yeah! this is going to sound douche-y af but Dredd with his helmet on WAS his real face, he was the unyielding force in a world coming apart. Master Chief should have been the same
Pablo Schreiber needs to understand what he said about Season 2 being better than Season 1 was a lie. This does his reputation no good, using the excuse that he's contracted to shill for Halo season 2 does not exonerate him from being a liar. He lied to the fans faces saying season 2 would be better, we've listened to the fans, it will be good viewing, promise. Pablo Schreiber is a liar and will be forever tainted as a liar.
They only briefly show him without a helmet at the beginning of the movie, but never directly and much less showing his face. And sadly they could have done that here as well easily. It’s fine for Master Chief to remove his helmet. Just not in public and never visible to the audience/player.
@masterchiefpettyofficerspa3636 Halo 4 was still pretty rough narrative wise. The Didact or whatever his name is should've been a much bigger deal than he was. Everything in Halo 4 should've been a much bigger deal, but it all felt flat and boring and by the time Halo 5 came around it was like 4 didn't happen and then Infinite pretty much erased everything from those games and then ruined The Banished on top of that.
This is the practice for all modern writing unfortunately. People just destroying franchises for their own agendas because they can’t build their own fanbase.
Odd. Paramount had the decency to change the ugly design of the blue anthropomorphic hedgehog thanks to the overwhelming backlash, thus winning over many fans hearts and even respecting the video games' source material... Yet, they treat the Halo show like a trash bag to toss around with.🤔
Well, the movie already had a semi-decent story with good jokes & Jim Carrey, its just the CGI that needed to be changed. But in this case, There's only so much one can change in a shite story.
@@justiron2999 Studio deserved it for letting it go on that long in such a state. A five year old could have told them it wouldn't have worked in its original state.
they cannot write properly how does the human race lose soo badly to the covenant even thought there tech and arsenal is not bad(tank rifles spartans ships etc ) afterll soo they just make human as dumb and nonsense to basic logics for compensate even thought is like fixing a car with dutch tape.
Also. That’s the point. Chief is damn near emotionless, and the emotion he does convey is buried under so many layers that the presence of the slightest amount at all is impactful to the narrative. Just. So much wrong with this show.
yea theyre really scraping at the basics of writing a screenplay with the directions theyre taking this franchise. and theyre doing it all wrong anyway. strip away all the halo stuff and this show still sucks ass, but because its got the halo ip attached to it, its just so insulting.
The writers were so fucking arrogant when they were being interviewed before season 1 released. “We’re going to tell our own story rather than use the game’s as reference for how the story’s timeline will go.” Yes, because you have such great ideas that the original show runners were dropped. What a disgrace.
In what world does any writer/artist/song writer declare that they want to tell someone else's story? You people act like someone wronged you. You don't own Halo and you have no rights to the story. If you don't like it, then go back to your mom's basement and complain about why women find you repulsive.
What they rly said was ''Were terrible at our jobs and would prefer to make a new story based around woke cool topics instead of acquiring the skill to adapt the current story to live action"
Dude. The scene with the marines and the elite really pissed me off. Like no light at all, they go into darkness and just die. The makers of this series have made really bad action scenes and they make the UNSC seems like dumbs
Also, it turns out, in the future there is no night vision or thermal vision otherwise all those elites would be dead. Also even body cams aren't used to provide training, intel or to corroborate Master Cheeks report of what went down at the relay station so Ackerson can gaslight cheeks about his mental state.. What's really mental is the super shit writing in this series
@@paihobbes8680series is shit. Instead of focusing on the war with Covenant, the give us scenes of fights between humans (ONI boss is the new villain) and Covenant goes as a sideolot. this is too easy of an excuse. the problem is that he takes off his helmet at every fucking opportunity and at times/places where it makes no sense to do so. imagine the scene on Cairo Station where Chief gets a medal (I dont think he actually does but you know the scene); would it actually ruin master chief if he had his helmet off for a ceremony? no. the problem isnt whether the helmet is on/off; it's that the writers dont give a shit about Halo or the character known as "Master Chief" I see where people are coming from though; the flagrant insistence on taking the helmet off is indicative of the above mentioned problem of them not giving a shit.
