When it's prime fishing season, sometimes you gotta go deep in the backcountry to find fish that don't see as much pressure. We hiked about 12 miles total this day chasing cutthroat trout and Drew missed his chance to land a huge bulltrout!

Heading to the Idaho Falls area next weekend. Bringing the Sawtooth rod with me. Only fished the Reservoir before in that area. Can you recommend a fly shop nearby that can point me to some river access points?

What rods were you guys using? This is what I do with my fly rod but want a tenkara for those long hikes up!

Ya Tenkara is so perfect for anything in the backcountry because there are so many times you want to fish but the thought of breaking out your traditional rod and reel and assembling it just to hit one spot and then disassembling it to keep moving is tough. The Tenkara is lightweight and you are fishing in under a minute easy.

nice! do you wade in backpacking boots? or hike in wading boots? or do you have multiple shoes in your bag?

haha great question and we are always experimenting. For this hike tuna hiked in hiking boots and then ended up wading in them. I wore trailrunning shoes and brought wading boots in my bag, but then just ended up hiking out in wading boots. So a little of both. what do you prefer?

Its a TOPO designs klettersack. I like it because it has two water bottle holders (I use them for rods and nets) on each side, a top zipper pocket, and then the main big compartment for miscellaneous items.
