I started VRchat in 2017 when I was 15 because I saw Woops and other small creators make VRchat content and it was the greatest decision i've ever made. Just this year I finally bought a PC and a Valve Index, I'm about to recieve my full body tracking too. I guess all the dreaming of being like one of those full body player in 2017 has finally came true.

Something I feel you definitely missed here was the vrchat role play community and how insane some of them are in terms of dedication. If anyone wants a good recommendation I'd have to say Fractured Thrones it is a medieval/fantasy rp started by Mr Brunswick and the absolute dedication this specific rp group has to make everything as realistic as vr allows is definitely a testament to what people can and will achieve as long as a platform is given to do it on. In short there is a good variety of role plays that exist Fractured Thrones is just my personal favorite but it's not the only one and I highly recommend taking a look at some of them if you get the chance.

Awwwww man! I was around before the Ugandan Knuckles stuff! The community back then was a small family, and it was so lovely. I would have loved to been interviewed! I have so many stories to tell! Edit: I was part of Nagzz's friend group back in the day. It's amazing seeing my old friend's names appear. Like Shadowsnipe, Ryan, MatSix, etc. I guess it has been many years now, but feels like yesterday. I hope to meet up with them all again someday

ah the nostalgia, I first played vrc back in 2018 so im a bit of a oldie, although 2018 was more of the darker days of the game it was still fun in many ways

My vr journey has been a wild ride, from starting on an oculus go, to a valve index with full body tracking. I feel complete. I feel like I’ve finally achieved my goal for vr, I’ve met so many great people and I hope I’ll continue to make amazing friends in vrchat!

I got into vr when the rift s came out. I played around in vrchat a bit after owning the headset for awhile, but I ended up feeling like I didn't belong there/too weird for me. I don't know why, but about a year and a half ago I decided to give it another shot, and now it's something I do almost daily. I love being able to make friends that live anywhere in the world! Vrchat has really changed me for the better too, I feel more confident socializing irl too.

I have never regretted starting to play vrchat, I met so many amazing people that even became part of my life, and I got to know many communities, and when I have my valve index, I'll never stop playing! Super fun video. Nice to hear the history of VRChat and how it became popular. I discovered VRChat through JoshDubs videos. Especially the Uganda knuckles memes. But I didn't get around to playing until recently in January 2022. Since I was stuck at home I didn't have much to do. So I thought I would play some VRChat with my Oculus Quest 1. And then during this period, I found your channel, which inspired me to play more and talk to people inside VRChat. I found a group of friends I hung out with; it was so much fun. Way more fun than doing nothing at home. So thank you for showing me how fun VRChat can be, and how the community is.

I started vr chat in mid 2014 and i had almost not played it much since back then there was never anyone on lol and i could never find anyone to talk to. But i kept playing just to find people. It was really fun back then even with out that many worlds. My friend Tom23 and I were actually some of the main world makers in the past. The first time a web player was added in game was insane. Back then the razer hydra was the only way to get your hands in vrchat and very few people had it but it was very awesome to see when people had them. Great video, im glad to see someone making a video about the history of vrchat going back to the start. VR chat may not be like it was back before but it still has pretty awesome communities.

Started this game after I bought my quest 2 in 2021. Funny enough, you were the first vrchat youtuber I started consistently watching. It was the start of my Jr. year and I had gone through a lot of friend drama. I needed an outlet for my extrovertism, and your videos made the game seem awesome. I didn’t realize he would put my Happy New Year 2018 video in here too lol, it’s cool he put a variety of other VRChat youtubers and not just popular ones, It’s very much appreciated, but also shows how much people come a long way since then, I’ll never forget the best moments. This was a great video, and everything very well explained. I started VRChat in November 2017 because I was inspired to play it especially since I wanted to meet Nagzz21 and Matsix and the rest of the gang, and I did, I wasn’t associated with them that much, so I went on my own adventures and made other friends, and play this game for 3 years and then later on my gaming laptop stopped working and I haven’t been making videos since then. I then played on desktop on another not so great laptop for a long time but then that one stopped working because it was old, but I’ll be back someday, I still got the original Oculus Rift in my room, remembering the nostalgia.