@cole8834 exactly right. Taking his helmet off in ep 1 s 1 when Kwan has a gun pointed at his skull to try and win her trust = dumb and shallow writing. Taking his helmet off in a battle zone = dumb and shallow writing. Taking his helmet off in the rubble surrounded by potential hostiles...the list goes on and on. It's like the writers give him plot armour for no helmet shots, but the rest of the time he's a man-child of a psychological ticking time bomb. It's stupid.
@@cole8834 thank you. this is what ive been saying for a while now. people just whining about his helmet being off are painting a bad image for what we're actually trying to critique. i get nobody wants to write a fucking essay explaining why its wrong but for the love of god at least someone has to. the showrunners think we're judt crybabies who cant get over a simple decision they made. ive seen morons defending it when theyre not understanding what we're really complaining about.
🤦🏾♂️ bruh, the show was never for us, it’s for the soccer mom and the average viewer you who actually has a life, so for us playing as master chef was cool because it was a FPS where you are the master chef. This show is not doing that. This show is just trying to tell a halo story for the average viewer, and for the average viewer no one‘s gonna care about someone that they never seen and barely 😂😂😂🤣. It’s call common sense you know
@NotSsteVven828 thats fuckin dumb. that whole thing is stupid. a) you can't label a show as halo and not attract halo fans. that is common sense. there's a balance between catering to new and existing audiences, they have done horribly. the story outside of the halo IP sucks by itself. as an adaptation, it sucks even worse. you can't adapt a story and then not stick to the core themes and genre. halo is a sci-fi war story. what they've done is some sci-fi drama romantisy shite. b) the story of halo is not hard to do. it's not hard to consume. it's not hard to retell. they've added so much unnecessary shit that just conflicts with the story. halo is about a supersoldier saving humanity from a religious collective of alien races trying to end all life in the universe. even beyond that, the story of the arbiter learning the truth of the rings and rebelling against the covenant is good as it is. the political abuse of the sangheili, the alliance of the elites and the UNSC. even further than that, the covenant soldiers that rebelled beforehand and formed the banished. the story of the forerunners and the return of the didact. its all there. halo is already a story. a war story. its about the will power of humanity. there are so many real world and historical shit to draw from within halo already. there's so much story. there are books and comics and an extensive lore. you don't need to invent new shit. and these stories aren't hard to consume. why are these morons trying to tailor to "soccer moms and the average viewer" when that's not what halo is. they don't watch sci-fi war shit. it defeats the entire concept of having a target audience. if you want to tailor to that demographic, do that with another show. don't do that with fucking halo. halo has an existing target audience, halo has an existing and passion fan base. not tailoring to them is fucking stupid on every level. stop defending their awful decisions. "this show is not for you" is fucking stupid. you mean this halo show isn't for me, a fan of halo? do you hear how silly that is?
After Halo 4, and moreso 5, I completely detached any emotional weight to any future Halo stuff of any kind. Bungie finished Halo with Reach. And that's that. Anything that comes afterward is pure money milking from the soulless creatures that own the Halo IP, and refused to let what they perceive as a cash-cow have such a peaceful and complete ending. Halo was so good during my childhood, one of the best franchises to grow up with. I'll never forget the memory of playing it on the original Xbox when I must have been around 8, blanket over my head and completely immersed in defending Humanity against impossible odds. I'll also never let the skinsuit from 343/MS try to blend itself in with Bungie's legacy. Halo is also not the only franchise this has happened to, but for me personally it is the most tragic.
@@Revkor It wasnt horrendous, it had its moments. But its relatively "meh" quality when combined with the rest of what 343i have done just lumps it into the stinking pile of shit.
@@Revkor I only liked Halo 4 because of the interactions between Cortana and John. The Didact was "meh". Cortana should have stayed dead in Halo 4, it felt so fucking cheap when they revived her in Halo 5. For me, anything past Halo 4 isnt canon. I do wish we got a Halo Wars 3 or something involving Red team.
@@Lord_Thunderballs Is such a shame how much Halo 4 and 5 dropped the ball on the story. Especially with how much they built up the Didact and Jul M'dama in the Forerunner Saga and the Kilo-5 Trilogy novels respectively. Both formidable enemies killed in the most lackluster and cheap way instead of expanding their roles in the following sequels.
