Love to hear him sing Hank Sr.'s songs. There's not a better writer than Hank Sr. and not a better singer than Hank Jr. I could listen to him sing his daddy's songs over and over.
listen to the song Standing in the Shadows....one of Hank Jr.'s best songs from the early part of his career....plus, what do you mean he quit....he had an accident and took a few years off to recuperate....when he came back, he had a different look (due to the amount of plastic surgeries) and a different sound (he needed a change of pace, musically).
Folks who aren't familiar with Hank Jr.'s pre-outlaw work MUST get a copy of his greatest hits and listen. You can also find a lot of that music, in RU-vid videos, from when he promoted the songs on Hee Haw. GOOD STUFF! Classic country music
The Essential Hank Jnr is a great one to listen to. I like a lot of his later outlaw stuff even his blues stuff , but the pre '76 stuff is my favorite. He really did some great stuff when he was just a teenager, but he was kind of feeling pressure to be a carbon copy of his father and that's not really what he wanted to be. He had to set himself apart.
What a good looking man he was. A great voice. I wish just once before he dies, he cleans up a little and plays some of the old country music along with his newer stuff. He is so talented. I am glad he still performs
He had much damage done to his face and body in his fall on the mountain in Montana. Multiple face surgeries scars are covered by the beard. He plays the old songs of his and his dad's at his engagements and has recorded most multiple times. He's clean now except for medicinal mj.

thanks for posting Hank Jr. before his accident so we can see he real Hank JR. who was expected to follow in his daddy's style seems after he changed looks, he changed hi style of singing but still does tributes to his dad.... Hank the 3rd sure looks the spitting image of his granddad but is a rebel also.... " family tradition "
He changed because the idea of trying to be his daddy for his daddy's fans tormented him. He had done it since he was 8 years old. Him changing was him developing his own style and it lifted a tremendous burden off of him.
I have lots of songs and singers save to my music list and when I start making a CD go play my favorites I always have more Hank and Hank Jr than anyone else
He was so amazing in all his old videos in this style of music, they are all great. Man imagine a live concert if jr impersonated sr just once.. just once... i would come all the way over from ireland to see it. Dame the thought of that makes me want to be born around the hank sr era..

Man hank had a voice so amazing at a young age. And my opinion is that he had one of the best voices singing his daddy's song and his own that man could play the hell out of some drums and piano and guitar lol and sing the hell of this song to

My mother always told me that Hank Williams Jr. didn't look the same as today. She said he fell over a mountain and needed lots of surgery, because he almost died! I just stumbled across this early video, and believe me, I wouldn't have believed this to be the same guy! He was very straight laced back then, before he got rowdy for sure! I can hear his dad in his twang though!
to all of the people commenting about how they dont like his change. He couldt be the spittin image of his father, he didnt want people just liking him for him just singin his daddys songs, he wanted to do his own style of country music, which still included his fathers twang. theres absolutely nothing wrong with that. through people leaving his concerts or people wanting more of his new style, look how far hes gotten. hes amazing, and idc what anyone says, i think he was cute back then and he still is now.
This was long before he had his accident falling down a mountain in Montana breaking every bone in his face because he was trying to live down the image of Hank Sr that everyone one of Hanks fans wanted Jr to be. And the pressure from his mom Ms Audrey Williams.
Both Hanks are great in their own right. Jr has a more projective voice than his father but his father's style of singing was great. Now when it comes to Hank III he sounds a lot like his grandfather and I had a hard time telling the two apart
Interesting to see footage like this from 1970 or thereabouts, before that terrible mountain climbing accident Bocephus had a few years later. I wonder why CMT doesn't dust off stuff like this to show instead of endless repeats of "Reba" or "Touched by an Angel".

Awesome performance!!!!! Alot of ppl give ole Hank Jr a hard time, but i think he's the greatest... I have afew doc video's of him talking about his Mountain accident.. He didn't loose site in his eye when it popped out of the socket... It just doesnt follow the other eye when he moves them..... kinda like they are out of time with each other.
What happened to this Hank, Jr.? If he would have kept this style he would have been a good successor to the throne that is still left empty since Hank, Sr. left.

He still does some of that...just not as much. During his acoustic set he generally breaks out at least one Sr. song, and even with the changes in his voice due to age and the Ajax Mountain incident, he can STILL sound just like his Daddy. He also does a killer J.R. Cash impersonation.

problem with "cleaning up" is that his face is now covered with scars and his skull is misshaped from falling off Ajax Mountain. That's why he let his hair grow out, grew the beard and always wears sunglasses.
