you can still use this design just have steering knuckles in the rear with inner solid mounted tierods to keep the rear toe aligned as the suspension travels, thumbs up this so he notices lol

I was thinking the same thing. Make it go from the plate mounted on a pivot to the frame right under the motor

I think a litle bit and kam up with three point wishbone. But then you had mutch preshur on the one on top pipe, so its not the best idea but I hope it will help a litle bit!

All you need is one extra swing arm up top and the trailing arms attached to the bottom swing arm check out the arctic cat wild cat side by side rear suspension or an early 90’s Polaris snowmobile with trailing arms. You have too many hyme joints they only have hyme joints on the outside attached to the drive hubs the inside are bushings which limit movement on the horizontal plane. your a smart guy I love your ingenuity. 👍🏻excellent job bro!

Rather B, i love the new project, it's gonna be great. I think you could save your suspension if only you connect your front heim joint on the same rod as your rear. You have differing pivot points causing travel to angle. Still want it to connect at a 45 degree so the heim can twist enough. But your design is aesthetically pleasing and simple. More moving parts always leaves more room for error.

Just came from your Lathe build.. Excellent work.. If you're still thinking about making it speed variable, have a look at a 2 speed motor for an eveaporative cooler. Fit a variable speed pulley to it and have a spring loaded belt tensioner to take up any slack. Should give you a good speed range. Easy to fit and only around $100 - $150 for all new parts.

A four link (double wishbone) can still be done. Just with a single frame pivot on the top. Keep two pivots on the spindle. For the lower control arm it looks like an H pattern will fit fine. Looks killer! Good luck

You can do a double wishbone suspension at the rear by moving the pivot point outside of the rear cog in line with the first joint of the drive shaft. Then you are clear of the cogs and chains and no longer need to do a complex 5 point suspension to counter the swing arm bump steer and scrub.

When you tack the pipes up for the rear suspension links, the hyme joints are adjustable, it’s just like a rzr rear end
@georgehembrow5398
@georgehembrow5398 5 лет назад
Also you should have enclosed the brake disk and sprocket inside the frame rails. You will have a lot less problems with the rear suspension, the radius of your axles should be closer to the radius of your swing arms. You will have less binding and movement of the cv joints, also building it and driving it...I’m building a Kawasaki zxr6 powered buggy right now. My rear suspension is very similar to yours...love your work keep building bro!!!

Perfect case of knowing enough to get yourself in trouble but in the end not knowing enough you say you want it to look professional then design it first that's what professional fabricators do
@hydrogen18
@hydrogen18 5 лет назад
Just a piece of thought: You're building a vehicle with much more traction and weight than the original motorcycle. The clutch is cooled by the engine oil. You are likely to be very hard on the clutch when riding offroad. You may want to consider adding an external oil cooler to increase the capacity of the system. Most people do this by drilling the oil pan and then using the sump vent to return the oil.

Once again great work Chris.! I would actually do a swing arm rear suspension like the vw Baja bugs uses less hiems joints more simple the only thing is with this set up you’ll have to find away to have the axle shaft slide in an out as the suspension cycles just a thought. Great video!

I feel your pain on that suspension. I'm no expert on them but having built 4 karts with bike motors and full suspension and now working on number 5 powered by a 1000cc yamaha. I really feel your pain but just keep working at it thy do eventually work.

You can still use the current suspension by moving the forward hyme joint to the main rail and then the upper hyme joint to the upper rail of the rear arm to form a "Y".

Super cool build but before you start the next development of the rear suspension the pivots need to be inline with the pivot of the CV on both ends and also the same principle on the front with the resting pivot of the steering rack.

to fix that rear-steer issue, i would just move the front heim-joint inwards on that tube it is sitting on now, so it is inline with the rear bottom heim-joint... then it wouldnt angle funny when cycling the suspension, other than moving out when moving up. and there was no need for 78 extra heim-joints ;-) i love the project btw, and is looking forward for the next episode :-)

what you can do, its make your supports for the double wishbone suspension on the outside of the sproket, in fact you want to have the pivot points of your axles correlate with the pivot point of your suspension, that way all the arms move on the same amount and you dont put more stress on either your cv joint or your tie rods
