This is the best, clearest and most complete explanation I’ve found on RU-vid. Thanks! I’ll try to remember all this the next time I try to jump from 30 to 60 pushups per day from one day to the next. As another fitness person on RU-vid said, muscles develop strength much more quickly than joints… You’d think a person would learn to be patient by age 70 … sigh.

Great explanation. I believe this is what im suffering from. Have been dealing with flare ups of shoulder pain for over a year...im in physical therapy for the second time but the pain in the front of my shoulder is not going away. I have to be real careful at work with certain movements or a sharp pain hits. Everyday I wake up with throbbing shoulder pain. I just want some relief. Im not a big fan on taking pain meds on a regular basis. That will eventually cause other issues.

I have been struggling with a injury to my shoulder. Classic impact injury with my arm extended overhead. The shoulder was injected to relieve Bursitis and Tendinitis. Two weeks later, pain is back with a vengeance. Your information was very helpful. As a personal trainer,I am able to continue work with my clients, however simple tasks like putting on my seat belt, basically abduction are painful. I will attempt a few of the quick shots of rehabbing that were shown in your video. Hopefully they will help. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video…FINALLY someone who can explain what bursitis is what is it and how it can affect your movement when injured. You cleared so much of my problems for me. I’ve been suffering with tendon issues since I was 20 and no matter how much I tell my doctor what is going on no doctor can diagnose me. Not even orthopedic docs either. You cleared this up in just a few minutes.

I can trace back the original injury to 35 years ago, pulling the dog leash in an external movement. After that, I would trigger it every spring or summer pitching a baseball. Later on swimming front crawl, the recovery stage, became a painful issue. Your explanation of the difference has really helped me understand and identify what my issue is…..including the acute pain increasing during the night! Thank you. I will put treatment suggestion to the test!

The explanations on posture and predisposition made me remember I knew the arms of my chair where too high for me and so my shoulders are being pushed upwards, predisposing me to suffer injuries. My problems started to be obvious around a year and a half after I got this chair, and I haven't been able to get rid of them completely. I had noticed problems with chairs before and I solved them by sitting on one or two books to get to a comfortable height for my arms. Now I just did that in this chair and already started feeling relief. One or two inches make all the difference in the world in chair arms height. This is the most complete explanation of shoulder problems I have ever found. Thank you very much. I already subscribed to your channel.

Thanks for explaining this so well for us laymen. I am currently in PT for both shoulders and I have no idea of the cause other than over the years I would occasionally have a bursitis flareup. This time, it includes my muscles from the shoulder to the elbows. Sleeping is the challenge. Thanks again for excellent explanation of the condition.

Would love to hear more about increased tendonitis in post- menopausal women and how to cope with that. I’ve been to PT so many times for various tendon issues. This is the first time I’ve understood why I keep getting bursitis as well.

Excellent and detailed breakdown of shoulder anatomy and bursitis! For me, it was overhead pressing and bench pressing which initially caused the pain, but I think using my dominant hand / arm for all my daily activities, and a bad habit of sleeping on my arm in the exact position you mentioned to avoid, are preventing it from healing, even though I'm avoiding the originally injurious exercises.

Are you me? I'm a mailman(repetitive use) and sleep on my right arm too often, and noticed that I have fatigue and a lag on the right side when benching and shoulder pressing. I took a 3+ month break from lifting and the issue persists. Has your condition improved?

40 years of finishing drywall has caught up with me . I was spanishing a small ceiling and I had a very hard time completing the job . I'm with V A and have gotten many x-rays, etc . I need to relax the right shoulder a while and see a specialist soon . Thanks for informative video.

5:45PM EDST My daughter just tied a long scarf around my body and right arm with the idea it would prevent me from inadvertently raising it and causing the intense pain😢 I’ve been experiencing for months. Im stuck in another country , for no apparent reason while in bed I started with slight pain , by morning it was pretty bad, by the end of the next day I had extreme shoulder pain even while at rest with arm at my side, now 4 days in the pain has eliviated à little but I can't lift my arm more than a few inches without incredible pain. Thanks for this very clear understanding of whats going on. I wish I had bought an automatic car though as I need to drive home in 10 days, this stick shift is near impossible !

Hi, thank you for the great explanation. So I went to a physiotherapist and she told me I was suffering (in French): arthosis, tendonitis and bursitis and I had no idea what the latter was. Now I know lol. Got some work to do.

I've had both, and I can't imagine how one can be mistaken for the other. Tendonitis recurs. ALWAYS from overuse. In my case, from lifting weights. Bursitis was a one time thing. First in my right shoulder and a couple of years later in my left shoulder. Tendonitis did not limit shoulder mobility. It just hurt while lifting. Bursitis severely restricted shoulder mobility, but only hurt when I tried to extend my range of motion. Tendonitis is easy to cure. Rest a week or two and avoid activities that hurt. Rest did nothing for my bursitis, even after a year. I only got my mobility back through daily stretching exercises that HURT LIKE HELL.