I started vrchat in fall 2020 after I got a gaming laptop for working from home. I hadn't had a pc in years, but still used a text-based chatting "game". A friend from that game suggested we try vrchat & I got sucked in. Thanks for including karaoke in this video! Totally my fave thing to do.

I started playing in 2021 when I got my quest 2 for my b-day and I love vrchat I was first introduced to it back in 2017-2018 threw RU-vid from naggz and Ryan those videos are what made me love the game and wanted a quest so bad I’m so happy I was finally able to get one and start going on my own adventures within vr coming from Xbox and years of console gaming this experience has been so different and amazing and I’m excited to see the future of vr with rumors of full dive tech in works that SAO type experience might be on the way and I can’t wait 😊😊 great vid

I saw Disrupt's video where he talk to people on their regrets in September 2020. It had been 5 months into lockdown, nothing made sense, and I had missed socializing with people. The video showed people, real people, and I wanted to meet them so much, even though it was through a screen. So I downloaded VRC the next day and 2 years later, here we are. I made so many friends, shared many great moments. And after lockdown was lifted, I met them in IRL, as many as I could. I had always been a social butterfly, and the thought of making friends online was so bizarre. When I met them IRL, I was so glad whatever connections I had made online, transcended screens and VR, and was as real as any other connections made IRL.

I started to play VRChat because I saw my brother play it. I joined november 2020. My first day was playing among us. Other days I went to Black Cat(it was a mistake) and got attacked by ugly micky mouses doing some weird noices. It was really scary for me at first.

What was nice about the security update is that not only did I not use mods, but I also was taking a break from vr during this time, and wasn't really into vr at the time, I'm just a casual player who hops on the quest 2 every once in a while, but I still love vr and might get into it more when I have a powerful enough pc to run it.

I started vrchat back in 2020 during COVID it was the only way I could really feel like I belonged so it brought me a sense of peace and I met so many good people and eventually I decided to dive deeper around December 2020 I ended up upgrading to my first ever pc with my quest 1 which had mic issues so I couldn’t really chat instead explored a lot of worlds.After a month or two that pc broke.Then I had to go back to stand-alone on my quest after awhile I upgraded to the quest 2 then towards the end of 2021 I got my current gaming laptop that I use to play vrchat then recently over the summer I made the upgrade to vive trackers and I must be honest I still play vrchat nearly everyday and can recall almost every experience I’ve had

Great video. I myself started playing back in 2015 on DK1. It's wild because from about 2013-2016 vr was not nearly as popular. I remember VRChat blowing up hard in 2018. Lots of good memories. I feel like an old man in vr lol.

I found out about vr and vrchat from my older sister. When I eventually got my first vr, I was so shocked and it wasn't what I expected. I didn't know that there were fallback avatars and main avatars, so all I saw was fallback avatars. The first world I went in was just filled with people screaming lol. I eventually made some friends and they helped me learn everything I needed to know about vrchat. I am still friends with these people even now.

I started on or before January 3rd, 2018, which is when the website API says my start date was, but I remember having to synchronize my VRChat account with Steam so IDK but I'm pretty sure I played it earlier than that, but just barely. Started playing vrchat on a laptop through desktop mode in 2017 after watching vids of that kiss fakeout and Ugandan knuckles singing in the lobby before ungandan knuckles even became a thing. 2018 I started building a pc and by christmas I had a whole pc and my parents surprised me with a HTC vive and a new hard drive and I started playing vrchat in vr off and on but due too my weird personality I never was able to make a big friend group to keep me coming back, just a bunch of random individual friends that I occasionally ran into.