Whats really funny is there is source material from the books that show how John is disrespected by some officers. First in Fall Of Reach where Colonel Akerson berates him and the entire spartan 2 program and insults him Then secondly in The Flood where the ODST colonel calls Master Chief a freak to his face All John does is slightly tense and have bad internal thoughts but hes one of the best soldiers in the entire UNSC, of course he doesnt have hissy fit emotional outbursts. It feels like they just took names of characters and stuck them onto completely difference ones, Keyes being a good example along with his daughter lol. Not only are they a different race but theyre also not even close to the orgional characters
i thought it was cool in the opening of episode 1 he's given a but speech by that irrelevant old suicidal windbag and he couldn't have given a shit. but then they ruin it by having her try to bait his death like i could give a shit if this wimpy little bitch boy and his obscenely large nose dies. even then, they convey his concern and general array of emotion in that scene well... with his fucking helmet on. i dont particularly care that they take it off anymore, its them saying its not possible to do the character with it on that pisses me off. and also the amount of times he does it completely unnecessarily, but eh. he almost never needs it in these two episodes because theyre just that bland. so who cares.
Yeah, it's really really bad. As someone listening through the Halo books again currently, it's quite literally, nothing like the books or games. ALL they had to do was tell a war story. Little plot, just humanity fighting with all it's got against an unstoppable force. Slowly watching the outer colonies drop out etc. Such a shame dude. I truly feel some buddies and I could do a better job.
Master Chief did have and emotional outburst when he killed those ODSTs in The Fall of Reach. But that was entirely explained and he wasn't just an asshole with no reason, like Master Cheeks.
@@simonredforceI'm not sure I'd truly consider that an emotional outburst. It's borderline. He was more confused since those were basically his first in person kills, and they were friendlies. He acted on instinct/training. I believe. And it was maybe a few sentences, if I remember correctly. But yeah, definitely nothing like the show.
@@jonny-b4954 If I remember correctly, the ODSTs mocked him and his friends right after the procedures and after he lost most of his companions. He was angry and wanted to punish them but he could not control his strength.
'He seems to understand Halo about as much as the two showrunners did.' To be fair, Hollywood seems to have made it a requirement that their writers/showrunners know nothing about the IP. Or how to write.

Halo, an intergalactic war epic with super-soldiers and cosmic horrors... *"HOW DO YOU FCK THAT UP?!* Episode 3's going to be a musical episode, where masterchief sings a g@y little song about his feelings.
Negative. We need the original VO actors to play Chief and Cortana, and they should only ever be on screen when shit is going down. Cheeks should have been a spartan 3 with a horrific war orphan backstory, making him an emotionally compelling and relatable character. Chief isn’t supposed to be relatable, he’s supposed to be the fucking Master Chief.

That's because twitter is full of blue hairs who probably don't even watch the show, let alone play the games. Yet they want to SJW everything. I'm not sure what they are SJW'ing with this show but the point still stands.
What bots were calling you brain dead for saying that? Also, while I agree that Season 2, so far, is as bad as Season 1, I have to say that it's in some ways worse because the writers decided to reset the Chief/Cortana stuff off-screen rather than write their way to a good resolution that could've made fans at least accept the events of Season 1. Now, Season 2 seems more like JJ Abrams screwing up Rise of Skywalker after Rian Johnson screwed up The Last Jedi.
I'm happy I didn't let this trash sully my memory of one of the greatest gaming IPs in history. The ESG/moronic garbage they shovel out of writers rooms is the antithesis to good story telling.
6:17 that’s also bullshit, in the novels, humanity was at war with itself before it went to war with the covenant, the Spartans were made as super soldiers who would be able to enforce order and UNSC rule where even ODSTs might have qualms about not doing some things. They were the perfect weapons (and were largely “recruited” from Insurrectionist colonies). When the covenant started to attack human worlds, the UNSC was quick to push that aliens were attacking to try and bring the Innies back to their side, but they thought it was the government fucking with them, until a few major worlds got taken out. Spartans were kept secret until it became politically convenient to have them as propaganda (because humanity was losing the war badly), Spartans were never recorded as “killed in action” just “missing in action” because “Spartans never die”. It was a real “humanity fuck yeah” fist of defiance.
