My favorite WWF Intercontinental Champions Chyna, Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, Ken Shamrock, The Rock , Mr Perfect, Jeff Jarrett, Goldust, Randy Savage, & Stone Cold Steve Austin
@JohnACorp782 okay, it means jackshit now (Thank you Vince! Prick... At least have it show up. Damn.) But when Seth Rollins had it in 2018, it was around at least. Also, it's Seth Rollins, a clear main eventer (not on the level of the Rock or Stone Cold or Eddie or Y2J, but he's bigger than those who have had it up to that point, and it in my opinion was the last time the belt felt important. Of course, I wouldn't know about importance, me growing up with SmackDown in the Ruthless Aggression era, the Intercontinental Championship didn't exist as far as I was concerned until 2005 and I finally saw it defended when it came to SmackDown in 2010 (?). Sadly, it was just too little, too late. But I always grew up thinking that a title was a title, it didn't matter if it was a Tag Team title, a Cruiserweight title, a United States title (though I never understood why would they limit themselves like that) or a World/Heavyweight title. If you had it, it was because you were the best in a crop of people who fight for it. The problem is when everyone looks weak against the champion, then no one can feasibly beat him in theory. When the champ looks weak against everyone, then we would ask if we didn't know better: "HOW DID THAT PERSON GET HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?" Which throws everything out of whack. Now the Attitude Era (and Randy Orton's reign as IC Champ) was the last time the IC Championship meant that you were destined for greatness. Of course, the land of pro wrestling was different then. That's not gonna happen again because it just won't work unless more people are able to take risks. That's why Shinsuke Nakamura isn't doing the title any favors right now, nor it for he. But if he was allowed to take liberties so long as it was within what Vince wants, I think Shinsuke Nakamura could stay relevant and hype up the IC title without being on TV! Just see how Chris Jericho does this with the AEW World Title. If all champions were able to do this, I think titles would mean more in general
@@michaelhickman5122 only yellow, shawn was first to have it on blue. And reggie parks version was never on a green strap that was the ic belt before reggie parks
The most beautiful IC belt was the design from the late 80's to mid-90's, which was held by Savage, Steamboat, Warrior, Mr. Perfect, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. That belt design came from a time when WWF belt designs including the Winged Eagle and tag team belts were beautiful.
The ultimate warrior wasn't even an amazing wrestler, in fact he was average in ring. Wrestling wasn't really wrestling back in warrior's day, it was more a lot of gimmicks and controlling the crowd. Stars today can do both and are especially better in ring than warrior was.
Kofi IS bad!! Hes fucking VANILLA AF!! He has no type bn of charisma or anytype ofmpull whats so ever. He has to be one of the worst WWE CHAMPIONS IN WWE HISTORY!! and before yall say im a hater, let me ask u this... would u put him in the same category as Stone Cold,Kurt Angle,Chris Jericho,Randy Savage,Bret Hart,Triple H,Etc?? EVEN CHYNA WAS WAAAY FUCKING BETTER THAN KOFI!
My top 10 IC title matches 1. Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania X 2. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio The Bash 2009 3. Cactus Jack vs. Randy Orton Backlash 2004 4. Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog WWF SummerSlam 1992 5. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho Royal Rumble 2001 6. Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat WWF WrestleMania III 7. John Morrison vs. Rey Mysterio 9/09 Smackdown 8. Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect SummerSlam 1991 9. Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels SummerSlam 1995 10. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio Extreme Rules 2009
My favorite IC title design was the purple one the Rock made famous in 1998.. a year I hold dearest to my heart.. the year I became hooked on wrestling
I like the Attitude era IC belt more than the “classic”. Yes, I know the history behind the classic. It’s the one that Savage, Steamboat, Bret, HBK, Razor and Austin held. But the Attitude era’s design is so much more distinctive. No other belt ever had the large oval center plate like that IC belt had.
I think the most beautiful IC belt is the original attitude era one with the purple strap. Colored straps often give an air of prestige to belts in my eyes, and the shade of purple they went with is my favorite color in general. It's really a shame, if it were around today there would be so many copies/backups on hand that the strap turning black wouldn't really be a precipitable issue on TV, not to mention that the belts are just generally looked after much better now then they were back then. Great video! I hope we get an update to this vid someday.
Excellent vid. My only gripe, if we can call it that, is that there's no mention of the snap closures in each version. Not terribly important or relevant for that matter, but I've seen Rick Rude hold the strap and it had a boat load of snaps, so it piqued my curiosity of what the standard might be, or a modification or something. Nonetheless, great vid.
Frankly, The Reggie Parks IC design should have been the TOP Heavyweight Championship Belt as it looked more like an upgrade to the Hogan '84-'85 Belt. It was an over-rated apology to Tito that Greg Valentine destroyed the Green Strap IC Belt.
