Cool video dude dude 😀, The Turbo X 😍 rocks! Really interesting how rare they are, I think I’ve only ever seen one on the road ounce or twice. Definitely one of my top three, if not my number one favorite Saab’s of all time. Hope it’s had the timing belt done, it would be really sad for it to snap and bend the valves on such a special Saab.

The turbo meter is a homage to the first Saab 99 turbo that had the same color scheme

Long story short, when are you selling it to me, man? Great review! My friend had a used (gifted by his boss) Saab in the Bay Area in late 90's. I thought it had the coolest wrap-around windshield!

My saab has the same color, it is very nice in direct sunlight when it gets this purple'ish tone to it.

Lovely car and I like the unique wheels, for anyone in the UK, there is actually a 2008 turbo X for sale on ebay for £5400 at time of writing and no its not mine, i have 9-3 diesel turbo edition.

The main reason for limiting top speed is safety. There is some engineering to cost in there too. For example, tires with higher speed ratings cost a lot more and one way they shed the additional heat from higher speeds is to be thinner. Thinness comes at the cost of reduced puncture resistance. In the old days, this didn't matter because most cars could not go fast enough for high speed induced tire failures. The larger brakes you mentioned were probably required to remove the speed limiter.

Steering wheel is unique to the turbo X. It's bit thicker than the other ones. Altough it's a great steeringwheel I decided to go for the Hirsch wheel which has a even more dynamic look to it and features a flat bottom. You also have a personlized message in the SID when starting up.. and it can be changed with the Tech2 :) BR SaabCars

The front rotors are 345 mm from factory at the turbo x, the steeeingwheel is also unique to the Turbo X, it is thicker than the aero steeringwheel, a special feature that also was unique to the turbo x in the 2008 modelyear was the eLSD (electric (rear) limited slip differential), it was later featured to the 2009 modelyear but was only avialable to the turbo x in 2008.

You advertised a portable jump box in one of your videos. Who made it? Have you had to use it? What is your review of that product (if you can say).

Wasn't really big on Saabs when they were new but gosh the aged well they still look so modern

Question: I have a low mileage 2008 9-3. This summer when very hot out, kind of an on and off screeching noise comes from under the hood apparently or maybe from some a/c part. Then it goes away. It comes back without warning. Before taking it in the shop, can you maybe identify potential problem? Thanks.

Isn't the torque limit on other SAABs related to boost pressure and able to be eliminated with a tune? Maybe I am wrong but I have an 01 9-3 and I could swear when I had it tuned the tuner told me that the car was normally boost limited lower in 1st and 2nd gear but that after the tune all gears would be equal. Is there something else limiting torque?

A 9-3 TX is one of my dream cars, but they are 80K$ I'll have to win the lottery first. Love your TX and hope you're satisfied for a good time with it. However, I'm planning on getting rid of my Audi now to get my hands on an NG 9-3, most likely a 1.9Tid/1.8t, or a Aero TTiD if I can manage to stretch my budget. Had 2 9-5's in my past, and just want to get back in a Saab again and try a 9-3 for once.

Hey, i just bought a 2009 9-3 aero xwd. It has the 2.8l v6 and the front splitter/carbon fiber/ basically everything except the exhaust, spoiler, and wheels? is this how all 09 9-3 aeros were?

its easy now to remove the TQ limiter on the 4cyl now....we just gave a stage2 tune up to a 9-3 linear 2.0t and it moves out and burns the 15" tires off after brake spooling the turbo up...off the line

I bought a turboX last winter. 6 speed manual sedan. 86k miles on it currently. Has the navigation but for me it is just a larger screen because I don't even have the nav disc.

Do you know if the diesel models have a torque limiter?

T8 saabs have limiters in each gear. but 3 to 6 are limited to a higher torque number than the engine has. i miself have a 2.0T and i've been playing with the torque limiter in 1st and 2nd just to have fun spinning the wheels.

You CAN remove the torque limiter on a regular 9-3 through a tune, my tuner does it

I do believe that steering wheel is unique to the turbo x. I have a 2008 XWD aero. it has a very similar wheel except the part of your wheel that is perforated black leather is silver plastic on mine. If it's not on a nearly identically speced car from the same year what other car might it be for? maybe there is a saab head out there who knows more.

Do you know if it's possible to change the front end of a 93 from old style light to facelift lights, looks like you would need to swap out the lights/ side fenders/ bonnet and bumper, But do we know if the Chasis is the same so the facelift parts will bolt strait on? I love my 2005 93 in every way, I've added window tints/ the silver rear lights/ rims/ non stock boot spoiler and it really stands out and is admired by people in my street, however I do like the facelift front end

that down low acceleration is not the awd ,,, its the v6 bosch ecu ...the v6 dosnt have tq limiting as bad as the T8 4cyl

10 years after buying one of these new I still look forward to every drive. It's a great car..... of course it's one of the 211 6 speed manuals. I love it when youngsters tell me they can't drive a stick or they are afraid they'd get tired driving a stick in stop and go traffic....no problem! Fun fact: There are fewer XWD manual Aeros than TurboXs. 204 vs 211. I was lucky enough to grab one with only 38k miles. Hmu of someone wants to buy it off me, I kinda have an itch to get a MR2 haha.

BS, of course the torque limiters for first 2 gears can be turned off at will, there's nothing special with the ME9.6 software in the TurboX, it was the same as in the "standard" Aero of 2008 (all B284 9-3s have the same Bosch ME9.6 EMS). The maps to look at are called: KFMDBGRG_0_A, Engaged gear torque limitation 1 and KFMDBGRG_1_A, Engaged gear torque limitation 2. One "drawback" of the TurboX is that due to the torque limiters being turned off, it's not allowed to have a tow hitch on the TurboX. On 4-cyl SAABs with Trionic 8 it's even easier due to the devlopment of Trionic Suites, I strongly advice against it though as transverse gearboxes are small and do not really like high torque wheelspin. The steering wheel is different, and there was an option for premium TurboX leather seats too (those were not standard), and of course the 19" TurboX wheels. There were actually mostly cosmetic differences between a TurboX and standard V6 Aero XWD of 2008. In 2010, you could even get the option "TX" and have most of the TurboX-look (grey stuff instead of alu, carbon interior and so on). Top speed is limited to 250km/h or 151mph. That is very easy to up quite a bit. A stock TurboX will not do much over 250 though as the XWD robs the car of a lot of power. Speaking of the XWD, it's nothing special actually, just a fairly standard Haldex system. Makes you quick in the start, slow on the top and sets you back loads for service and parts (and you're gonna need a lot of both as the system is fragile and SAAB forgot to add it to the standard service).