I joined VRChat in Summer of 2020, my best friend had been playing for quite a long time by then and wanted to show me the game. So I skipped desktop mode entierly and went straight into VR. Some of my best moments in life were spent in VRC and I now have one of the most amazing friend groups I have ever been in because of it - I found my fursona through this experience and even went through the climax of the client users before the EAC update. It was a wild ride but I would never give up those moments because I have made so many positive memories through this game that never could have imagined before

I started VRChat in 2019. I first heard about it in 2018, when the Uganda Knuckles was popular, though I didn't find it interesting yet. Skip a year and I'm watching videos, I find a new youtuber: JoshDUB and I find him hysterical! He made the VRChat videos and I decided to install it on my computer. I waiteda few months before deciding to use my old WMR headset, now I'm planning to get a new one since the controllers are broken on it.

Y’know man…I originally wanted the rift S and also wanted the vive…but instead I wanted an index because of finger tracking, excellent audio, and movable lenses!

I just started playing in early December 2023 , my brother had a vr and I been a stay at home mom and never really know what to do with my free time besides nap and house chores , never done anything fun or exciting . I wanted to be more social , and I’m not able to go out much at all , I also have social anxiety , and this game has really helped me open up and to be myself . I can act goofy , and just be me and I feel so accepted . I’ve met some good friends I’ve added on discord and we play almost every night when I’m free !

A month ago, the day this video came out I watched this and I found the vrc club NFFC. And I joined it and watching your videos also are awesome and I love your videos, and your content is fun to watch after the harsh and stressful days of my life

I remember playing VRchat back in 2018 and it was honestly a much more chill game. It was significantly easier to meet people because the whole "mirror world" phase of the game hadn't taken over yet. The worlds back then were bigger and more open world and you didn't have the same issue with people congesting all in the same spot. The #1 issue back then was there was no game security or safety settings. The game also crashed WAY more than it does now.

I started VRChat in early August of 2018 after seeing the Knuckles meme on RU-vid. I still remember my first day like it was yesterday and all the popular worlds that are unpopular now. It helped me come out of my shell as I met with other players and befriended them, playing with them nearly every day. I have been on and off with this game since 2018 and have been very proactive since the beginning of this year. I have become very close with people around the world and several states from me and still keep in contact with some friends that I met in 2018. I have very fond memories of my years playing this (and not very fond ones too). I've seen VRC change and shift several times in my years. (The community was so different back in 2018) In 2018, I was a Desktop user but in 2020, I got a Rift S; I don't think I could go back to being a Desktop user again. Overall, it made me more sociable and less shy around others as well as saving me twice when I was at a low point in my life; it holds a deep place in my heart and I know others feel the same way.

I knew about VRC from Knuckles in 2018, but I never started playing until March 2020. I started watching VRC streamers around that time and I had made a friend a few months before who played, so I became part of a friend group quite quickly. Although I never really got too into VRC for a while, I kinda hopped on for a few days in a row and then stayed off for months. Even when I got VR in mid 2021, I never played much. It was around April 2022 that I fell for the game and have played almost daily since. Also, IDK if it's the same person, but I had a friend called Aezuki in VRC around 2020, we drifted apart and no longer talk tho. If it does happen to be the same person, I hope they're doing well

Mine was the old fireplace meetings back at the start of it. I remember like 20 people max being there. I vagely remember everyone freaking out when Polmer Lucky came to the anniversary

