Hockey Night in Canada takes a look at Evgeni Malkin, who talks about adapting to life in the United States after being drafted and jokes about being left off the NHL Top 100 players list.`
Came to a whole new country with a language barrier, with no friends and family for support. Faced with various adversities, but he still managed to shine bright like a fkn diamond and succeed with greatness. Major props to Malkin.
Buddy I think if you played for the penguins and landed here from out of country you would do the same. Everyone loves you already no need for any extravagances
well he has been in TSN's top 10 every year that I remember, and yet hes not in the NHL top 100 figure that one out. They put toews in there but he is the most undeserving player of anyone in that list, as well as the most overrated player in the league.
did you watch game one last night? He almost took it end to end twice. he develops so many plays and is an amazing goal scorer! You're crazy to think he's overrated.
@@mrfake675 I’m assuming that’s sarcasm, but just in case it’s not, what do you call dancing through three people with the puck on a string and then ripping a shot in corner of the net. I mean the guys are hacking and swinging and can’t get him to slow down or get the puck. Idk what else you’d call elusiveness.
He signed his Hart Trophy, his one and only and gave it to his best friend. I understand why people may dislike him on the ice, with his talent and competitiveness, but off the ice he’s a gem
Dam .... Im really hoping he wins This year. Hes either leading the league in points or Dam close , but nobody's even.TALKING about Malkin as MVP.?!? That's the only annoying part about having Two Superstars on the same team. Both him AND Crosby have missed out on Hart wins when they've Well deserved it , because the argument will always be ..." but they have the other..etc etc.." Very frustrating. But im pretty sure the Three Cups and Three Conn Sm. Awards ... have softened the blow. Lol..👍
@@willstuart4504 Crosby has missed a couple awards and malkin probably 1. But time will pass once Malkin is gone and hockey community will remember how awesome he was on the ice
A list of active players Malkin has higher points per game in his career than: Ovi Kane Mackinnon Panarin Toews Marchand Pastarnak Bergeron Stamkos Kucherov Draisaitl Matthews Marner Giroux Kopitar Stone Your favorite player (excluding crosby / mcdavid) Just to name a few... As a biased pens fan, Malkin is one of if not one of the the most CRIMINALLY underrated players of our generation.
Geno will always be my favorite player. On top of being super talented he has an amazing personality. I could listen to him speak all day because he's very smart and funny.
As a pens fan I hope malkin realizes he’s not in Sids shadow. When he steps on that ice we know we are seeing absolute brilliance and our hearts start pumping. He pushes the team just as much as Crosby. I wish they could give out co-captaincy because he’d rock CC along with Sid.
define underrated? he's a top 25 guy every year, is paid like a top 25 guy and produces like a top 75. he misses to many games and is always hurt. I think his rating is accurate
Watching this again 6 years later I cannot imagine our organization without him. Arguably the greatest Russian of all time, countless awards, cups, and records. And did it all playing behind sid. Truly one of the most underrated players in NHL history
bennnyboyc No, not 20 lol. More like top 50. Top 30 is Sakic/Yzerman/Clarke/Messier/Trottier/Bossy tier, and he is definitely below this due to inconsistency and injuries. He is 100% in the top 100 though lol. He is becoming overrated along with Crosby due to fanboys/fangirls, but he is this generations Forsberg. Not the “best”, but definitely up there. Crosby is top 15 (people say “his peak”, but he NEVER had the peak due to injuries...and that is his fault for not being able to stand on the ice).
He's actually this generation's FEDOROV. Fedorov's totals over 13 years in Detroit = 554 assists, 400 goals, 954 pts Malkin's totals over 12 years in Pittsburgh = 560 assists, 370 goals, 930 pts. Malkin's going to match Fedorov's Detroit number total next season. Scoring 30 goals and 24 points should be a piece of cake for him.
I have all Malkin, Crosby and Ovechkin above Sakic and Yzerman. But people often forget about the older guys like Morenz etc. Malkin is the best player, but both Ovechkin and Crosby are above him inside the top 20.
@@roccoanthony8930 Joe Sakic is not clearly a better hockey player than Evgeni Malkin. Im not saying Malkin is better, all Im saying is that the gap between them is too small for you to be so certain.
Geno rules! Can't underestimate how much Sarge meant to him adjusting him to the NHL and the city. I think that's a big part of why Malkin never left Pittsburgh when he could have gone anywhere. Winning is everything.