Great vids Champ !! I really like the Intercontinental title belt but my favourite will always be the ruthless agression versión that Christian won in 2003 that was beautifull.I hate te current one with the White strap
You missed an entire belt. Before Tito and Greg's green strap Don Muraco had V1 of green strap which had a totally different main plate. Muraco is the only person to have worn that version.
There was a time when these gold belts were reserved for the top workers ....now there just props for anybody .. Shame ..i know im old, but i miss the golden age of wrestling😁
@@dub5107 so true. Todays wrestling is horrible. When I was 5, I remember watching the old Saturday night main event episodes and my mom yelling at my grandpa for for letting me stay up and watch them lol. The golden era was definitely 84-90. Then it started going downhill
I always thought that they would take the plates off and add them to other straps but Bruce Pritchard said all the different colours were completely different belts and Shawn would have different colour belts depending on what belt they had lying around backstage. Warrior had a bunch made for his run so they had a bunch.
Kofi Kingston was pretty damn good with the IC Championship there has been guys that shouldn't have held it like Santino he's some what funny but he shouldn't have been IC or US Champ.
What strap colour did hbk use mainly with ic runs ! Black white or blue ? I'm ordering the classic ic but I want Shawns main colour stuck between black and blue
I appreciate this video is 8 years old now but it would have been really helpful if you’d done a side by side of the titles as they change so we could visibly compare the changes but good video nonetheless!
whats with the kingston dig?! hahaha he works his ass off but isnt main event ready yet, thats exactly what IC title is for! haha love the videos though, good work.
The best era in wrestling was when you had to WRESTLE your way to title shot. Like Mid Atlantic Championship wrestling in the late 70,s early 80,s. they had the World TV Championship, the Midatlantic Championship which was the equivalent to the I C championship at WWE,,, the world Tag team championship and then the BIG BOY the Mid atlantic World Championship was later changed to the NWA. The wrestling magazine even had the rankings for the wrestlers in line for a title shot. PRO WRESTLING Illustrated was what it was called. The first one i ever looked at had Super Star Billy Graham as WWWF World Champion on the cover saying ,,,I fear no man ,except one ,, that was in 1980 ,,, he later would loose the title to Bob Backlund. Those magazines are now collectors items but those were the good ol days of wrestling to me.
The Purple Strap Oval Globe World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship Belt from March 30, 1998 to October 17, 1999 was really very much intended for the "New WWF Generation" Era, hence the Block Logo being on full display. As far as the Belt itself, no real issues with the design and Strap color. Only one issue: Off by a whole Era.
Grub-Xer0 However, the continents in "Intercontinental" are actually North and South America - given that the title began as a fusion of WWF's North American championship with a (fictional) South American championship - and Europe - as the European championship was later merged into the IC title. To put the world unto the belt never made sense.
You got it wrong. Tito only held the belt for a year when Greg Valentine destroyed it in the cage but remember who else held it.Ken patara don Morocco and the belt did look good! They also had the tag team belt design same as the intercontinental belt.and the first person to use a different color strap was ultimate warrior
the 2nd design was before Tito won the title in 1984. Don Muroco held that 2nd version until losing it to Tito Santana. I clearly remember that title in the famous Muroco vs Sunka match in the Steel Cage in 1983. That title was destroyed after Greg Valentine smashed the title repeatedly into the steel cage when he lost the IC strap to Santana in 1985
It was because Ultimate Warrior still had possession of the IC belt. It was just around 3 weeks prior that WM6 happened. They were probably thinking Warrior would give it back immediately. From what I read Warrior, for the most part, did what he wanted, when he wanted.
TED Dibiase was the first Intercontinental Champion, it was called the North American Heavyweight Championship. Pat Patterson defeated Ted Dibiase on TV in 1979. That match was viewed in the NY area on Channel 9 WORTV at Midnight. I watched it when it happened, on TV back in 79.
Elik Anoa'i it was what the IC belt SHOULD look like. It had all of the continents of the world on the plates, whereas the classic Reggie Parks looked more like a World championship design. Like, if the Winged Eagle wasn't used, then the Reggie IC would've been used as the WWF championship. My favorite version of the belt was the one used during the RA era. The one made by Dave Millican, not J-Mar
the hell in the cell jmar title was seen on tv on wade barrett shoulder in the segment with santino and rick steamboat , in the ring match the normal one was used
I hope to someday get Midwest to make me a IC belt with the nugget texture but have the nuggeting like a bronze/copper color and the borders in gold. Maybe on a dark red trap
mates at 7:00 christian and at 8:08 shelton benjamin and carlito title belt when those three won it and wearing it around their waist looked good mates