I clocked 24 hours in total as a desktop chibi Haku back in February of 2018. Watching Foxy almost daily pressured me into dropping 350 on a rift, and 750 on a graphics amp and 1080 for my alienware laptop. Once I started playing in vr in June, that 24 hrs quickly went up, and sitting at 5025hrs rn. Streaming the old vrc was the most fun I've had in a social game ever. The communities we built back then, and even some friendships lasting till now... It's such an incredible thought to realize that we got to experience that. The beginning of a true "metaverse." Fun fact, I'm still using my rift. Its held together with duct tape and superglue and velcro straps and the controllers are the same ones I used when I first saw Caboose's armored up hands moving around back on that weird early June day. I'll admit to being a vrc boomer. I miss the old loading music. I miss Gaia night, and the never have I ever world. The weird charm of joining a public lobby and not knowing if you're gonna get clapped immediately after all the blue people load in, or finally load in... to a bunch of very naked avatars spamming loud noises. The thing I miss most is my original streaming crew. I still keep in contact with some of them, but we grew a team over over 100 people in a lil discord server, humbly named the B3 (Big/Bigger Bada Boom). That, to me, was peak vrchat.

I remember starting playing vrchat 2017 I was 14-13 at that time it was a completely different experience I had, I didn't even know English at the time so it was great. (It was a completely coincidence I found vrchat)

I discovered and joined VRChat for the first time in March 2017 after having bought my first VR-headset, a HTC Vive that i found for sale on eBay second hand at half the price of a new set and it was barely used. I have many fond memories from back then and friends have come and gone trough the years. The first popular fad I encountered was the "Kanna gang" and I really enjoyed the variety of Kannas popping up here and there.

I started around October 2017 just wanted a more social experience and made vids etc. Then in 2018 met the Kitten Marching Band and now I'm the owner still do kitten marches to this day

I joined back in January 2018 during the Knuckles invasion (legit thought you could ONLY use a headset up till that point) but didn't really understand how VRChat worked. I mostly hung out in the hub world trying to find some of the Knuckles running around. I stopped playing 'cause my laptop at the time wasn't strong enough to play it properly but picked it back up a year later after getting a gaming laptop. Since then, I've slowly become a Pug regular, got me a headset (Rift S then a Quest 2) and the rest is pretty much history!

I remember feeling so cool with my Rift dk2 and leap motion for hand tracking in VRchat back in 2015ish. I also invested in a full body tracking kickstarter that never shipped, but kept the money. I'm ancient.

I wanted to start playing VRChat back in 2018. At that time I was a freshman in highschool and was taking a class where I was the only freshman. Some junior and senior friends of mine showed me VRChat and how it was free. I didn't get a PC until 2020 though and when I finally did, gave VRC a try. Just went around worlds making friends with people who were and not from the U.S. Even met some others who were of the same ethnicity as me, Hmong (an Ethnic Asian Minority) and we connected a lot with each other since there weren't many of us on VRChat. Even in real life many of us are pretty close to each other. After that, got myself a headset and I often hop on VRC either with online friends, or just as a means of virtually meeting with old highschool friends as we don't live in the same city or state anymore. Being in college now, classmates and I have become friends too just from finding out we play VRC. Being on VRChat often reminds me of the early wild west era of the internet that I barely got to experience lol.

I preordered the quest 2 after watching people like Mully and joshdub and didn’t realize that vrchat was on the oculus store until like 3 months after I bought it and once I did I started playing and immediately fell in love with it and I remember your videos showed me stuff I would’ve never knew but anyway keep up the good content

started playing vrchat in 2017 i think? trough desktop, i loved watching those youtubers, and it was really fun i got an oculus quest 2 for my birthday (22nd of october) in 2022, and i played so much, i currently have around probably over 300 hours on quest,and then i found out about pcvr, i currently have over ALMOST 200 hours on steam

first discoered vrchat in december 2017, when a friend asked if i could make him an avatar (all my freetime was spent in blender playing with animation and vfx) eventually on may third 2018 i tried VRC, thought it sucked. then didnt touch it until febuary 2021, when i got vr, i've been stuck here ever since.

