According to Edmunds the MSRP for a 2022 Nissan Kicks ranges from $19,800 to 22,340. To ask $33k for one is outrageous. Even the approx. 28k negotiated price in the article was in no way any sort of bargain.

I ran into a car salesman, driving a new RAV4 hybrid. When I asked her about markups. This is what she said. Her dealerships owner was very upset about other dealers marking up car so aggressively, so they've agreed to only ask for a maximum of $3,900 above MSRP. Isn't that nice of them.?

You might be right, I might be wrong. But I remember from 2009 until 2013,14 buying cars with 20% off msrp. I bought a 63k msrp ford truck for 51k. I bought a car just last year 22k msrp for 16k. If people stop buying these overpriced cars, the stealerships will be forced to lower their prices, it’s that simple. History repeats itself my friend, do you remember when the government had to bail out almost every car manufacturer, it will happen again

Picked up our brand new ordered 2022 Subaru Outback today (took 2.5 months), but with Costco discount, got it for about a thousand under MSRP. Dealer we got it through otherwise charges MSRP, while other dealers in our city charge MSRP++. When ordering, we had to make sure that they would do so without doing window etching that they automatically do on any other inventory. They tried to slip it in on the paperwork in the F&I department, but took it out when I complained ($499!). They also wanted me to sign a payment page that didn’t show an interest rate, showing optional payment amounts based on length of term and financed amount. I used a payment calculator ahead of time knowing how much the total purchase was going to be with TTL and dealer fee, and how much I was going to finance, and their page was showing a payment that was about $20 higher per month than the 1.9% rate I knew I qualified for on the 48 month term (meaning they were going to charge more than 1.9%). You HAVE to be EDUCATED and PREPARED. Thanks to watching many of your videos, I felt comfortable I wasn’t going to get taken, but I had to go into it expecting they would try (and they certainly did). In today’s environment, I felt like getting a new car for under MSRP was a win.

I bought a 2021 Kia Forte GT, last April. I used True car. So went to the local dealership Truecar, recommended. I was satisfied with the Truecar price. First thing the sales manager says to me, the price of the car is 1,000 more than what I was quoted. I looked at him, and showed him my phone with the 19,800 price. I then told him, you are a truecar dealer? he quickly said yes. I ok, 19,800 is the price of the car. he then attempted to add on extended warranty. I told to take that off. then in his last gasp try, he tried to add $1000 for DMV Fees. before I could say something. he said I will make that $500, which I replied no make it 0! I told the salesman, his manager almost blew the deal.

I had an experience yesterday literally same mark-up as this one, BEWARE Kailua-Kona Aloha KIA. I was looking at a KIA Seltos 'S' Trim to be specific. When I asked the dealer what's the price on the vehicle he said $32,000.00😳. Next to the 'S' Trim was a 'Nightfall' Trim of the Seltos and the dealer told me if I'm looking for 4WD I might want to consider that one instead cause the 'S' Trim they had was FWD (what a ridiculous mark-up for a FWD. But then I proceeded to ask him the price of the Nightfall and he walked up to the sticker and was shocked himself to tell me $32,000.00. I was taken aback, how is the lower trim FWD same price as the higher Trim 4WD I already realized yup this was not a dealership I wanted to deal with. But my BF felt otherwise(he doesn't watch YAA) so he doesn't understand the ridiculousness. He told them he wanted to put $5,000 down and the Manager said we would have to put atleast $10,000 down. My boyfriend said he would probably go as much as $9,000 down I was in the car with my babies during all this. But my boyfriend returned to the car told me what the manager said and then told me he agreed to $9,000 instead and I told him, "no let's go." I definitely need to do better research and be more prepared next time. It's a shame cause other people who don't do any amount of research would've just bit the bullet.

Got a used 2020 4Runner the other day with my wife. I put 4K down and traded in a 2021 Avalon we didn’t like and I could barely fit in it (I’m 6’8”, 320 lbs). I owed $46k. They paid $38k for it. Nevada Sales tax rebate washed out the remainder of the negative equity. My $4k down washed up the rest of it. So asking price was $39k plus taxes, gap, title and doc fee. They tried to automatically add the extended warranty and paint protection, but I said no. So instead of a $48k loan, it became a $44k loan. I just wanted to stay as close to the retail value of the vehicle on the LTV, which is what I told them. I also asked for the “buy rate” and I also asked if there were any banks that accept kickbacks on interest rate discounts by adding any products. They took it off and relented. Done deal. They even bought us pizza lol

Really, a person can buy the best paint protection for about $50 and apply it in a half an hour with a couple of microfiber cloths. That $50 will provide several applications. Toyota universe advertised all their new cars online for under msrp and offer the option to see the price with cash, financing, and lease. They didnt honor the online price and he refused to tell me otd price until after a manager came. They then showed me the document where the otd price for a rav 4 le msrp $30000 came up to $37000. He was willing to go half way on the markup. I walked but now im wondering if that was the best offer in these times. Do you think it was smart to walk or should I have accepted? Any advice?

I would prefer dealing with the mafia than some car dealers. One salesman on the phone told me they wouldn't sell at MSRP and would not give me an out the door price on the phone because they had certain dealer markups (about $3 to $4 thousand) that could not be waived including, get ready for it, nitrogen filled tires. I told him that if he is pushing nitrogen tires he has lost all credibility and I couldn't do business with him. Just say no to these snake oil salespeople. I found another dealer that sent me the OTD price by email with MSRP, taxes, title, etc., and no add ons. The vehicle is on its way to the dealer with my fully refundable $500 deposit on it, just in case I walk away from the sale. It makes no sense to walk into a dealership except for the initial test drive.

@CarEdge
@CarEdge 2 года назад
Morgan, the doc fee is a profit center for dealerships, they charge it essentially for preparing all the documents that are needed to complete the transaction. In some states the fee is capped, California for example the doc fee can not exceed $85, other states have no cap or limit on the amount of the doc fee. I would say today the national average is probably around $500, so is is reasonable? Yes, in comparison to what we see out there. You can ask the dealer to lower the selling price of the vehicle by the amount of the doc fee but don't be too surprised if they won't based on today's inventory challenges. All the best, Ray

Really? I don’t doubt one but select few do find very good deals but that is rare and must assume conditional to the demand and how long the vehicle has been on the lot or months end for that commission. But if vehicles are not available and sold has they come in there is no reason for a dealer to mark below MSRP. He will sell the next buyer. My area has no vehicles and are reserved before they arrive. Right now I have Elantra coming been waiting a month and to be here this week. MSRP plus 500 off due to this months factory incentive
