I am in luv again. The railgun against automatons is probably my go to now, didnt get back to its former state for terminids, but for automatons, it feels just as great as it used to Enjoy! Timestamps: #helldivers #helldivers2 #helldiver
I love that you guys are out there saying the amr is better or the laser cannon or autocannon! I think it goes to show that a lot of the support weapons are all at a fairly similar level in terms of Performance, better to have this than the "one clear winner" I think I'm preferring the rail gun for my playstyle atm but I think all of those weapons are indeed all insane. (My preferences seem to change every other day 😅)
Tough to solo with x4 the bugs. Everything slows you down even some grass lol, and railgun doesn't ever kill spore towers, unloaded a whole 20 shots, ands nothing wasting a whole raise the flag run with how long they take
@@JoeSaidReptilesdied so many times when i try to get my gears or supply but nope, my diver decided to be a monkey then got shot with a rocket to the face.
15:04 - The AMR. The AMR two-shots hulks and striders, one-shots devastators, kills tanks and cannon turrets very quickly from behind, deals with gunships easily, deals with factory striders. It also has better ammo economy than the railgun, and you can combine it with different backpacks for different playstyles. And comes with a long scope to boot. Against bots, to me AMR is number 1, laser cannon and autocannon make podium. Railgun is one of my favorite support weapons, but it's not in top 3 in my opinion. Also Takibo states that the railgun is "more versatile than other options because it can deal with everything on its own". I don't think this is accurate. It's actually autocannon, laser cannon, and AMR that do that; the railgun struggles against a list of threats that AMR, AC, and LC take down easily - gunships, tanks, turrets, they can even open containers and the railgun can't.
Laser cannon is actually the most versatile, takes down everything any other weapon can but slower on some and faster on others, and at infinite range. This includes bile titans. AMR is a more mobile AC without a backpack slot, so it has less ammo and less penetrating power, and anything both can take down AC takes down in half the shots. Only hulks are 2-shots for both AC and AMR, but AMR's larger bullet hitbox means it's easier to aim. Railgun has more penetration, so it's good for taking down heavier targets like chargers, but if the target is within the armor parameters of the other choices, the other choices win out every time. Even with hulks, railgun may be a OHKO, but consider you have to charge it just under 3 seconds, you can easily pull off lasering hulks to the face, or 2 shots from AMR/AC.
@@thepromman Precisely. At the moment, Laser Cannon is the most purely combat effective weapon for Bot play (but only if you have the hold on target muscle memory down). It doesn't close fabs, unlike AC or AMR, but grenade pistol does, so that's less of a big deal these days. Still, Railgun is basically just an easier to use Laser Cannon that can't handle gunships.
@@piercearora7681 the issue with the laser canon is 0 stagger. You might not insta beam a devastators head, and if that millisecond you don't stagger him, you get a volley of rockets or machine gun fire. AC>all for automatons.
How do you deal with Factory Striders with the AMR ? its my Top Tier Loadout ( AMR, Ammo backpack, Laser and Airstrike, + Scorcher and Grenade Pistol with Stun Granades ) but against factory Striders i only can shoot down the Small guns on the Bottom of his head ... Would be great for gettin tipps :) Ty
I have to disagree with your versatility argument for the Railgun. Its low ammo count and powerlessness against the really big stuff like Tanks, Striders, and Gunships railroad it (see what I did there) into its singular role of a hulk killer. The AC, AMR, and LAS-98 all perform much better against every single type of bot, except hulks, which they still destroy rather easily. The Railgun still needs some help to even be on par with those 3. The relatively small ammo pool and risky charge system make it feel like it should be a really heavy hitting gun, but it’s not. Its structure damage is pitiful, so it suffers greatly against Factory Striders, Tanks, and Gunships. It makes no sense that it’s as weak against large enemies as it is. Its projectile velocity is also surprisingly low, for a railgun, at least. The Railgun needs to bring the big stuff down easier, and some more projectile velocity would be very helpful for taking out Gunships. 4 max charged shots on a single Gunship engine is ludicrous. It can’t even down Factory Striders without resupplying mid fight, while the other 3 take them down without breaking too much of a sweat. The railgun needs some personality, something to make it unique and competitive. Not sure what that might be, but it needs something of that kind.
