@@Bringon-dw8dx in the USA if your company has over 50 ppl and you’ve worked their 6 months full time you can get up to 6 months off for medical leave I think, but none of it is paid unless your workplace has a generous maternity policy, which my experience was that you had to use your vacation and sick leave and that doesn’t cover usually more than 4-6 weeks. It depends on the employer.

Parental leave isn't only recovering from the birth. It's getting to know this new human that will be a part of your family forever. This applies to families who adopt as well.

Well, that's a doctor focussing on the important parts of his area of expertise for ya.

The story I heard was where a doctor was putting a couple of stitches in after the woman had given birth. The woman asked him if he had always wanted to be a doctor. He replied that he originally thought of being a dentist but decided he didn't fancy having to stare into people's mouths. Apparently it took several minutes before they both stopped laughing enough for him to carry on.

Could you please elaborate; this sounds absolutely horrible. My mother had to get the Mirena device because she was bleeding so severely and apparently she had endo. I was very young so I don't fully remember everything but I do remember how sick she was before getting the device. It was a hard thing to witness.

I know most Americans are frustrated with the quality of their private health insurance (I sure am) and it gets more expensive each year. Politicians always complain about the “cost” of social healthcare policy, and say that we don’t want the government managing or making choices about our health, which we know is a bs answer.

It blows my mind that someone who's job it is to deliver babies thinks 2 weeks is plenty of time off. Like even if you had a relatively easy time of it physically... um... you have this whole new human to care for... and it's hugely beneficial for parents to spend lots of time with that new human early on. Not to mention that having that new human in your life completely flips "normal" upside down for you no matter how prepared you think you are. JFC. How much did your life change after having your prostate out... not that freaking much. She was nice about it, I probably would have laughed in his face before cussing him out in front of god and everyone. I don't even want kids but I'm tempted to ask my OB their opinions on how much time people should try to take off from work after having a baby. If it's anything less than 8 weeks, I'm walking straight out that door and finding a new one asap.

@@sweatytea333 8 weeks seems wildly inadequate to me! Where I live in Canada you get 1 year of maternity/parental leave, plus your spouse gets 5 weeks of parental leave. There are ways to extend this as well.

What the two independent review committees that were monitoring the safety data of the study factored into their decision to shut down the trials were things like: - The 320 men who participated in the study reported nearly 1,500 adverse events, of which 900 were directly attributed to the drug. - "The pill" statistically shows a 70% reduction in acne in women, but the injection for the men resulted in significant increases in acne for nearly 50% of the participants. - Side effects included injection site pain, severe acne, mood disorders (nearly 20% experienced a mood disorder), night sweats, confusion, testicular pain, erectile dysfunction (which essentially negates the entire purpose for taking the medication) and a potential risk of permanent sterilization. The rates of side effects were significantly higher than the rates of side effects for female birth control. Given that it is solely intended as a method of birth control and has zero other benefits for the user (unlike the non-intercourse related benefits associated with "the pill"), it's a simple matter of cost/benefit analysis. It's not misogyny or sexism. The costs (adverse effects) of the medication far outweighed the benefits (reduced risk of unwanted pregnancy from unprotected sex) and the independent study safety review boards (not guys being wimps) decided to shut it down. And your secondhand smoke argument is a false equivalence. You can't get pregnant because someone else is having sex in your general vicinity. There are no secondhand pregnancies.

@@missapodysis I know what birth control does to women. The negative side effects are at a much lower percentage and the benefits far outweigh the costs in the vast majority of cases. The point that I was making is that the reason that the male birth control trials ended was due to the safety concerns associated with the trial. The costs far outweighed any benefit. And if we really want to get down to brass tacks, if either party, male or female, isn't ready for the possibility of pregnancy, they should just keep it in their pants.

That's why you want a woman / fem parts/uterus owner for an OBGYN! Going to a male OBGYN is like going to a mechanic who's never owned or driven a car!

@@CatgirLinKC I honestly cannot fathom why a woman would want to go to a male gynecologist. I think it's patriarchal that they are even in the profession. I got referred to a specialist by my regular GYN when I was having heavy bleeding problems. It was a male. He not only didn't have a nurse with him during the exam, but also, without warning, and for no valid reason, he put his finger in my anus. When I reacted, he apologized and said he didn't give a warning because he didn't want to make me nervous. I was infuriated! And I was so angry at myself for allowing the exam without another person present. I did report him to the hospital, but as usual, nothing was done about it.

