4:50 looks like the game has tried to draw a waterfall somewhere out of bounds, because you made the world smaller, but the game doesn't know about it and tries to draw stuff at normal positions, which are off the map

I decompiled the game, basically the game checks each tile in an area around your screen and checks surrounding tiles for each tile checked after a few initial passes, but if said surrounding tiles don't even exist, crash.

4:51 for my own experience, it looks like the game wanted to display a waterfall outside of the world border, which the game never thought to have it outside of the border, thus causing the problem

Can verify from my own experience that this is definitely what's happening. While I've never run into this, and I can't recreate it without being able to run TEdit, the thrown error perfectly matches this. Completely solvable by deleting tile data outside the expected bounds of the world, and if that doesn't work, by removing water inside that world border buffer area.

@@Toiletmonkey Yeah, if I had to guess, I'd assume the blocks of the world are stored in an array (sort of like programmer talk for a matrix), and the game tried to load a waterfall somewhere outside of the world, which gave an out of bounds error (essentially trying to call on a value that doesn't exist). I'm only a novice and a hobbyist when it comes to programming, so feel free to correct me if I said something dumb.

I don't think it's just a waterfall outside of the world tho, because I don't think the water block that causes the water to happen will be loaded if it's outside anyway. What I think is that there is a water block lying exactly at the world border, and the waterfall is precisely 1 block past that border, so that the water block causes the game to try to load a waterfall, and fails

this world is immensely, and unsurprisingly, broken beyond repair. the cobalt spawning text, the black void, the crashing zones, i can't think of anything else that makes a terraria world so ridiculously ruined.

By the time you fight the Moon Lord (assuming you only fight required bosses), the entire world will be 200x200. Most of my boss arenas are bigger than that.

It seems that everyone is talking about the waterfalls, I'll do the useless comment of "here's what happened" on the altars : -There were no Hardmode ores because the sizes of the patches are proportional to width of the world / size of a small world, rounded down. So any world smaller than small will generate 0 sized Hardmode ore chunks -Then the same messages : Terraria doesn't want to handle more than one ore generation at a time, and as it takes time because trying to generate at least one block with 0 sized chunks is quite impossible, when the other altars break, the first altar process says "forget, I'm not finished"

I was gonna say that's not true because I know it casts the value to a float ...however I noticed that it says "Cast is redundant", so... that means the cast is doing nothing and integer division is truncating the value. therefore what you're saying is correct. I can't say I understand why it gets stuck though

I 100% agree with you on the new npc-pylon stuff- I loved building huge bases where all my npcs could interact together and it was cool just having a giant village of people, the new pylon stuff is fine, but there was just something about having those big village/bases

I mean, as far as I’m aware, there’s not much of a negative to just going along and making the megabases ? Sure, you miss out on Pylons, but then it’s just the same as before. Unless there’s some big downside that I’m unaware of, because I like building multiple houses anyway.

@@chaeldabney4879 Why? The plantera bulb farm is still here, the lihzahrd altar and power cell will be cheated by him, he will add a dungeon point somewhere and pillars should have no problem spawning. The only issue could be random game crashing.

You should remove the tiles outside of the world's in game border using TEdit, I think that should prevent some crashes. There was an out of range exception, probably trying to draw a tile (Waterfall) outside of what can be drawn by Terraria as an application. I think there's a waterfall being drawn to the left out of bounds.

Reading the beginning of that error message, it appears something is trying to access an array but calling a number either above the array, or the array itself has a length of 0, and it's calling anything. Considering it mentions a FindWaterfalls() function, my guess would be that water is pouring to the edge of the map, but instead of having the usual blocks to bounce on a normal world border, it's probably trying to flow past the edge of the map and doesn't have any way of catching that error, so it just crashes instead.

Quick tip: wyverns can't spawn if the player is standing in front of player-placed walls, so you can just place a wall behind you and you'll be able to fish in peace.

tl;dr: I think the world size messed it up. Thought process: About the coding stuff and the index being out of bounds. i am no developer but it could be that it is looking for a world that is the normal size and when it searches somewhere that doesn't exist it returns NULL which is basically undefined and just has a breakdown. If anyone else has a better idea pls comment. Keep in mind i literally read only some of the error message but i find that if something major is wrong it spirals off into bad stuff happening and fixing one issue lets my code compile.

Ye, pretty much. The world is contained in an array, with the values of the array as coordinates. The map as Canadien cut it up is attempting to spawn a waterfall in a set of coordinates that isn't valid for the array (for example, trying to access column 80 in a 64x64 array). So it crashes.

Challenge idea: Extremely drunk world gen The biomes are shuffled, things that normally don't generate will generate, world size is unusual. Basically, fck the world gen up as much as possible with tEdit and beat terraria that way. Optional challenges: -Not the bees (not saying you should play on the seed, but larvae generate everywhere) -For the worthy lava (lava at surface level) -Spider walls near usually "safe" biomes -Pre-hardmode hallow -Pre-hardmode plantera bulbs Optional QoL: -Spawn with Journey mode items (iron tools, finch staff, fledgling wings, torches) -Infinite boss summons -Spawn with 2 life crystals

To make your fishing life easier, placing down player-placed walls will prevent Wyverns spawning on you. Another method is to have a living Town NPC nearby. They will only prevent Wyverns spawning, but does not prevent Harpies from spawning, so you can have your peaceful fishing.

I rarely did any killing sprees for unicorn horns, mostly just hanging out at surface hallow for everything there. Still, i always manage to get a couple blessed apples on every char i did, so i would suspect the drop chances are way higher than that. ALSO, wonderful idea for a series. Good luck with everything in it :3

Well they're much higher for normal unicorns, 1/40. It's just 1/800 for the statue spawned ones.

I do agree with you on the Pylon stuff, but Pylons to me are justification enough to challenge me to create microbiomes, or install settlements in other biomes with Pylons to act as shortcuts to grinding areas. The past two Master Mode runs I did (which I never completed because FUCK the Lunar sequence.) I made diligent use of them to get from one biome to the next, such as utilizing the Underground Jungle as a Plantera Arena shortcut or a quick Underground shortcut to fish for the damn potion fish. To each their own on how they build their world, maybe I'm just too used to large worlds giving me so much room for them. And with NPC happiness and weird Pylon requirements, is probably why they did add the Princess to make building these settlements a tad easier and less frustrating.

Terraria's crashing is most likely due to an enemy spawning in a different layer then they should because of code exceptions. I.e, the world shrinking causes the layers to stay the same, however the height as which you are changes. This is what most likely causes the problem. It could be because some enemies have spawn code where they only spawn at a certain elevation AND a certain layer. An exception in these could cause a collapse in the code. Along with that, the error points out small little things like waterfall or whatever, but that probably is just because that's the region that is getting affected with this unknown spawning.

Idea for next challenge - start off with just enough blocks to have a purity, ice, and desert and have the rest be corrupted/crimson and every time you defeat a boss you can convert a chunk of the evil biome into another biome to "cleanse" it

Hi! Loved the video,. Just had a great idea but don't know how to implement it but you might, a world that is upside down, meaning hell is where sky is supposed to be and sky is down, everything is flipped.

How about this for a challenge run, you have to place down a sapling and then you can go exploring your world, but if you return and the tree has already grown you have to dump your most valuable item. You would have to make sure that when you leave the tree is a sapling and when you get back the tree is still a sapling.
