I always thought the focus rs was beautiful but love how subtle the gti looks and it can blend into regular traffic easily.

I’ve had a few hot hatches like the GTI performance pack. Merc A45. I now have a TCR. This is by far the best of the bunch. So much fun. Awesome hot hatch for a family!

Matt, great review - pacy and to the point. You have scored a subscriber! Having driven the TCR and Megane Trophy how do they measure up? Which is more bonkers performance wise? Which sounds better? Which has the best build quality, and which is the nicer daily driver?

Thank you! The Renault Megane is the quicker car without a doubt, and power delivery is more "push you back in your seat"... But I know that build quality and drivetrain reliability is a bit iffy, so I would probably take this (but it's hard to say for sure 😁)

In 2016 we bought a 2017 GTI 6 spd, my other half decided to give up lessons and just trade to the dsg. So we did. I found wheel hop upon full stop to full throttle agonizing, it was violent although not as bad as it sounded. I traded in 2017 to the Golf R 7.5 no more wheel hop :-) but the added weight sucked, that being saif the R really tears ass, but in order to put all that power to the pavement you need at LEAST a LSD, and the TCR has it. Great Review I live your videos even though im in Canada, we consider you our little bro...lol..my first vw was a 1987 with 81hp so we have some a long way,..

@@CarSauce right on,..we will be here withopen arms lol. Yeah that Hyundai has mad hop,...i thought i busted something on my first launch with the GTI..it was offputting. Anyway ill keep watching and sharing Matt,...its great to watch your channel grow. Cheers Tyler.

@@tymac3306 All my new Beetles do that when I spin the wheels. It is alarming but I guess I just avoid doing it lol. But in my Turbo it was hard to resist.

Another question to consider is the new GTI is due in a couple of months in Australia. Won't (initially at least) have the same power and many don't like the new styling and new infotainment system vs perhaps better resale & better chassis (compared to current std GTI anyway)

It's a good point. I think special editions regardless will hold their values better than the standards, and in Australia for a GTI this is as special as it gets!

Great video but the Tcr was never the most powerful GTI; it was the Clubsport S that had come out some years before

May be an unpopular opinion but I personally like the clubsport/s better than the tcr. Looks better and handles better on the track but we dont get either on this side of the pond 🙃

In canada i paid $42500.00 for the Golf R plus tax. The GTI i bought in 2016 was $34,750 both brand new. Our money is the same value as yours,..CAD is only ahead by $0.05, why such a huge difference u think?

It's a shame Volkswagen never sends special GTI models over to America, I really want one (well, scratch that if its automatic only lol). But the Clubsport at least would've been cool. Did you get those down under Matt?

Yes we did! 500 in total, 100 of which had a manual 🙂 I haven't driven a manual golf gti, but I've heard their gearbox is quite average?

@@CarSauce yeah I hear people say that a lot about VW shifters. They're maybe not engineered for sportiness, they seem to be designed for ease of operation, thus lead to a vague feeling. In my book I will take a less than ideal manual shifter feeling over driving automatic anyday (until my knees start to go lol). But yeah, still jealous of the cool models VW sends literally everywhere else besides the US. The only cool 'special' GTI we got for the MKVII was the Rabbit Edition last year. While cool, especially that cornflower blue color, it wasn't upgraded in any way.

@@CarSauce also as an example, in my 03 beetle, the shifter looks like it only rests in two positions, 'third' and 'fourth' though that wasn't as much a problem on my Turbo S bug. What I mean is that you push left and up to select first, and then when your hand leaves the lever, it will spring back to a forward and middle position, like third, but its totally in first hahaha.

Or why not just the fender audio system? They put beats audio in the new mk7 gli's as cost cutting and they sound like trash. Like complete garbage compared to the fender in my 7.5 gti, and bose is better than beats but still pretty meh. I have bose in my infiniti and my friend has beats audio in his mk7 gli, neither compare to the fender audio. But fender audio doesn't compare to harman kardon and such. My mk6 gli with fender audio is even better than the mk7 gli with beats audio and it doesn't even have a sub like my gti does.
