LIFE AFTER THE 30-DAY CAFFEINE DETOX
The energizing effects of the first cup of regular coffee were incredible. However, the super-energising effects of morning coffee only lasted a day or two, after which I was back on my caffeinated baseline. The caffeine detox helped me to reduce my caffeine intake:: now I only have one cup of coffee in the morning. The disappointing thing is that I still haven’t been able to quit caffeine completely.
HOW TO AVOID BLOATING
Digestive issues and bloating are very common. Some bloating is normal especially after eating or due to hormonal changes. Sometimes bloating can be due to medical conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food intolerances, hormonal imbalances, eating disorders, or celiac disease. The major reason for bloating is gas. The gas can come from swallowing air, or it can happen if you don’t digest certain foods properly. How well we digest foods depends on our digestive enzymes and on the bacteria in the gut.
So here are ideas that may help to reduce bloating:
AVOID GAS CAUSING FOODS
Certain foods like beans and vegetables in the cabbage family can cause bloating. The same things can happen if you have a food intolerance, for instance if you don’t tolerate dairy products, gluten, wheat, or any other food.
EAT YOUR FRUITS FULLY RIPE
Always make sure you eat ripe fruits. When fruits are not ripe, they are hard to digest. Fruits should be eaten on an empty stomach. Fruit has the highest water content of any of the food groups and fruit breaks down the fastest in your system. If you eat heavier foods that take long to digest right before your fruit, the fruit will sit on top of these heavier foods and ferment and lead to gas.
AVOID EXCESS SALT
Very salty food can cause bloating. This is because high sodium foods can promote water retention.
PROBIOTICS
Eating probiotic foods or adding a good quality supplement can be very helpful if you struggle with your gut health. Fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut or apple cider vinegar can help to create a healthier ecosystem in your gut.
AVOID SWALLOWING TOO MUCH AIR
Things like carbonated beverages, drinking through a straw, eating in a hurry or chewing gum can cause issues.
DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Make sure you move your body daily. Lack of physical movement is probably one of the most common reasons for bloating and stomach problems. Even gentle stretching after a long day can help to reduce bloating and release extra stress that you are carrying
YOGA POSES to reduce bloating
Boat Pose (Navasana)
Bow Pose (Dhanurasana)
Half Spinal Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana)
Knees-to-Chest Pose (Apanasana)
Shoulderstand (Salamba Sarvangasana)
EAT SLOWLY & MINDFULLY
The way we eat and how we treat ourselves are as important as what we eat. If we constantly shame and hate our bodies, we create a perfect environment for chronic stress which can absolutely sabotage our health. When we have self-compassion and self-acceptance we can let go of most of the chronic stress, breathe more fully and also digest our foods better
