@@CarObsession I actually ended up making my own catch can since posting this with a generic one off amazon for bmw. Took some customization but i got it done. I managed to run it against the firewall (which I was told shouldn't be an issue) so that it does not touch the engine. My only concern at this point is if it is ok that the two hoses touch?

Catch cans are useful if you have a direct injection engine. On port injection engines they are snake oil because whatever blow by they catch would end up burned in the cylinder if the catch can was not there.

Hi there, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
@JesseS420
@JesseS420 2 месяца назад
Completely false statement. On a stock car, it probably wouldn't matter. Once you have a turbocharged engine and it is tuned for power (port injected), you do not want oil getting into the air/fuel mixture as you can end up with detonation/pre-ignition and fouling of the spark plugs depending on much much blow by and oil you are atomizing into the crankcase. For a stock N/A car without direct port injection, sure you will not need one. For a turbocharged and tuned car it's best to use a catch can, or vent it directly out to the atmosphere.
@MrGustavosco
@MrGustavosco 2 месяца назад
@@JesseS420So let me see I got this right: you say my statement is completely false. Then you proceed to say that, unless you own an exceptional vehicle (turbocharged AND tuned, probably 0.5% of vehicles out there) my statement is correct. So what is it? For every statement there are exceptions.

so you say that burning oil is a good thing? what about carbon buildup inside intake manifold, catalytic converter etc...
@MrGustavosco
@MrGustavosco 2 месяца назад
@@MBB150-v5pAt least be honest if you want to debate me. I never said it’s good to burn oil, that would be incredibly stupid. Think about this for a moment: blow by is not pure oil, it’s a mix of water (from hot steam) and oil. A catch can ends up with what, 6oz after 3 months give or take? That’s 3oz of oil, assuming 50/50. It’s nothing. Then comes the intake valves which create a blockage on the way and then a lot of blow by gets on top of it over time. Without it getting washed by the gasoline from the injectors on the direct injection engines it accumulates

No....this comment has been a few times...it's just condensation most likely caused by doing shorter journeys. If I had a head gasket issue I'd have other symptoms such as white smoke from the exhaust, oil in the coolant reservoir, and a milky oil cap, none of which I have. I work in a car repair garage and the guys I work with say there is no problem (two of techs also have oil catch cans fitted to their car). I'll be honest, I'm getting tired of such comments being made.... Especially when there's people say mad things such as the catch can will stop my inlet manifold being lubricated 🤦🏽.

@@DLR369_ the air has moisture, the induction phase will evaporate that moisture in the intake process itself so the steam of that get carried and it would condense back into a liquid form in the catch can

Do your research. Don't listen to these social media mechanics. The can cause your rear main seal to blow and cause engine failure
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 11 месяцев назад
Out of interest, how would they cause the rear main oil seal to fail? I'm guessing it would be to do with crankcase pressure building up? I would imagine the worst that would happen is that the seal fails, causing an oil leak. I'm no expert, but I would have thought it would only cause an engine failure if the oil leak was left for so long that it caused oil starvation, causing the engine to seize? Also, on that note, I'm pretty sure an oil catch can would still allow the pressure to be relieved from the crankcase, so I can't see why that would cause an issue with the rear main oil seal. *** I've just one this past of the experienced technicians I work with (I work in a car repair garage) and he agrees, unless... "the oil catch can circuit is causing an excessive positive or negative pressure build up in the crankcase I can’t see why it would cause damage to the main oil seals". ***