@@marlowemayhem3230 I always thought a rectal exam was part of a routine GYN exam, although every time I've had it done (always by a man, BTW, with a female nurse present) he warned me first. Gotta say that over the decades, I've heard waaaaay more horror stories about female OB/GYNs than male ones, and not just because they're the majority nowadays.

I know there are bad doctors around, and it makes me sad that some of you have had these experiences. But that doesn’t change the fact that I had the loveliest male ob/gyn accept me as a patient on a Sunday night and show up to hospital to look after me (I was on holidays, I wanted to go to a private hospital to have my own room but there’s no obligation for the doctor to accept me as a patient.). He described having a miscarriage as “like being slapped in the face by a wet fish” and it’s a pretty accurate description. Anyway, he was very empathetic and gave excellent care.

Plus she said he was an OB/GYN so he should know better than to compare the two completely unrelated experiences

My cousin told us that after she had the baby she would get too bored so she would be back to work withing three or four months. We told her she would likely not be bored and babies take a lot of energy to care for especially when recovering from birth not to mention she will be heartbroken to leave him so soon. Shes given birth which was a c section so that takes even longer to recover from . But its been three months and she is showing no signs of wanting to go back yet. Until you've had a kid man or woman you dont know how much you are attached to that kid the first year. You worry over them you poor every last drop of your energy into them and its very difficult to leave them with anyone but your partner for any length of time. You need at least 6 or 7 months and thats not even long enough. And in this world you cant just opt not to work to be a mom or dad you cant choose because most places dont pay enough to support one person on one salary nevermind your whole family.

As a guy. I find that age old question 'what's more painful, birth or kicked in the nuts' Laughable. I've been kicked, quite hard in the nuts before. It sucks. But after a few minutes, you're fine. its not HOURS of your body stretching and tearing a little to let a person pass through you.

Have you tried other types of birth control besides just the pill? They make ones without estrogen, you can use barrier methods, spermicide, or a really common option is a copper IUD like the one shown in the video. Those are all additional options if you are having issues with hormonal birth control. They very rarely fall out, so if that’s your main concern it’s not very likely at all. Just because your body didn’t react well to being on the pill, doesn’t mean there aren’t still options if you are interested!

@@corneliastreet2491 estrogen isn't the problem. Thus far I have tried multiple different pills combination and not. I have tried depo-provera. I have tried the hormone based IUDs. The copper IUD is not an option due to heavy periods as it tends to make periods worse. I always have a ton of side effects. The side effects are even worse if I'm on a progesterone only method. My worst experiences were the depo and the IUD. Also the current birth control method my husband and I are practicing is that he got a vasectomy, which allows me to avoid hormonal birth control all together. And yes he went back for his checks to make sure that it worked.

@@ktm5130 glad you found something that worked for you :) a vasectomy is a really great option, but since it’s permanent some people are more hesitant about it, but I am glad it worked for you guys! A note to anyone else: Copper IUDs can make bleeding and cramping worse for a few months, but it usually does return to whatever your normal is. If it doesn’t, you’ll probably want to get that checked out by a professional :)

My doctor said that wouldn't be a good option for me because I have very heavy, very painful periods already, so she recommended against trying it. The vasectomy being permanent is great for us. We have already had our agreed upon two daughters. He offered to do the procedure stating that I grew the babies and went through labor the least he could is take one for the team lol!

You can. Lawyers all around the USA are looking for cases like yours. Though they typically need to have a piece of the IUD as proof. There's one in Florida who started the Essure case if you want a good one.

That’s exactly why they recall and remove them, and the company needs to do a much better job of reaching out to people who have used their birth control so that they are aware of the risks. I am so sorry they failed you, and I hope they compensate your medical bills and birth control replacement at the very least!

My dental hygiene expert or whatever the right translation for her is in English has it to, she got pregnant and was capable of carry to full term, but had to take a special contraceptive pill because the other uterus, despite all the hormones involved in pregnancy that should stop that kept on having periods, and well, if she were to get pregnant in the other one as well, she would've been in serious trouble, whereas it was already a waiting game to see if the embryo would settle in a "good spot" so it would not cause a problem with the wall-like separation between the two uteruses, which in her case both exited into the vaginal canal.

I would also appreciate this because so many times I can’t even read what it says because it’s blurry.

