When I was a kid diesel trucks were a great value; good power, most were reliable, diesel fuel was really cheap, and the trucks lasted forever. A lot of those factors have changed now, so I'm kind of surprised by this trend. It's getting pretty expensive to buy/maintain a diesel truck.
@CM-maga
@CM-maga 5 лет назад
Yea I agree but still a great value if you get a base model diesel from any brand, they go for a decent price but no bells and whistles. The 6.7 PS, 6.7 Cummins and the 6.6 Durmax have been good and last a while. There also more comfortable and can pull a hell ton more.
@sleeplessrichmond325

C M Can you guys believe that a super duty with 6.7 PS gets better fuel economy than a Tundra? And they are about same price after discount.
@AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight 5 лет назад
I'm not surprised one bit. It's called fuel economy regulation. And don't think we're solving problems with these reuglations. In the real world, the bottom line isn't MPG, but to government regulators around the world, it is. With that, manufacturers must employ all different kinds of tricks to game regulators. The priority isn't always satisfying the market, they sometimes have do things just because government forces them to. Without government interference, the market would determine what engines we'd see under our hoods of our vehicles.

Nissan has a better deal, better price, better warranty but too many sheep will go with the others just because smh. And for all the haters who will comment negatively, it’s made in the USA and no truck is without issues. My 19 ram hasn’t stopped having issues since I bout it. And I’ve owned many Ford F-150 and gmcs and rams. But that’s just my opinion everyone has one.

The mpg is terrible on titan. A major benefit of buying the half ton is getting 30 mpg around town. If I wanted 15 mpg and a stiff ride with better numbers why not buy a heavy duty truck? Ofc that is where Nissan fills that niche. Best and worst of both worlds

Love my Titan XD. Towed 8,000+ lbs travel trailer this weekend with 30+ mph winds and I didn't get thrown around at all. Relaxing trip to the campground. I drove and love the Ram 1500 - it is a beautiful truck but for towing and the warranty (100,000 bumper to bumper!) I'm very happy with my Titan and Cummins engine. Also it's cool to talk to people who are surprised to see Cummins in Nissan.

I own a 2016 Nissan Titan XD crew cab 4X4 Platinum Reserve with the Cummins 5.0 Diesel and I am completely satisfied and constantly impressed and surprised by this truck. It has been a wonderful truck and very reliable bar a few problems up front ie. transmission reprogramming (which just made it shift better) and a small air leak in one of the door seals which all was taken care of by my dealer and no problems since. I have towed a 27 foot Jayco camper fully loaded with four people in the truck and it was like there was no trailer behind me. I have even pulled the camper during one of our Texas heavy rain and wind storms which never phased it, The truck just effortlessly pulls and tracks confidently for a half ton or heavy half ton whatever you want to call it; I am impressed with it. I also believe that the XD's combination of the Cummins 5.0 V8, Aisin 6 speed transmission and Nissan heavy duty frame from their NV 3500 in the Titan XD is completely under rated and under tuned from Nissan. It just seems like it moves and pulls effortlessly with no drama or white knuckle experiences. If you test drive a Titan XD you will see what I mean it does not drive like a half ton pickup it drives more like a 3/4 ton pickup truck. In the end, people can laugh all they want at this truck but even after being out two years sooner than any of these other new half ton trucks coming out; the Titan XD is more powerful and more capable with no white knuckle experiences trying to achieve its spec'd limits. That's my experience anyways and I get the last laugh since I spent a lot less money on my Titan XD diesel and got it two years sooner with a much better warranty and powertrain to boot then any of these new diesel half ton trucks coming out.

I've been thinking about the Titan XD Cummins for a long time. There is a local dealer here in San Antonio that offers lifetime powertrain warranties on all their new cars and trucks. The idea of a cummins/aisin truck that fits the whole family and has a lifetime powertrain warranty is extremely attractive. Is there any way that you guys could explore the idea of companies out there that do tuning for them that doesn't void warranty, and maybe also just for the entertainment value maybe those that go all out on tuning the Titan XD?

The Titan XD, especially the lower end trim models (S and SV) equipped with the Cummins are actually a great value. I think Nissan got screwed by Renault in reference to the Titan. The Titan was mis-marketed and under refined when it hit the market a few years ago.

It should, it has same type of axles, non-floating, has slightly more payload and towing capacity, but what sets the xd apart is how much better it handles the weight. Nissan really could have marketed this better because it's a great truck for those who tow heavier weight regularly and want better stability and handle the weight better like a 3/4 ton but dont want the harsh ride of a 3/4 ton. It's actually a great compromise. I own one and love it. I've towed with half tons and the xd, and there is a pretty significant difference in how it handles the weight vs a half ton. Feels alot more stable and isnt affected as much as a half ton is towing 8,000+ lbs, and that's what really sets it apart, and for the price it's great.