Railgun should probably Pen Everything in every Side and destroy Tanks in like 5 shots when charged over safe while. I dunno something also like 3/2 shots gunships everywhere while keeping it useless against bots structures or maybe even 5 shotting turrets from every side The problem is that this may be too strong, but would make sense for the Ultimate armor Penning weapon in the game, the idea should be “if i can see i can damage it no matter what it is” I guess should be balanced in a way that should make you choice what you want to kill, not just letting you kill some specific stuff fast: If i want to kill a Tank i dump 5 shots on it If i want to kill a gunship i dump 3 on it And in this way it would just make his shots valuable since they can “potentially” kill everything Downside Ammo Pack with this would be beyond Broken likely
I don't know what you're talking about but the railgun seems to do better against devastators to me. Auto Canon typically takes more shots, which means the extra ammo is not so much an advantage.
Suggestion: Do a video where you just go through all of your settings -- video, gameplay, audio, keybinds, etc -- and explain what you've got, and why you've chosen it, and supply some tips & tricks that people can do in the settings. My tip: I remapped the Stratagem callin buttons to the Arrow Keys instead of WASD ; and put "stratagem menu" to be on a mouse button toggle. Result: I can sprint/move while typing in stratagems. Click mouse button to pop menu open, move that hand over to the keyboard and punch in the code, then throw. Takes some getting used to, but I could NEVER go back to WASD arrows now. It's so good to be able to continue retreating from bugs while setting up an airstrike. Other tips could include: optimizing the game (there's a couple good vids on how to preserve graphics while improving framerate) , the smart-aim/ADS mode, turning up SFX over music to hear small things more, etc. These kinds of videos go over pretty well usually and are very easy to do!
Auto Cannon is overall best for bots above average at killing everything and can take out factories AMR is 2nd best, very similar to Auto Cannon doesn't require back pack slot but it cant take out factories Rail gun is Elite at killing Hulks and Devastator variants, but struggles against factory striders, tanks, vents and gunships.
Decided to try the rail gun for the first time after this patch and I LOVE it. It might not be the best but it’s soooo satisfying to charge up a shot in unsafe mode and blow the head off of something. Probably one of the most satisfying weapons if you time it right.
i run the dominator as my main so anything smaller than a hulk is no threat, railcannonstrike for hulks and rocket-eagle for turrets and tanks. i have no need for a supportweapon, so i usually just bring the spear to blow up factories from afar. lol
The problem with the railgun isn't dealing with hulks and devastators. The railgun is arguably the best weapon against them. It's the fact the railgun takes 10-15 high charge shots above 90% to take on tanks and turrets. With factory striders taking up to 18 shots on their belly or faceplate.
It’s not supposed to take out tanks and turret. That’s what stratagems are for. People can’t understand that support weapons aren’t supposed to solve all fights/engagements.
Exactly this, they have put the railgun into the medium weapon category alongside the AMR when it was previously able to deal with the big monsters without an issue, and to me this category doesn't make a lot of sense unless you have friends that are hardcore on tankbusting. I personally don't see any reason to not just take the expendable anti tank and use them when necessary alongside a very strong primary like the Eruptor that can deal with devastators, hive guards, etc.
My problem with the railgun is that it's basically a strict down-grade of the Anti-Material rifle. The AMR is semi-auto, can fire multiple times before reloading, has the highest tier of scope in the game, and in total lets you carry more than 30 shots. The RG has a charge time, fires a single shot before reloading, has a very poor scope, and only holds 20 shots. For this, you get a weapon that does equivalent damage, and still can't engage more powerful enemies. For what it is, the Railgun needs to be able to punch through the heaviest armor in the game, even on safe-mode. Any weapon that risks killing the user if you fail to use it correctly, just to make itself viable, needs to have something that it is better at than any other weapon in the game. The railgun just does not have that.
"For what it is, the Railgun needs to be able to punch through the heaviest armor in the game, even on safe-mode" Not really, it just needs enemies that let it work well. Bots favor the AMR and Autocanon because every bot has a weakpoint that allows their notably lower armor pen to still do its job. In theory the railgun has a role of little damage but consitent armor pierce which would make it great against heavy armor enemies that have spots carrying not much health. Unfortunately that role isn't being filled in the game as it is, all bots have weakpoints so you never need as much armor pierce as the Railgun can give. Bugs with armor a fair bit of health on their weakpoints making rockets more suitable.
Btw if you put it into unsafe mode and just shoot like a half second after it gets to safe, there seems to be a damage/armor threshold that dramatically increases its effectiveness. It’ll probably 1 hit through shields.