My mom had a super hard time getting pregnant and had at least one miscarriage before having me and my twin sister. When I went to get pregnant, she started telling me about how her uterus was shaped like a banana. I was like, "Huh, it sounds like only one of your uterine tubes formed. I bet you only have one ovary, too." She had no idea what I was talking about. I'm really glad we have better information these days. I feel like it would have saved my mom a lot of heartache, shame, and pain

The first way I could tell it's a joke is how absurd and impossible it is - you can't read a soggy note after 40+ years. The more you think about it and as the story got more absurd (buried gold in the backyard) the less sense any of it makes and the more it starts to sound like fiction. It's an odd kind of humor that doesn't lead to a clear punchline but just leaves you saying "what did I just watch?".

Interestingly in all the pills I ever saw/used in Germany there weren't placebo pills, they just told you to not take them for a week.

@@TemariNaraannaschatz I was on the combined pill for 10 years and each pack contained 21 pills and I was trusted to go a week without the pills then start a new pack (I live in the UK). I think those sugar pills are put in the US pill packs because they don't think the women will remember! 🙄 How very condescending of US medics. I didn't usually get a withdrawal bleed during my 7 days off anyway.

Yeah I was raised Catholic so I was very confused when she said that because the Catholic church says NO contraception allowed whatsoever. Natural family planning is about the only thing you can work with if you want to be considered following the church 100%. Most Catholic women I know do not care though, they are more than willing to flout that particular decision and be on birth control for their own personal health and family, which I completely understand and support.

Ironically some women apparently experience all those things BECAUSE of birth control. I wouldn’t know because I’m not a woman and I don’t take birth control, but yea ig it sucks for some people.

It’s odd because I always had very positive experiences with birth control incredibly enough, I remember I would have the most minimal cramps sometimes from my bc but that’s about it but I’d always hear my friends say “you should get off that, when I was on it I gained weight/was emotional/my body changed etc.” but for me it was truly a blessing and I got the depo shot which a lot of people don’t even trust.

Is it possible it's just masking the symptoms from a larger issue? A lot of our food and environmental factors disrupt our hormones which can cause those symptoms.

Yeah I dont understand the pride that comes with not taking your time off, or other aspects like staying late at work and not getting paid for that work, or coming in when sick. When I was in primary school my dad shamed me when I asked to stay home when I was sick. He said he doesn’t so I can’t, and so other than the time I got the flu (bc my family never took us to get our flu shots) I went to school. Now that I am in college, some professors are understanding when you catch a cold, and some are not. Online school has helped me partially avoid that problem. I found a workplace that understands that if you are sick, stay home bc they dont want what I have. Tldr is when you need time off for whatever the reason is, but especially for a pregnancy, it is unfortunate to defend or fight for it.

Right now we have a huge problem with day care centers, there's not enough places available, and not enough childcare workers to accommodate all parents who are supposed to go back to work... I'm sure if we had at least 2 years of paid leave, it would help a lot, since ratios are smaller for babies under 2!

9 to 12 months dammmmnn. Lots of places give the mother 9-12 weeks in the U.S. and that is about it. I am hoping when I become a dad (hopefully soon) I can at least get 2-3 months but that is unlikely in the U.S. Every child deserves to have at least one parent at home raising them in my opinion.

Yes, men should indeed have the right to choose to take a medicine to prevent their partner from becoming pregnant, even if said product has a few potential side effects. Unfortunately, the FDA is currently refusing to give them the choice by refusing to allow such products into the market.

I wonder why the two are connected...that's interesting to me, I wish more research was done on your condition and how periods effect it.

My periods amplify my Crohn's pain and other symptoms, which makes sense because the same muscles and tissues can be involved in both. But the connection between your seizures and periods? Wow, that's surprising and I hope somebody figures out what's up with that. There must be some fascinating (albeit inconsiderate) science at play!

Seizures and migraines can get worse right before periods. Please talk to your neurologist and obyn on treatment. Hormones and stuff can effect a lot. Mine are worst before and during.

I don’t have full blown epilepsy (hope you’re doing well) but I’ve had a handful of seizures since puberty, and most of them were while I was on my period. My neurologist kinda waved it off since seizure meds take care of it, but I would like to at least know why that happens.

@@WarriorAuranae It's because progesterone has an anticonvulsant effect, and it drops just before and during your period. Estrogen has the opposite effect, so some people have more seizures when they are ovulating.