Guys...f***ing love your channel and look forward to all upcoming reviews in this segment...exiting times indeed for the 1/2 ton American truck market. Yes, prices are crazy, maintenance cost through the roof, DPF/DEF/EGR/SCR systems suck (but I do like the environmental benefits:). Diesel fuel lacks lubricity, we're pouring all kinds of additives in our tanks, running Amsoil, adding filtration systems to get the soot down to 5 microns, options are Range Rover like (crazy right), but WE LOVE IT. I can't imagine getting into my new Superduty and starting it up with a key😁

Mine is stock but apparently deleting turns it into another animal. BUT, you run the risk of screwing with your warranty. If you live in a state like NY, class 2B trucks aren’t emissions tested. Maintenance is more than gas though you’re right. Every 10k miles I change the oil, filter, both diesel filters. Costs about $175 or so if done yourself. Easy to do. But if you don’t need the diesel grunt, the gasser is kickass as well.

Southern Nevada offroading and back country when you say emissions crap are you referring to DEF? I have 2 diesels both rams and I spend less than $20 a year per rig on DEF. Expensive-ass oil changes and fuel filter changes is what sucks.

@@hemiaddiction yeah, that was the only reason that I didnt buy one a few years ago when they first came out. I wonder next year when the updated version comes out if they will tune it a bit better to get that mileage up. It is actually a perfect truck for me. Robert Richardson obviously you aren’t the intended audience for the Titan XD. The point was to bridge the gap between a ~450 lb ft gas 1/2 ton and a relatively humongous 3/4 ton. Even today it’s the best option torque wise in the 1/2 ton market since it seems the big 3 are going to limit the output on their diesel 1/2 tons.

Nissan is a 2500 with light axles. You should compare gvwr. Like my 16 ram by the vin # says it can tow 10,200 but gvwr is like 14,300. The truck weighs more than 3,900 lbs so it can't really tow 10,200. It's really closer to 9,400 lbs. When you subtract the weight of the truck from actual gvwr. All trucks are like this. I'm just curious. Mine feels great at 14k gross so I'm sure the numbers are on the safe side. 8speed, 3.92 rear, etc. In sure the 1k difference in weight rating on the Ford and dodge aren't noticeable, the gm probably is if your load isn't quite distributed right. One thing you didn't mention, ram will put that motor in any trim level from base tradesman up like the Nissan, but for some reason Ford and gm won't. I think that's nuts but whatever.

Maintenance on the diesel or on the air ride. Or both. What am I looking at as far as maintenance on the air ride.
@ConquerCollin
@ConquerCollin 5 лет назад
@@maverick5785 Eventually the air ride system is going to start to break down and need replacement parts which is going to be costly. Imagine driving down the road and an air bag pops. You're going to need a tow. Make sure to drive both. If you aren't going to have the truck out of warranty then it's fine, but eventually the air ride is going to go out and cost $2k to fix. I think the diesel can be a really good option but all the emissions crap on them reduces engine life and reliability. The diesel is a lot of money upfront and there have been a lot of quality issues and reliability issues on this engine specifically. Just google the problems people have been having. Getting 30mpg is awesome but a v8 will get you 24 on the highway and be less expensive upfront and in the long run. Just stuff to think about. Get whatever makes you happy

If you do excessive milage the half ton diesel is worth it. If your a low mileage driver it will be hard to offset the cost of maintenance. I just got rid of my ecodiesl and went back to gas due to the cost of oil and fuel filter changes, cost of diesel and def.

Maybe you ought to look at the reliability of the Fords before making such bold statements They have been out for a while now while the others are not yet so hold your blanket verdict. In like for like 2018 spec the Ford betters the GM on towing and fuel efficiency. GM has been outsold by Ford in this segment and has more reliability issues so your theory is blown out of the water. Cummins is good but not modern technology they are more suited in Fire engines.. Lol.

These days, they're not nearly as reliable due to all of the emissions stuff they stick on them and the price of fuel is higher than gas. 20 years ago, it would have been awesome to have a diesel 1/2 ton, but these days, I'm not so sure from a cost perspective.

With experience with the previous ecodiesel from the previous bodystyle the ecodiesel was easily able to exceed what is listed currently for ford, also I know someone that has the 3 litre powerstoke and it easily exceeds, as a 4wd, the 2wd fuel economy numbers. One thing folks have to realize the titan is what used to be classified as a heavy half. The ford, chev/gmc, and dodge are regular half-tons. The Cummins diesel is a working diesel, while the 3-litres would be classed as a heavy commuter (heavier than a Jetta or Land Rover diesel but lighter than a working diesel).

Glad to see more manufactures finally doing what I said they should do with the eco diesels in half ton trucks for years. Long as we can keep the EPA from restricting diesels more and more. I always here people say diesels are not worth it cause they cost more to maintain. Yes and no. If a diesel is built right I have noticed the cost is about the same except the diesel will last longer then a gas engine (again if built right along with the transmission) Your biggest cost difference will be fuel. Note on the up keep. If you can do most the work your self and know how to shop around the cost will be pretty cheap as anything else.

Depends where you live as well. I'm in British Columbia Canada. And diesel is cheaper almost everywhere you go per liter. And with the better mileage it's an easy answer for me. But yes it has to be reliable. When diesels fail its pricey. But that's what warranty is for. And once warranty is done just tune and delete the truck and it will get even better mileage and power. And reliability

Maybe it’s something j2807 dunno but I doubt in reality that it’s any less capable than the other two. I transport TTs to 9k with a tuned ED 268 HP 465 TQ. With 8 speed 3.92 It’s enough torque to accelerate it dead stop to 55 but I would like a lil more HP on Interstate grades. The GM with enough TQ & gearing to move the load might be best here with more HP.
