You have upgraded my understanding of infrared heaters. The idea of how they do the job of heating-up-the-air had always confounded me.

The understanding of infrared heaters can be a little complex but they use infrared radiation to heat the house. The radiation will gently heat your skin without drying it

I've used infrared in my basement for years and it is an outstanding source of heat. In Nova Scotia the basements can get pretty cold but these little guys are efficient and effective ... Cheers

Yes agree infrared heat works great. And heating up a basement is one of the hardest areas to heat.

What is that fancy thermostat you have? I also need this for my basement. Thinking of going to buy this tomorrow after watching your great video. Any recommendations for keeping my bathroom in the basement warm. Maybe a wall heater?
@MiamiCOIndiana

The Thermometer in video was a gift from my sister. If you’re trying to heat a small bathroom and the door would be closed a small wall heater like the Envi should work really good. The heater in this video would be overkill for just a bathroom.

I have a heat pump that is 14 seer and use nat'l gas in a two stage 95% efficient heater and I still use my Home comfort as supplemental heat because it is so cheap to use, and I like the heat that it puts out, don't get me wrong this unit will heat my whole 1475 SFT. Home down to about 15F. I have had several of the 1500 watt units that are out there and this unit outperforms all others that I have seen and by far.

Great videos! I'm actually heading to get one of these right now, mainly because of your post. I did have a question though regarding the concerns of humidity. Isn't necessary to have a humidifier on hand because of running these heaters? So that if the moisture gets too low, you can push some water in the air? Thank you
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana Год назад
I think you’ll be very pleased with it. And humidity needs to be maintained at minimum of 35% for these heaters to work best I usually don’t use my exhaust fan when taking showers in wintertime which adds moisture to the air and on occasion I do run a humidifier if it gets to dry. Let me know how it is working out for you once you start using it.

-2F here in east TN this morning. I had three Home Comforts heaters on 80 degrees. It never got above 52 F in my house all night. I have decided to sell all three heaters for $50 each and see what I can find that will actually heat my house. My electric bill will probably be over $5oo this time.

Every situation can be different where I live we hovered around zero for several days and nights. When it’s this cold I have to use 2 infrared heaters I use my home comfort and my edenpure heater. I find once it goes above 15 degrees outside then I can go back to only using the home comfort heater and thats all. I also heat 1 bedroom all winter with a Envi wall mounted low watt heater. My house stayed at 72 degrees durning the entire cold snap but both heaters were staying on almost all the time. Understand also houses in the south generally are not insulated as well as they are in the North as below zero temperatures are very rare even in Tennessee. I’m sorry you didn’t get good results and hope you find a solution to your heating needs.

Does the home comfort heater save on your electric bill compared to the Eden pure 3rd generation heater? Which one uses more KWh? Thank you and great video
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana Год назад
Very similar results actually. Both used around 1400 watts when on and both cycled on and off to keep set temperature. One feature I really like on the Home Comfort is if power goes off, when power is restored it kicks back on at same settings, the Edenpure Gen 3 did not have that feature. Both I found as excellent heaters.
@Butchey24

Hey. I saw some videos on the eden pure heaters. The element stay on even after you turn it off. In one video I saw that was actually smoking. What's your opinion on that.
@MiamiCOIndiana

Had my gen 3 edenpure for many years never had that issue. When you turn it off it should have went through a cool down cycle and just ran the fan for a couple minutes with the elements all off.

Just bought this heater and at first had trouble keeping it on till I raised the temperature, like you said not exact, my question is my bulbs are more of a yellow orange, are they supposed to be red? I'm just concerned because of the initial trouble that it might not be working well. There is good heat coming out of the unit.
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana Год назад
Yellow/orange would be correct, and on this unit if any of the bulbs aren’t working the green light on the front of the heater will start blinking to alert you one or more bulbs aren’t on. And seems to be a defect on the thermostat as I know someone else where it doesn’t read correct, however once you find what temperature to set it to keep temperature at your desired temperature it will hold it right there. Hope this helps I’m sure you’ll find it heating your space well.