The pill cant make you infertile, There is conflicting evidence about depression, but there isnt evidence of it inducing suicidal tendancies. basically, the Male contraceptive was poorly designed for the difference in biology between men and women, it was more akin to an attempt at temporary chemical castration

@@Lordgrayson the pill can cause issues which can lead to infertility. Depression is definitly a side affect i experienced and i people around me feel alot better after quitting it too. Obv there should be room for improvements on meds for anyone. I find it very strange however that birth control for women can cause severe side effects yet its still approved and given to children

@@Sharonamy no, it's not "exactly" the same side effects, that's fallacious. there really ought to be more studies done on the subject, but the samples they've got now for males are definitely more damaging on a general scale than the ones we have for females as of now. They're far more recent, plus the female vs male body have many hormonal differences that aren't equivalent. Your lack of empathy and information proves that sexism goes both ways.

My ex was stabbed a lot by my copper one (on top of bleeding like a slaughterhouse). When I went to get it checked, apparently one of the arms was broken and it was stuck sideways. The hormonal one I replaced it with has been nothing but positives!

Well, that's what makes it a double standard. It comes down to the biological differences. One person can get pregnant, the other can't. Regardless of laws or social standards, getting pregnant and birthing a child will always be more difficult for the female.

The end consumer of the male pill are virtualy the same as the consumer of condoms. If he is not willing to wrap his willie, he will most likely not be buying some hormonal stuff to put inside his own body. Specialy if there are significant side effects.

Plus the lochia one needs to be standard anyways regardless of type of pregnancy care. As well as making sure prenatal and postnatal anxiety/depression are caught and treated.

I think that post was more about the doctor not even giving the patient a chance to express concerns or adequately informing of what to expect (what’s normal, what may need to be monitored, etc). So many women get medical information from each other because their OBs are aloof and unhelpful!

I'm super curious about those, especially because I don't know how correct the comparison is. When a woman's giving birth her body's doing all kinds of things to prepare, while a man getting shocks is just...getting hurt, y'know? So having an actual doctor compare and contrast the experiences would be lovely.

People have a really inconsistent idea of what pain tolerance is. I'm mostly in healthcare but worked as a piercer for some time, formally for a year ish then on the side for years after that, so I have plenty of experience observing differences that correlated across genders. What I noticed is that men would vocalize about pain or otherwise indicate that they were experiencing it far sooner/with milder stimulus than women, but women would almost invariably show far less self-control once they did indicate experiencing pain. Guys would start verbalizing right away, but would hold still through an entire procedure, whereas women would seem fine for a while at first but then suddenly yip loudly and make jumpy/jerky movements. I'd rather pierce a male any day. Sure they complained but they held still far better and obeyed instructions better as well.

I'm pretty sure research shows that women do have a lower pain tolerance than men, but don't cite me on that. On the other hand, I'm not sure that an electrical current applied externally can accurately simulate the feeling of labour.

@@vanderbam2741 No it isn't an exact replica of birthing pain. They put the sensor pads on the lower back and abdomen. And the test is for about an hour. Watching mamadoctorjones reviewing I didn't know I was pregnant, some of those women were sure that they were dying from the pain. I guess that some pain is perceptional. Let's hope Mamadoctorjones reviews one of these shows.

Both parties would obviously feel mortified in the moment it happened. I worked with a nurse whose Rollie chair squirted right out from under her. She landed on her backside on the floor. I helped her fill out the work comp paperwork, and arranged for an appointment with a physician. Those Rollie chairs need seatbelts.

6 weeks is standard but some places give up to 12 weeks. Usually it's not paid and often you have to have worked there a certain amount of time before they'll give that much.

These tests caused symptoms similar to pregnancy, tricking some of the women into thinking that they were pregnant. Gregory Pincus recognized the contraceptive effects of Rock's tests, proposing a tweak of a break from the hormones to allow the women a period. Rock compared the proposed tweaks to be similar in fashion to the rhythm method. Pincus then presented his pill for testing on Rock's patients as a contraceptive. From this angle, it seems that Rock recognized the final product as a happy accident, or that it was close enough to Church stances, that he hoped to bring it before the Church for secondary approval. Not that he engineered the pill for the Church's favor.

I didn't get much more information, either. When she explained how to use tampons (after being in sports for 6 years, and not allowed to use one), it was super simple, and the closest I ever got to an explanation of sex from her. Bruh.
