and love for this is so inspiring. Love this channel so much, and very much what I need in my life right now. Love you and the viewers turning me on to so much good music. I’ve listened to Cornell ‘77 five times since Friday. Such good stuff. I knew Colter Wall, saw him for my wife’s birthday last year, May 22 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. Just really love what you are doing with the channel.
Please react to, “Sometimes Wine” by Sturgill Simpson and Sunday Valley. He showcases some pretty solid stuff on his homemade made from complete scratch Telecaster he built by hand.
Love your passion about the lyrics and knowledge about the progressions. When I heard this song and every other one of his songs they hit me the same way.
I usually hate reaction videos but I can't help but watch your videos when I see one. Your reactions seem so genuine and it's nice to see someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
This song has been one me and my brother sing till the sun comes up! You my sir are phenomenal at capturing the emotions of Tyler Childers and Colter Wall. Those have been my favorite videos of yours. It’s good to see an appreciation from someone not of the rough American class. You are a poet my friend. The way you voice the emotion to these songs! My goodness man you are just phenomenal
Love watch these reaction videos and seeing your passion come through, especially with killer songs like this!!! If there’s anything I’ve found that broadens my exposure to different genres and era of music, it’s watching these videos. Keep up the great work Mick ;)
Saw Tyler live last winter in philly. What a performance, it was honestly the best live show I’ve ever seen. The passion he has for this is insane, he gives it his all for the whole damn show.
A “high wall” is a cut through the mountains. It could be for a highway or a strip mine. It’s the high, man-made cliff. “Ain’t nuthin better than to run these roads”....In Eastern Kentucky where there is nothing much to do as a teen, the primary entertainment is to jump in your buddies car with several friends and drive the backroads, listening to music and just having fun together. There is usually drinking and other things involved. It’s hard to understand exactly what this song means to anyone outside of EKY...but every line and every single word that you may not understand speaks to us and perfectly describes our very lives. Tyler is our Bob Dillon. He’s our storyteller and through him our story gets told.
Honest to god i feel pure bliss listening to Tyler Childers while I'm out riding my motorcycle something about it just gives you a certain type of calm high