Thank you so much for your explanation, after watching all these videos on shoulder pain ,I still was very much confused about my shoulder pain , you explained my shoulder pain perfectly , I can basically do anything with very little to no pain , but when I I have to left my arm , mainly above my head , it seems as though my shoulder is stuck with very little to no mobility and with excruciating pain , bursitis maybe ?

@@neilnewton4427 That is exactly what I had. And my father had, and my grandfather had. Unable to raise my arm above my head. In fact, I should have mentioned that. Bursitis. I cured it by grabbing the top of a door and stretching it through its full range of motion. Just like my father used to.

Hey John, thanks for watching and sorry to hear about your shoulder. That's awesome you have a PT friend in Eugene! I would recommend interviewing PT clinics to find one who is a board certified orthopedic specialist and also gives you 100% undivided treatment time - something we do here at my clinic in OR but is more and more rare. The new approach to tendon remodelling does require some specific techniques and careful loading and is quite different from the 'traditional' PT of recent years. Someone who also works with athletes may have this newer approach hopefully. Wish I could be more helpful but stay positive, keep working and don't give up!

That’s a great simple video, I have tendinitis bursitis arthritis at 62 and I weight Lift. I had to omit or anything overhead for 6 to 8 months, and continue doing the exercises prescribed by a physical therapist, along with injections of steroids.

Thank you your your insight, your very knowledgeable. I'm a Land Surveyor Tech was quite active prior to my injury now then I am now. Been grounded in office no filed work these pass months. Recently I've been having issues in my left shoulder and I can't quite pin point it. Originally I injured my right on the job 7 months ago Oct, got my doctor send me to PT. The PT group were awesome people in easing my pain completely within 4 months Jan. However my pain switch to my left shoulder 3 months ago Feb its mild but is still uncomfortable. Doctor says i may have over compensating my left to my right. At home I been applying the PT exercises learned for my right shoulder but the nagging pain still persists. Yesterday day was my first full Field Day of land surveying. Fun day but this morning my shoulders are a bit stiff. Its sore but I toughing it out, lol. I'm scheduled to go back to PT upon the call. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks again for your expertise, your apart of a wonderful group.

This video was absolutley amazing. I had an injury over 5 months ago however I wasn't sent to PT until 2 months later. they diagnosed me with frozen shoulder and acute pain. I still am experiencing on going pain with various motions and everyday task. They doctors as well as the Pt really havent fully explained anything to me, but after watching your video I feel much more informed and aware of my condition. With this information I will be asking more questions and for another diagnosis and further look into my condition. Do you have an knee and hand videos ?

This was helpful and meshes well with the doc's brief explanation. I got a diagnose of rotator cuff tendinitis and bursitis today. Doc put an ultrasound on it and could see a "capsule," something inflammed. She put a needle with some kind of medication in there. I started feeling better within an hour...and through the day I have been gaining more pain free mobility. After several hours, I can tell I am getting more and more relief.

As a follow up, several weeks later. I was 90% better at the end of a week. I'd say now I'm completely healed up except I did do a really stretched reach at the grocery store to get somethng on the top shelf and I felt a warning twinge of pain in the shoulder and stopped immediately. Other than that, 100% recovered. Whatever that medicine they put in my bursa, it really did a great job.

@@dolin7645 sounds like you got a cortisone injection my friend. They are very effective but most people will end up getting them two or three times a year as they don't really heal but they do give great pain relief for many. Bottom line is that that's a great thing for you and if it works that's fantastic! A lot of people have success and just make sure that you also care for that shoulder with regard to doing some basic movements that will help strengthen it also. So happy for you!

@@amandaluxmoore250 Sorry for the late response. Yes, the needle hurt, but the whole time I was thinking, IT'S WORTH IT if it takes away the pain. And it did for me. The length of time it took to give the shot was short. The ultrasound meant that she could go directly to the capsule and then she got out. They did a freezing spray for the skin first to numb the skin. That helps upon entry.

@@john-carlosynostroza I hope I won't need to get a shot there any time soon. So far the shoulder is doing great. I have begun to strengthen it too. I should have asked what kind of injection it was. I was in so much pain when I got it that I would try anything. But it's doing great now. I still favor it some, choosing to do something above my head with my other arm, but that isn't because of pain. I think I got used to reaching with the other arm.

Thank you doctor for your great help. Dr i hart my shoulder from falling two and half years a go TENDENAITS and Bersits i do have fairly movement and fair energy but after all this time i still have pain when i lift for strength and when i slip by my side. Is serjery dolution for this ? My only problem is the PAIN