He’s led the league in points as many times as Crosby, has as many Cups, steps up his game in the playoffs sometimes more than Crosby. Should be top 100 too.
Mr. Malkin, your playing style and talent will go down in history in the top ranked players of all time. As a former hockey player, I am awed by what your do in times of critical moments, and those are the moments that count. In my busy life,, I only watch the playoffs these days, and I am always thrilled to watch you do your magic. I particularly appreciate how you and Mr. Crosby place the prize before the pride as partners in hockey war. Comradery at its finest. Please make your final statement of your hockey career spectacular, and live up to the legend that you have so graciously earned. Keep your magical partner Sid in your wings, and shatter the records together. thank you, Alan
If he was born in North America, or if he played on another team (besides maybe the blackhawks or capitals) he's top maybe even 50. His production doesn't change when Crosby's out, he develops w/ new teammates really well, he can take over games by himself, he scores in the playoffs, he's been amazing since day one in Pittsburgh. I'm biased and could be proven wrong over time, but I can't imagine McDavid/ Draisatl being the eventual 1-2 Center pair Crosby/ Malkin are. We're so spoiled in Pittsburgh
Grest video. Geno is hilarious. As a pens fans and season ticket holder, I'm so thankful I got to watch him all these years, such a great player and person. I'm really dreading that day when he's no longer a penguin.
Lists will often be criticized but the NHL Top 100 more so as it did not include an obvious choice and generational talent like Malkin. It was great to see a story about Malkin off the ice. Years ago, I remember a show called Snapshots with Jim Hughson where he would do long form interviews with NHL players. Hopefully a longer piece can be done on Malkin as it would have been great to see more
Im from Cambridge ontario Canada and my biggest dream is to ONE time sit and watch a Pittsburgh game in Pittsburgh...it would be a dream come true to see the boys at home. Go Pittsburgh
83 points in 82 games as a 36 year old 😯Geno is the third best player from his era (only behind Sid n ovi) if his injury’s never happened he would be in the 1500+ point range. One of the craziest what if career moments in my nhl lifetime. Ridiculous he was left off the top 100. 1229 points in 1063 games played. And he’s not slowing down. Malkin has dominated competition for almost 20 years. As a pens fan it’s honour and privilege to watch Sid/genos careers stay in pittsburgh. LGP!!!
Pens fans (like myself) who lived in Pittsburgh their whole lives watched Mario/Jagr & when that ended it really sucked, same with this era of Crosby/Malkin & when that ends its really going to suck! Special time right now, enjoy it Pens fans while we have it!
2:20... That happened in Moncton, NB and I was there. Was so excited when I first saw this kid, but when I saw that collision, I thought to myself "Man, is that the end of his career already?!" I was scared for Malkin... ending his career like that wouldn't have been fair at all for him. So glad to see that guy back later on and having an awesome career!!!
Malkin has some of the most ridiculously amazing goals that I would put up against ANY highlights from any player ever. And the thing is, a LOT of them are just straight up raw talent and skill... not boring crap like flying down on a 2-on-1 and someone passes it to him and he 1-times the puck in to the net, I'm thinking of stuff like this (watch?v=EgX-d2YKHtk), he's in the rangers end alone with 3 rangers, he steals the puck, skates the other way, does a spin move and backhands it in to the net....
My favorite Russians to wear the Black and Gold....Geno and so so much tears and respect for him to acknowledge the man who went out of his way to take him under his wing...55. THE Powerplay quarterback Sergei Gonchar
He is a once in a Generation Talent . He does things that I have never seen Sid do . He's is a common man , blue collar type that comes from a Steel town , like the one he now lives in and plays for . What's not to like ? Should have made the top 20 at least 50 .
Earlier this year when he scored a goal on a deflection off of his knee from a shot by Sid…he was in a lot pain and had to leave the ice…however, when asked later if he thought he’d be okay and he said “yeah, it was shot by Sid, if it were anybody else it’d be a lot worse.” 😂
@@hughmungus8320 He finally scored last night. Hopefully he can get back to where he was pre-covid. He was a beast. Since covid hit he’s been sleepwalking lmao
The best part about geno is that you watch this video and you think “haha what a funny guy” but then you watch mad geno and you would pray to give him a wide berth.
idk if hes underrated cause hes a certified beast. i think for some reason hes been an after thought sometimes maybe cuz of sid. but hes a future HOFer no doubt
