In order to hang things like electric mountain bikes, one wheels, guns, fuel, and anything else...I've got to reinforce the ribs and entire bracket system for Scrappy's new wing. Follow along as I share how I'm doing it!
Order "I Support Our Troops" shirts on www.mikepatey.com. I'm closing the orders down in a week, so get them in!

Interesting…@2:51 you can see that what became the keyholes startout as having an *internal* keyed feature 🤔 I surmise the hole pattern is for attaching actuators of some kind and the keyed opening is an anti-torque detail… but why two rotary actuator at mid span? Hmmm

hey Mike have you ever thought of doing remote thermal imagining pods on the wings for search and rescue? Make it is you have a camera out under the wing that can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and move up and down so your co pilot could be watching the feed from those while you perform your search pattern? You should talk to Trent about doing camera setups as well.

Hello Mike, Retired structural engineer and rookie pilot here. Have no idea about your mystery holes but as some have suggested maybe they have to do with your wing surface optimization. Would like to add that the intersections of truss web members to the chords of trusses are “panel points”. You explained where concentrated loads may be applied well but seemed you were looking for the term. And one other thing is that without diagonal web members in a truss, you will still have a Vierendeel truss, although not as stiff as other trusses with diagonal members. Sincerely, Will

The 6 holes are for the linear actuators that will provide the variable wing chord. One of the reasons the wings structures are so beefy are they need to take the load of a radically large chord. This plane might fly as slow as 15 knots or so in slow flight config.. Amazing Mike and crew!

He said in a previous video that said system is powered by an axle (he called it torque tube) which makes sense. The axle is probably continuous or has some mechanical connection and prevents one side to deploy without the other. Either way it doesn't justify the pattern of the holes... Also if I were to design a variable chord mechanism I wouldn't have one big single central jack screw, but rather 2 or 3 smaller ones along the leading edge.

@@Ozarkprepper643 why would he want to adjust the dihedral angle of the wings? It only changes the stability of the aircraft, not performance. Especially when than involves applying more stress to already loaded components?

@@Ozarkprepper643 ok...i never heard of an airplane that does that. What is the model? And do you actually see a difference in performance (speeds, loads, etc) How do you adjust it? Messing with the characteristics of the plane without electronic stability is bold to say the least.

My guess is all the extra holes he drills is so that he can make a wing that extends out and in. So that when he wants more loft and slower speed can extend the wing out to be longer. Faster, pulls the length of the wing in shorter.

Like Mike said, though-“If there’s something I’ve missed, I want to know about it.” I take that as nothing less than a dead serious statement from Mike’s heart and soul. There’s no better or more terrifying moment (for an engineer) than to realize JUST before it’s too late-that your design has a fatal flaw. The thought that your design-as good as it was-could have killed people is bad enough. Now imagine being the person who noticed that flaw, but said nothing. No thanks. Despite being damn good at what he does, Mike is still human and thus, capable of missing something. “If you see something, say something-“ these aren’t just a cute catchphrase to appease the higher-ups; those words could literally save Mike’s, and his family’s lives. All of that said, if I ever see Mike do/build something I find questionable, I’ll hit him up without hesitation. I’ll happily annoy the shit out of Mike, a thousand times, before I watch him auger in once.

The arches indicate to me the ability to thicken the wind cord. And he appears to have developed a track system perhaps capable of adding another 6+ in to the chord width. And his strut attachment looked much more than just heavy duty. It looked capable of allowing dihedral, anhedral adjustment. Something I think he compromised on with Draco.

Hey Mike, i am guessing that these holes will hold some electronic motor to work the front carbon slots you made as i am sure as you mentioned they will actually be retractable so you can have ultimate cruise speed and max lift when you want to land and take off. You did show hints of some of the ribs being machined with the rails machined for that, its soooo great to be able to do that and have it, ultimate mix of speed when you want it and lift when you need it. :-)

Mike I'm in your head, IF, your Flaps and Ailerons were configured to both work as FLAPERONS and your Leading edge Slats were movable to the point of their trailing edges meeting the leading edge of the wing then you are creating a virtual UNDERCAMBER wing with about 30 or so more percent cord than the original wing! With an UNDERCAMBERED wing and 700+ horsepower you could probably get off the ground in the length of your plane, and when landing at SUPER SLOW Flight you Deploy the Spoilers and descend vertically to the ground with hardly any rollout, Winning every time in your class at Stol and Drag competitions! ?