Yeah Reaper got that wrong. What you just wrote should have been the entire plot of the first season instead of the shit they gave us. Fuck this show. Fuck Paramount.

Remember all those awesome live action commercials for Halo 3 and ODSR back in the day? I believe those were done by Neil Blomkamp who would go one to make District 9.
Neill Blomkamp also went on to make the Gran Tursimo movie, which is funny because he was going to make the Halo movie until that deal fell through, and years later, he went on to make a movie for a Sony game. It's really good, by the way. I seriously enjoyed the Gran Turismo movie.
I'm glad someone tells it as it is with this show. It's actually frustrating how many big halo RU-vidrs feel the need to defend aspects of this show when it's clearly NOT halo at all
You are correct DestructoKnight, the TV show is not a video game, one in which it jumped the shark after Halo 3. I feel sorry for you. Do you also try to play Halo with the toilet bowl? Don't do it, because that could get you sick with E. coli O157 H7.

Red vs Blue? Are you joking. The only kids that watched that had brain damage from too much drinking or they were the kids in special needs. Season 2 of Halo has 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If Red vs Blue were to get on Rotten Tomatoes, it would be like a black hole, sucking away all the negative scores until it reached infinite negativity.
@@joefish4466 Nope you're the one brain damage defending terrible garbage. Unlike Red vs Blue, these hacks have shown they can't write a good story at all.
Do you have a single digit IQ? The video game jumped the Great White Sharp after Halo 3. The story made no sense after that. People had to watch a RU-vid summary video to explain all the convoluted mish mash after Halo 3. It was like the story for the video game was being told by a 3 year old. It was painful to watch, but I didn't play Halo for the story. I played Halo to mindlessly kill a level full of monster and do that over and over and over again.
One of the many reasons why Paramount is failing: They greenlit season 2 very early, not waiting for the audience's reaction to season 1. Only thing they could do was to reduce the budget for season 2.
Okay, WHAT THE FUCK!?!? This is the first im hearing about how Cortana was made in this shows lore, and THAT is NOT how "cognitive impression modeling", the process for creating AI, including Cortana, works in the real lore. Why would it be that?! Why would they make it that?! WTF happened to the standard issue neural interface that literally everyone conscripted into the UNSC has?? WHY GOO?!?
Because having a fanatically rich and robust universe filled with great lore and characters wasn't enough for the showrunners - they needed a bed to shit in and something to ruin
Here's a recap of season 1 The developers of this show created a Halo show while disregarding all of the Halo lore and only kept fragments of the imagery to lure fans in.
Also would like to point out that on the back of the London Metro newspaper this week, there was a massive promotional image of the Master Chief WITHOUT his helmet on. This is their choice of promotional art for long-time Halo fans smh 🤦
Out of all the disappointments with “modern” entertainment. This one really hurts, I had great memories with the first few games. I tried to watch the first 2 episodes of season 1 couldn’t finish.
You have to admire their hobesty through the plot. They established in the *first episode* that the show is a skinsuit. Damn that just makes you sit back for a moment, its like the writers were desperate to send that message in the first episode
Paramount heard we want a dark and gritty halo TV series and instead of realizing we were talking about the story, we were talking about the *effects used*
The main character in Fallout being a woman is already a bad sign. I don't care how unrealistic the universe already is, but I'll never buy an average woman surviving even 5 minutes in that world. The first Super Mutant that sees her will be the last Super Mutant she sees.
@@coltonwilkie241 Meh. I'm fine with it being a woman. And she's clearly out of her element in the trailer. It also seems like there's 4 or 5 main characters. But... that being said... Fallout is the ONLY show I have hope for. And that's because of Westworld and Tod Howard. Also any obsidian shills can shove it. "oh Tod ruined it reee". Nah, tod saved it. Van Buren was gonna be terrible, the two or three failed attempts at a fallout 3 were all terrible, BoS was the single worst game in the series by far, Tactics is the second worst, and Interplay (obsidian) actually wanted to double down on the stuff that made BoS so bad. Okay, 76 was garbage on release. Its decent now (bite me). It and fallout 4 went in a new visual direction and it didnt work. New Vegas is over rated as heck, and current obsidian would make fallout 4 look like a 10/10.