I started vrchat in 2018 when I was 12/13 when ugondan knuckles meme were really popular and I was also part of it lmfao. I was a lil desktop user and I really enjoyed vrchat and made lots of friends and also got traumatized by ‘grown up stuff’ but now 17 and as a vr user on vrchat I still love vrchat and enjoy it ^^

If I can remember correctly, I started playing VRC in 2018 after I tried making Gmod avatars and that went horribly but it did give me some experience in Blender. I decided to move onto VRChat and created some basic avatars and experimented with stuff. Eventually, late last year, I got a Quest 2 and started getting more into the game and of course made more avatars. I decided to make avatar world and learned VRCTraders existed and joined on there. After enough work, and some help from my mom, I got enough money to get a good PC and finally play PCVR. Not I'm just doing stuff on there and trying to get better at making stuff in Blender.

I am more than grateful to have been part of such a Beautiful moment in time... such a meaningful game to me ❤❤❤

I think i started playing in 2018, still on my old "craptop" I actually worked for like 2 Years in order to get myself a proper PC and an oculus. Been active since. I just love playing and chilling with friends online. Allthough i have already upgraded my PC, i am still rocking my old oculus rift, im looking for an upgrade + fbt soon though. I started getting into Vrchat back in 2021, thanks to a bunch of friends. I didn’t think much of it back when it started getting traction during college. But since the pandemic and how mundane things felt, I decided to give it a try. Little did I know that I would start investing money into Vrchat by getting a headset and a gaming pc just to enhance the experience. Almost gonna be my second year using VrChat, and I have met some wonderful people on this game.

I started playing VRChat in November of 2018 when I got a PC and a CV1 Rift

My dad played vrchat back in 2016 (He still does). Little me was like "Woah" and my dad was more than happy for me to play it under his watch on his set up. Then I forgot about the game till 2018 -2019. A year after I got my first pc. Me and my dad would play and we made friends together and etc. Then in 2020, I got the Oculus quest. Then 2021 I got the Oculus Quest 2. My dad took my Oculus quest. Then I was IN LOVE and OBSESSED. My dad started to slow down on playing it due to irl issues. But I just started playing it more and more. I got a job in 2022 and got an index and FBT. Now in 2023, sadly, I hardly play due to irl problems. But my dad is starting to play it so much more now with the most recent vive trackers, that new oculus headset with face tracking and index controllers.

Brought a VR headset a few weeks ago. Been playing VRchat for a while. I been having a good time so far. By I still haven’t made any friends yet.

Oh damn. I should have been here also. I started VRchat in 2017 December 15. After watching jameskis 2nd video, I quickly head up to my cousins house since he has better wifi. Downloaded and played the game. My cousin notice what im playing. Got interested, we played together. Then started our journey in getting VR to play VRChat. Fast forward to now, we both have VR. PC capable for PCVR, He has full body, and soon ill get full body too.

I actually began playing in June/July 2022 while I was recovering from my wisdom teeth surgery, after being a toxic rec room player for 2 years. So far, VRChat has single handedly cured my toxicity, and so far I've had so much more fun in 2 months in vrc than I ever had in rec room in over 2 years. It's definitely been an interesting ride thus far

i started playing about 2 years ago i’ve spent so much time in vr since and i honestly dream of being a vr influencer very soon i’ll be receiving fbt and a new headset.

I discovered VRC i think mid 2017 started playing like late September/early october 2017 (still have some screenshots and very short vids from back then :D) and played it until 2019. II had just moved back then and had trouble fitting in so this game really helped me and was the main reason for me wanting a VR. Though After 2019, i kinda stopped having fun due to me not being really able anymore to find new people but also losing contact to many of the old friends i had. Without a VR being in a room of of often just mirror dwellers wasn´t too fun. I´d only play it after that for a few events or with a irl friend. Only recently, after finally getting my Headset have I started playing again and i have already found so many new friends again. I think the thing i missed about old VRC is being able to just meet people randomly again even if you don´t have them in your friends list because the community was so small. That and Solid Snake Gopnik raids. Although I must say, the first thing you do get again especially in PC worlds with smaller returning player bases.
