Brother you did fine on the presentation. In fact, you were absolutely correct on all the belts that were around from the 80's on today. Wishing that the WCW tag belts would be on sale at WWEShop. I currently have all but the first Unified World Tag Team titles (the bronze color belts) in my collection thanks to WWEShop. Again, great presentation.
Great video, thanks for posting. I actually like the current WWE belts. The bronze of the belt combined with the Spartan helmets I thought was some kind of nod to the spartan saying of "come back with your shield or on it."
The current WWE Tag belts are simply horrible. I wish Vince, Triple H, Stephanie, or whoever makes the decisions, would replace them with a design similar to the belts worn throughout the mid 80's and the 90's.
David Emshwiller Exactly!! I would have thought that the run The Usos had, WWE would see about changing the design. At this point, I’d be happy to see the old Smackdown tag belts come back!
im with u the new titles are crappy ive been watching wwf for 27 years I miss the one ones that' the bulldogs held and all the other great tag teams from 87-99
Doom was the first wcw world tag team champions. But the wcw world tag team championship belts debut on clash of the champions 17 held by the enforcers as defending champions.
I like all the videos, but i was really hoping you would know the date and whom it was that broke one of the WCW side plates. All i know is it was some time during mid 1996 or early 1997, but don't know for sure.
In case you never found out. Cactus Jack was wcw tag champ when he left wcw. he went to ecw, spat on the belt, threw it down, and broke the side plate.
So do I have correct that the Bulldog plates remained the same at one point but changed the side plates to the more taller side plates, as depicted at 4:19? Still nickel but with taller side plates.
Yeah they should at least use a different cut of leather. Going back to the original Raw and Smackdown belts would be better though. I really liked the original Raw tag titles. I also think the Universal belt should be scrapped in favor of the current WWE Championship since it has the red swoosh and the Big Eagle with network logos should be used on Smackdown
Why was the wwf tag team "world" logo coloured dark blue/ black? for a period from 1992 to 1993. Noticable when money Inc and the natural disasters tag teams wore them
If you talking about the NWA / WCW U.S. title belt there have been 7 versions of the U.S. title belt (1) Mid-Atlantic U.S. ( red leather strap ) (2) Mid-Atlantic U.S. ( black leather strap ) (3) NWA U.S. ( early 1980's ) (4) NWA U.S. ( 10 pounds of silver ) (5) NWA U.S. ( Luger / Koloff ) (6) WCW U.S. ( Reggie 6 plates ) (7) WCW U.S. ( J-MAR 3 plate ) The 2 Mid-Atlantic U.S. belts had a different side plate on them, I forgot which side plate it was
just one thing right off the bat. The proper wcw tag titles were first held by The Steiners, with the NWA titles being returned to the NWA. Dr death and Gordy beat the Steiners to become wcw tag champs, and then wcw staged a tag tournament to crown new nwa tag team champions; also won by Gordy and Williams. From this point on both belts were defended together, until the NWA belts were ditched.
Do you know why the WWE decided to use the WWE Tag Team title lineage instead if the World Tag Team title lineage? The later has much more history and, now that there's only 1 Tag team championship, wouldn't that make the WWE Tag team championship the WWWE World Tag team championship?
I actually like the current wwe tag belts. I only think it's copper because it has the back to back spartan helmets on them. It's worth a shot, I mean how many gold belts can there be in wrestling? Didn't TNA have a purple belt not too long ago? Nice video.
Actually doom was the first wcw world tag team champions from January of 1991 and lost it to the freebirds at wrestle war 91. But the nwa kept the records of all title history end of 1990
Hazard F5 I don't mean to judge you but I have to say that you missed one version of the tag team championship belts division from the 1980s looks kind of like the NWA world heavyweight championship belt very similar in design and shape is concerned but it just featured WWF logos and looked a cross between NWA world and NWA tv title
This is the history of the WCW and WWE tags dating back to the 90's. I didn't go back through the 80's designs as I said towards the beginning, I have limited knowledge on the 80's designs as I wasn't even born then.
Aztec-y? It's pretty clear that the current WWE Tag belts are meant for to have an Ancient Greek (specifically Spartan) feel. The helmets are near identical to the ones worn by the Spartans in the film "300", the background etchings are reminiscent of Greek designs (especially the outer edge, which looks like an old Greek urn, or Greek dinner coffee cup), the round shape is like a Greek shield, even the use of bronze and gold is evocative of the Bronze Age. I think they're brilliant.
I have to agree with you on the current design of the WWE Tag Team Championship. It doesn't do it for me. I tried liking it, but in order for me to like a belt, I have to ask myself when looking at it "do I want to add this belt to my replica collection?" And sadly for the Spartan Tag Team Champions design, the answer is an resounding "No". I'd much rather have the Smackdown Spinner.
Is it me or does the all 90's WCW Championship belts all three plates. The world, us, tag team, Hardcore, and cruiserweight Championships all have three plates
The reason the Hollywood blondes had both because williams and gordy beat the Steiners before winning the nwa tournament therefore for the next year teams wore both
Adam, that is the pic I got that Dan posted from FFTG some years ago and I posted it over on BeltTalk. Shane didn't get that pic from anybody. Also I would like to know why you ban me from ChampMarks? Chris
3:25 such a shame those belts never got any air time, I remember seeing The Outsiders and I think how terrible they looked. Syxx and his cruiserweight title and it looked like his belt was bigger and more prestigious than the tag titles. And honestly, on two guys as big as Hall and Nash were they made the belts look like toy replicas instead of actual titles. WCW should of scrapped those belts right after seeing them and demanded for a better looking belt, like you said with the nWo logo seeing as it was meant to be nWo tag titles, or if not... they should of demanded for their money back. Because those belts just looked like utter shit. Not like the ones at 3:25 ... now those belts looked like something a tag team would be proud to sport.
The ones Hall and Nash debuted were too small. The re-vised version they debuted in '99 and used in the Invasion were beautiful. The un used ones at 3:25 look like dog shit with that god awful WCW star logo on the plates.
I like the WCW tags (actually prefer the ones that were never used) but I much prefer the NWA tags. They, along with the 2002 Smackdown tags, are my favourite tag designs ever.