@the_takibo I think when ranking support weapons it is all about the playstyle of the individual. For me, I run the below build and have great results on helldive diffulculty. You should give it a try sometime :D 1 AMR (Devastators, Hulks, and walkers) 2 Orbital Laser (Large groups, Motars, Factory Strider, Bunkers, and Heavy Factories) 3 Orbital Rail Cannon (Large Targets such as tanks and turret towers) 4 Shield Pack (Personal Defense) Load Out: Primary: R-63CS Diligence Counter Sniper (Devastators and small guys) Secondary: Grenade Pistol (Destroys factories and gives you some area damage if needed) Grenade: Stun Grenade (gets you out of tough spots and helps with hulk shooting.) Armor: (I run heavy, but totally up to you.) Booster: Stamina NOTE: BESERKERS ARE YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE WITH THIS BUILD. I hope you like it 😁 -Drake
Btw idk if yk this but you can click around on the map and find side objs i didnt know this for a while but made my life so much easier on planets where the map is obscured
Been having a lot of fun with the Railgun lately. The thing wrecks chargers. two shots its legs and the armor is off. dont even need to charge it to 90%
Unless they've sorted it with today's patch I wasn't finding that - was taking 4-5 shots to take the armor off a charger's leg when I tried it a couple of days back. 2 would be OK but it still feels like a weapon in a kind of odd place.
Wow it can kill chargers in 2 shots AND you have to shoot the leg with your primary to finish it? Or I could just one shot them with EAT, RR, or Quasar lmao why would you take Railgun over that?
@@cd8086 because a quasar/EAT isn't going go to have as much of a good time against the 20 bile spewers, brood commanders, and the other "medium" enemies lmao. In my games, most people don't get killed by chargers, it's the other mobs that overwhelm them. It's nice to have a balance of EAT/Quasars and the railguns/autocannons/AMR on the team
I think the railgun is still great for bugs too if you pair it with the expandable Anti Tank, use the railgun to quickly take care of medium armored enemies and the anti tank for chargers and bile Titans and you still have 2 slots for eagles and orbitals
The railgun could already one shot hulks before the buff. Personally, it doesn't feel much different now, because a single shot is still all that's needed.
So I’m currently taking a break from the game for a week or two due to enemy spawn frustration, but something baffles me here: There are way, way, WAY fewer enemies here at 9 than what I fight at 3-5 solo. That’s actually low key irritating when I watch others do solo runs. Bots, bugs, both of them will have so many enemies and patrols, my game will end up lagging when it usually runs pretty smooth. Too many units to count, and that’s using stealth. But here it looked fun. Scary at times, sure, but not impossible or broken. I’m confused. Is 3 just *really* broken or is higher difficulty, weirdly, more approachable solo than it seems? I need rare and super samples but have a hard time dealing with people, so I stick to what is fun by myself (3-6). Or I did, until patrols seemingly doubled when there were already swarms for me. It’s like I always had the numbers for a full group. I dunno. Maybe the break will help but I can’t shake the feeling that something is just off.
what happened to you at 28:40 was happening to me constantly during a defend mission everytime i was laying down until i realized i had to stop laying down lol. I would be put into some sort of spectator mode above just watching everything and had to get someone to TK me because when I laid down while getting barraged by bots I stopped getting hit since that was why I laid down to begin with. not sure if it was because I was on some sort of slant ledge on the map like you were on the hill or what. super annoying but thankfully you continued to get attacked and looked like that knocked you back out of it. weird stuff
That chain of events at 28:36 was so funny! Blasted into a first person glitch, then into 4th wall mode, ended up in front of a confused Automaton, who then gets deleted by his buddies! 🤣
I think the Autocannon and the Railgun are very good for Bots, but for me the Top Tier loadout is the AMR, Scorcher, Ammo Backpack Orbital Laser and Eagle Airstrike, i run LVL 9 missions with that loadout like its Kindergarden ... of course there are sometimes a few Heavy Enemy Opponent situations where i also sweat a little bit, but all in all its a dream loadout :)
Using Unsafe mode for the Railgun can still be useful. You're capable of one shotting devastators if you miss their weakpoints when it's moderately charged. (This is from my experience, feel free to correct me)
Fun fact, you can instakill a factory strider by firing an unsafe (Idk if safe works) railgun shot at its underbelly and firing an eruptor shot into the hole it creates. This ALWAYS kills it instantly.
