delete it all, get rid of the egr and the stock vgt turbo. throw a non vgt turbo on it (more options for turbos) and run a custom file on it and you wont have to worry about anything unless it throws the whole bottom end haha
I had 2013 D13/Ishift , I had 60 series, N 14, Now driving 1999 Volvo with 3406E, 18 speed, I will keep her for a looong time, runs like a tank.. I’m local too around here
My last truck was a 2008 Pete 389 with 600 ISX, 18 speed and 3.73 rears. Loved the engine power pulling hills for 9 years before I retired and sold it to a logger, Yes, it had some expensive maintenance issues.
@@CustomRigs I bought a 2010 387 with the 450HP CM-871 earlier this year. 972K miles so I had it overhauled and having a rebuilt 13 speed installed today. No trailer yet so I'm running power only until I decide which way to go. Was going to buy a step deck, but rates are really low right now.
That 389 was clean. We run a handful of them down here in west Texas. Hauling frac sand in pneumatics and chassis. Everything else we have are Volvos. We run a Chinese brand tire too. They last longer than Bridgestones. Our rigs are off-highway more often than on. So price of tires makes a big difference when you have to replace them every 6 months anyways.
I’m OTR with a FLD classic with 3406e cat love this truck not very good fuel mileage but great truck never skips a beat I’m also sitting down at the love near port of Tacoma atm this place is a mad house
If you want to better place to take a nap go father down port of Tacoma road past loves there’s lots of places in the allys to take a nap. I hate that loves
@Dan Reardon also each owner has a different fishing tale...😩 So who knows what maintenance was done or if bought new. I mean gaskets and o rings are wear items.
@Dan Reardon yea, growing up my old man had a few corn binders that were 😺 powered. From playing in the sandbox hauling aggregate to containers.... Never really had too many issues. 4 and a quarter 🐈's, Cummins 350 or 400 Big cam was a hoss as well and favorites in our fleet.Me being the next generation is when we got into Detroit and beyond.🙄😏
Wow, didn't know that you've been an owner of that 1999 century to, it's been my truck from 2007 to 2011 then I sold to Vitaly.... I've reinstalled those silver fairings and bought a newer bumper which Vitaly then installed I guess, it was a god truck, in four years of being owner didn't have much problems with it and zero problems with engine ! See u in port and Goodluck.
Did you just research and find a local dispatcher to get you hauling containers? Saving to buy my own truck /start my own authority. Trying to gather all info and get off to a good start
Yes there’s problems returning empties back they give limited windows throughout the week. The vessel will charge trucking company after a certain amount of days it’s not returned back
If I had to get a semi I would have to get one with a 6nz cat n14 Cummins a big cam Cummins or a 3406b only cause I hate emissions they take down reliability
Try 5,000 for a tow truck and a new divider. Went to Florida and was 6.2 miles from the port. And the divider went. Got it to G.H. Truck repair in Jacksonville FL. Stayed in my truck from Tuesday afternoon till Friday. I didn't make any money on that run. But, that's truck y'all. Have the exact same truck as you driver! My 34inch Hodge quarter fenders just came in yesterday! And it's raining today. Sucks! Rain!!!
@@CustomRigs the power divider on the front drive axle. The divider comes with the axle/spline already built into the divider. Your driveshaft/ yoke attaches to that. The axle inside the divider twisted like a pretzel and my drive shaft fell.
Non vgt turbo is the way to go, $1500 brand new original Cummins turbo, been running it for a few months and couldn't be happier, pulls better runs cooler sounds better
Do you have issues when making right turns with a long wheel base? I’ve been driving doubles all my trucking career, I was thinking about buying a truck, but want to stay away from a long wheel base because I am not that good at backing up anymore.
Hey bro. I’m looking to get my own authority here in WA. And I wanna be able to do local container work as well, Would you be able to hook me up with who you work with for the Ports and a chassis?
I don't know why people rave about Cummins, they're expensive and break down like everything else. I'm guessing they're popular in the US because a lot of people know them but the rest of the world seems to do OK without them.
That's crazy that the port closes and makes you leave without your box. In Virginia as long as you arrive at the front gate before closing time you will be serviced.
How can i apply for a trailer driver in your country? I am willing 100% to work your company in a long long years, i am a trailer driver too in local here in philippines and in saudi arabia, can you please help me for my favor sir. Thank you and god bless...
Wait, I've always heard cat's are very expensive to fix, and your talking like cat's are as cheap detroits to maintain. Which is it? Are cat's expensive or not.. I currently have a Volvo with a d12 engine, it's weak but haven't had any major problems
@Don Johnson Check this out. So my daily Driver 4x4 Jeep needs a new Engine and guess what?? it will take me 3.5 months to get said engine built and shipped to me. And this engine I want is better than stock yes but not a crazy build. This whole administration has screwed things up so bad now that it's getting harder and harder to get even the basic things in life.
I ran a Volvo with a m11 for 3 years turbo let go I grand island Nebraska in 2019 boss swapped the turbo truck wouldnt do over 35 mph from Nebraska all the way back to southwest wi when them cummins run great cant bitch but one drop of rain hits it wrong the gremlins come out to play since then it's either 3408 cat or detroit 60 series but I will say that m11 had 3 million with only one overhaul done otherwise boss just did oil and filters he wasnt a good at upkeep period lol
@@CustomRigs do you know the names? I'd probably do this when I buy a truck. I feel like having just a dpf wouldn't be as bad as def and sensors and everything else.
You can always do a delete in the long run you save money 💰 , also get a tech who can rebuild the turbo for about $2,800, and final suggestion you can adapt a 60 series turbo and it works good have a buddy who did the mod.
I am considering going the Detroit turbo route before mine gives out.. you loose third stage engine brake. Hardest part is finding a good non VGT tune.
Super expensive to maintain.. but they can be good engines if properly taken care off. I’m happy to have got rid of mine after 3 years. Like the Turbo on Cummins is 9k vs 1.6k on a cat 😩
And a paid off truck that makes ATLEAST 80k a year and is paid off would love ok at the situation and the finances different as well. It's all relative and depends on your end goal.
Except newer trucks get worse milage? So I don't know what you're getting at. New isxs get worse mpg than an n14 from 30 years ago. Even if it did get better milage, you're still in the hole from buying a new truck. As well as replacing emissions equipment WHEN it fails. Nice try "Izabella".
How do the ports ban old trucks… they’re just getting rid of drivers.. what is this? Commiefornia? Smh. New trucks suck, they’re just comfortable and that’s all.
@@CustomRigs That's ridiculous. Good thing I never want to be a container driver anyways, even then I never want to go to the port if I can't bring my old truck just count me out..
Don’t let this dude talk you out of an ISX. most drivers don’t even know what tf they are driving. ISX are the easiest to do a full EGR and DEF delete and the easiest to put after market parts PDI parts that make your ride look crazy. just don’t live in california or any of the other blue states.
Most of the guys do just Def deletes on these Cummins and keep the egr because when you remove egr you have high egts and that’s where the problems begin. The heads will crack and you will be in shop after shop. We already know a dozen guys who keep swapping their isx with older engines like N14, Detroit and CAT.