Unfortunately, I think I have to give up on the "Home Comfort" as my primary heat source. I ended up buying a second one in hopes the two would heat my 765 sq. ft home but they just do not. Our temps have been in the upper 20`s to lower 30`s at night here in east, TN and with both heaters set to 75 degrees, my house never gets warmer than around 60-62. I also got my electric bill yesterday and it was $309.00. I think perhaps not having carpeted floors might be the issue. I have laminate flooring throughout my home. I am going to try kerosene heaters, which will be fine when I am home but I have to find another heat source during the hours I am at work.
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana 6 месяцев назад
Wow Lynncrum that is crazy only getting up to 60 -62 degrees with 2 of them running! How’s the insulation in your home? Are windows double pane? Any cold air drafts you’re aware of? With the higher electric rates it will cost around $120 per month per heater so your bill would be in line 2 x $120 =$240 plus your lighting and whatever else you use. We have been in the 20s several nights I’m using only the one heater set to 73 and my house stays around 70-71 (the thermostat on heater reads a little off). I do use a Envi heater in one small bedroom that I close off at night for my cat to sleep in besides that no other heat source at all in the house. My last electric bill was $145 but covered the heater and everything else as I’m total electric. Now that will increase in the dead of winter and if we have severe cold snaps. The highest I ever got to last year was $217 electric bill again which includes heating and everything else (lights dryer stove water heater electronics etc). I’m really amazed it did so poorly in your situation. As far as flooring that might be a small factor but I can’t see it making it that much of a difference. Understand my house has new windows insulation in all walls and extra insulation added to attic so I’m heating a very well insulated house or around 850 sq feet fine.
@lynncrum
@lynncrum 6 месяцев назад
@@MiamiCOIndiana The windows are double paned but they are older. I have checked everywhere and cannot feel any hidden drafts. My two doors are newer and sealed very well. Mobile homes, especially older ones, have thin walls , so the insulation isnt as thick as it would be in most homes. I have tried a variety of heaters. In fact, I currently own 11. lol I even bought two, 220 heaters and had 220 outlets installed. They seemed to put off more heat BUT my electric bill was close to $500! I have the oil filled radiator type heaters and two other kind of infra red, including an infra red fireplace. I also have two baseboard style and some of the Milk House heaters. I may just have to get a mini split or two installed and forget all the space heaters completely. The kerosene heaters really work well but as I said, thats just when I am home. I have to have something else while Im gone during the day.
@lynncrum
@lynncrum Год назад
I bought three infra red heaters last winter. They were from an outlet store in our area called "Ollies". They were inexpensive at $69.00 each. I placed them throughout my home last winter but in all honestly, the three together did not keep my house warm. I am a very hot natured person so do not like it really hot but I have large birds that do require it stay somewhat warm. With winter right around the corner, I am considering other sources for heating. I live in a small 780 sq.ft mobile home. I have been looking online for the Home Comfort/Heat4Less heater. They seem to run around $300.00. Is that about normal for this type of heater? Anywhere in particular you would recommend I purchase one from? This will be my one and only source of heat, so I need to make sure it will work.
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana Год назад
Every heating situation is different. Many factors come in to play like how many sq feet, how well insulated, how cold is the climate you’re in all are factors you must consider. Home comfort is a great heater and as you stated they cost around $299 (2022 price). I can’t say it will completely heat your home due to the factors I listed. I can tell you it is a great product and you should see much better performance than other cheaper knock off brands. Don’t let anyone tell you that a watt is a watt and all heat exactly the same, as I’ve totally debunked that claim trying many types of electric heaters. Keep me informed on what you choose and best to you keeping warm this winter.

UPDATE: I have been using the Home Comfort/Heat4Less heater for the past few weeks. We have had mild temperatures so far here in East Tennessee but we have had a few nights that dropped into the upper 20`s. Unfortunately, the heater could not heat my 780 sq ft mobile home. It would run non-stop and the temperature would not get above 60. So, I ordered a second Home Comfort/Heat4Less heater. I was hoping two would make a difference but unfortunately, when I have two heaters running at the same time, it constantly throws a breaker. I have tried different outlets but apparently only one outlet in my mobile home will support the heater. So, I`m not sure what to do now. I know with winter not even really here yet, it will be a struggle to heat. Do you think there is another type of heater that would work better in my situation? May I also mention, my electric bill jumped to $297.00 this month using just the one infra red heater. I do have two 220 outlets in my mobile home. Would a 220 heater work better in my situation? I saw your video on the wall mounted heater for your cats room. Would several of those heaters work better? I`m at my wits end trying to figure out how to heat my home this winter. As I said, it is an older 1977 mobile home and Im sure the insulation isnt great. I also do not have carpeting. It has vinyl flooring throughout the home. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@@lynncrum you probably need a ceramic/convection style heater. From my understanding these infrared don’t heat up air, they heat up objects. Try ceramic/forced air

Does any part of the power cord or the plug heat up during operation?
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana 2 года назад
That’s a very good and important question to ask. First it is imperative to have the heater directly plugged into wall outlet, no surge protector, no adapter no extension cords. Secondly make sure you are on at least a minimum 15 amp circuit preferably a 20 amp with nothing else running on that line. I had a separate line ran on 20 amp circuit with heavy wire directly from the breaker box to the outlet I use. I find even when running continuously for hours the plug only gets slightly warm and notice little to no heating up on the cord to the heater. If you ever have a plug that feels “hot” or the cord feels very warm I would for safety not use the heater until you have the electrical outlet check by a electrician. Hope this helps.

With temps at 600 degrees inside, what is the temperature of the outside, the case?
@MiamiCOIndiana

Only part that is hot is right where the heat exits. The top and sides of the heater stay cool to the touch, Where heat exits there is a “felt pad” to reduce possible burns if touched but you can’t keep your hand there very long as the air is so hot coming out. Hope this helps.

Does it save money to heat with it vs oil or gas?
@MiamiCOIndiana
@MiamiCOIndiana 2 года назад
The clear cut answer to that is yes. The heater uses approximately $3 a day in electricity when it’s running on average. Little more when really cold out as it runs more continuously, less when not as cold out and runs only part of the time (cycles on and off). Even when I have to use on occasion a 2nd heater when really cold out I still estimate at most around $100 a month electricity use for the heat. Hard to give the exact amount when house is total electric when not using the gas fired furnace including an electric water heater. The comfort level although is far superior to the gas fired furnace. Totally even heat in every room. Using only the natural gas furnace before I made the switch was on average $125-$150 per month plus an estimate of around $20 a month in electricity use to run the furnace blower. Hope this helps.

My house is 950 sq ft. However in winter I close off my enclosed porch which is around 100 sq feet area. So I’m heating around 850 sq ft. Electric rates are up so last winter I estimated around $120 per month in the coldest months was used to use just the heater. But I did stay warm and comfortable all winter long. Also note I use a low wattage wall mount heater in one of my bedrooms that uses 500 watts when on. Hope this helps.