Loss after loss.... setback after setback..... We dont even get Halo. Without knowing about the games, or the state of the show, you'd think we would have gotten around to seeing the Halo rings by the second season, right? Yknow, the things the franchise, and the show is named after? The most incompetent screenwriters couldnt possibly leave that bit out, could they? They say that it was a misunderstanding that no one played the games before or when making the show, and that they did, but it was and still is a complete lie. There is probably one guy on the screenwriting staff who had to read through the books and simply jotted down sparknotes on interesting characters, and they occasionally ask him for refernece materiel.
Cortana was never a normal AI. She was created from a scan of Dr. Halsey's brain. She's also one of the few "Smart" AI, which is what makes her a cut above the rest, but also fated to inevitably fall to rampancy.
Man, the old school Halo commercials were much better than entire 2 Halo TV shows. I remember shedding a tear when the Halo reach TV ad came out and seeing Noble 6 sacrifice himself after taking the bomb from an injured Kat. Now that is good Halo show
All they had to do was basically copy Band of Brothers but with a Halo paint job and they still f’d it up. Like seriously aren’t these people being paid millions of dollars? How tf do you fail so completely at such an easy task?
Because corporations and the people running them despise the fanbase and the content we like, cause it doesn't follow (and even defies) their rancid ideals. Retroblasting made a video talking about Corporate culture and why (especially now) all these great franchises and legacies are being ruined. It's called the Iger Sanctioning and it really highlights how fucked the official entertainment market is at this point.
6:00 It's not that he's a mystery, the helmet isn't hiding his identity, it IS part of his identity, a major one at that. We know plenty about john, he's a thoroughly developed character. Wearing the helmet is not meant as a way for the viewer to transpose themselves into the character by limiting the identity of the character but it is itself part of the character. The reason for which most people hate the decision to unmask him is because it's a decision that changes the soul of the character itself.
My biggest gripe is the lack of WAR. Humanity is on the backpedal as soon as they find out the Covenant exists, but we have time to talk the whole episode. I understand budget reasons, but make the talking about the war at least. You can have good writing fill in your imagination if they can’t afford it
and too confirm that these people have no clue of the source material he calls master chief a man in a suit this is master chief not ironman the suit isn't why master chief is master chief the genetic modifications and spartan training is what makes a spartan a spartan they are genetically engineered super soldiers not someone in a robot suit
UNSC has Star Trek level holodecks, yet Kai says she is going to loose Chief in the fog, why doesn't a Special OPs Soldier not have a thermal scope on her sniper rifle?
Actually really sad because Pablo Schreiber is legit an amazing actor, his presence in American Gods was insane. Hope he can find some success after this shit show is over.
I've already called it that that line about MC being a guy in a suit is cheeky little foreshadowing for if they finally cave to fan demands they'll write out this character and have a new guy brainwashed into thinking he's John-117 and he'll never take the damn helmet off (because it would give away to those who know that he isn't--contrived, yes, but it works) and we would probably see a proper Halo unfold from there. The likelihood of this happening is ... infinitesimally small. But if they do it, they will smugly look back at that scene in this season and say "I bet none of you caught on that we would do this! Aren't we clever?? Praise us!!!"
I was soooo optimistic that this season was going to be better, but damn I was wrong it’s actually worse than season 1. At this point just call it Master Chief dead in 2024, RIP Master Cheeks

Thanks for the update. I watched 2 or 3 episodes from the first season and despite having been excited for it and being happy how cool everything looked at the start, it quickly devolved into something I was sure to _avoid_ ... I bet they could've brought a different random Halo player in to the office every day to guide the writing and manage to make something better. This feels like it was made by someone who browsed through the Halo wikipedia page and only looked at pictures.
What's hilarious is how they were boasting about the numbers for the premier of the first season. Not a single mention about viewership numbers for the second season XD
When HALO LEGENDS was being produced, the Japanese animation studios were strictly instructed never to show Master Chief's face. I never expected that the live-action drama would go as far as to reveal not just his face, but his naked body...