for me the railgun is the most mobile/range-versatile heavy weapon, and I say that over the AMR because the scope makes it less viable for me at close ranges
18:40 no. a player with autocannon main. biggest difference is i dont have shield pack. so no protection from impacts. with autocannon you can 2 shot hulk but needed to hit head. plus you can kill factory strider from below with 7 shot. bu railgun looks impressive. i love that gun.
i knew rail gun was mediocre vs bot and this video just confirmed. The only good thing it excels is at killing hulks, but people play with the stuff they have fun with. And that's fine..
bro, we just ran a test, because I could not even come close to doing anything on Helldive bots. Their aggressiveness and accuracy was nothing like what you encountered. My friend was having issues with his network and they could not hit him for shit. Meanwhile me, with sub 40 ping am getting lasered from half-way across the map accurately. Bots on your map were shooting wild, even sitting and waiting while you reloaded. I think you have shitty wifi, because there is NO way in hell that mission was representative of a real Helldive solo experience.
The railgun was never crap vs automatons. Been running it pre buff vs them regularly to great success. Still 1 shots scout striders and hulks and anything not a tank.
@@kylehallman8183 it's better to stick with scorcher against gunship if running with railgun. Takes several shots to take one down with it and you get staggered so much while charging and aiming
I find side objectives by either just stumbling upon them or spam pinging all over the mini map on what might be the right spots and then all other the rest of the map if the initial pings didn't get everything. Lol
I think the railgun needs a better sight, faster projectile speed, and higher damage at close to max unsafe charge. There's too much risk for too little reward with Unsafe.
The issue is that all it took was a factory gunship, and god forbid if you're unlucky 2 of them side by side, then you're gonna feel the big downside to having a railgun, as oppose to a LC, AC, or AMR.
Try the punisher plasma next time you fight automatons, 4 shots to body to kill devastators, staggers and damages heavy devastators through their shield, can stunlock multiple devastators at once
Very 'nice' macros at stratagems. Is it muscle memory or have you insanely memorized all those keys to hit without a mistake or delay? Even at 7:07, you called 'eagle strike' but pressed and highlighted the supply until you realized that particular stratagems wasn't available. I can't believe this-an easy game that doesn't even need a competitive script.
I would have brought the grenade pistol myself :P As for support weapons - it's Auto-cannon vs Laser and now vs Railgun. Though need to see how the Railgun handles gunships, as those are bloody hard.
Having most of the squad run versatile loadouts that can deal with anything imo is much nicer than everyone running specialized unless playing with friends or decent pugs. Doing helldives with people running specialized builds/fun builds isn't impossible but definitely is much harder and is pretty apparent with many in the community always complaining about devs since so many people run quasar to only be good for taking out dropships and hulks. With the increase in patrols, being a rat scurrying around can't be half assed imo, you either need to be a ninja or duke it out quickly and move asap. Alot of people half ass either playstyle and their loadouts don't help. For my own playstyle, I like hotjoining people on helldive to help out and I often see that the autocanon is a must have for that role. I often jump in missions that are fubar and the biggest reason I see is the simple fact that their loadouts are not reliable for helldive. The amount of times I see people having 10000 gunships or the mother of all devs rushing them and they're just running around waiting for their quasar and stratagems to come off cooldown is just funny. In the end though, 4 man helldive is still a joke so people should just run w/e is most fun for them, it is just a game afterall and a pve one at that.
Jesus H finally someone that isn’t delusional about this stupid gun lol. It was just fine before the patch and now they made it even better. You don’t even need unsafe mode anymore. It’s completely redundant now.
I still think that the normal Laser Cannon is underrated against Automatons, even after the buff/nerf in the last patch. I still play it on Planets who aren´t have the faster overheating thing.
As much as I adore the railgun, I believe the AMR is a better choice. But, I'm a really big fan of both. I do wish the railgun has a dmg buff, but im content with whre it's at. Hopefully they give it more love in the future.
I've never stopped using the railgun against Automatons. It's still very funny, just simply not good enough to justify using it when you expect at-ats and tanks. I do tend to use it a lot (even pre-buff) if people bring sufficient amount of anti tank weapons and/or stratagems.
I think the rail gun is no better against bots than it was pre buff. I used it before and after and found similar results but against bugs the rail gun is so much better against chargers.
I'm glad you made this, railgun wasn't even on my radar for bots. I'm gonna try out Eruptor/Senator/Railgun to see how that goes, seems like you can handle most things with the senator and railgun, then eruptor for specific explosions you need.
