Almost 220,000 Km started making the noise. This is very common problem in this model Civics (7th Gen). It turned out to be the input shaft bearing (ISB).

I bought an 05 Civic with this exact problem. I've had it for 6 years now, and the transmission hasn't gotten any worse. Every mechanic I've spoken to says it's not worth getting it fixed. You're likely going to have to replace the entire transmission, and it's better just to wait until the transmission actually craps out. For me, despite those noises, it still shifts fine and everything.

I fixed my input shaft bearing in a day, only cost 60 bucks for the bearing. Yes it is worth it. The mechanics you talked to are lazy unmotivated shit. If that bearing fails you're gonna know it. The rest of the transmission is fine. It literally only takes a few hours to do.

My 2001 Honda Civic Ex is making the same noise. It happened after I drove from FL to Va and lost the gas cap. I replaced the cap, got a oil change (the car has 160k miles), checked the filters which are clean, lastly had a technician look for a evap leak which there was none and replaced the spark plugs. After all that the noise has gottin worse and theres a chemical smell every now and then while I'm driving. Also let me mention that the gas gauge has been time lapsing, this was after the mechanic replaced spark plugs and checked for Evap leak.

I had that sound too, like a screw rattling sound behind the manifold, but then it got hot 4 days ago, the meter went to the H, i turned down the a/c and it bounced up and down around mid way, I was told it could be my transmission, my clutch, my exhaust, or even the pcv valves. Now due to covid outbreak at my auto shop which was 2 miles away, I can't drive it far to another shop. It has a putta - putta sound on the 1st and 2nd gear acceleration and shifts..what is it? ?? I have a 2001 manual honda civic..just spent $1200 in May replacing parts and maintenance work..no engine or lights coming on..

Mines currently at a transmission specialist having a rebuild. Its a very common fault on the Honda 5speed manual. Mine made it to 147k miles. Its not massively expensive to get fixed much cheaper than replacing the car.

I have a 2002 coupe ex and I just bought mine with 200.000miles on it but the big issue is that I didn't drive it when I went to look at it because I didn't have a license at the time so they wouldn't let me drive but I brought someone with me that has years of experience in driving and he said he didn't hear any sound like that so now I'm stuck with it making that noise and other problems.

If it makes that noise and then stops when u push the clutch in then its not the transmission or input shaft bearing, its the throw out bearing and a new clutch kit will come with the throw out bearing and if ur pullin the trans out to change a throw out bearing the u should just go ahead and do a clutch job while ur in there, dont replace the whole transmission for a $30 part that went bad ur gonna waste a shit ton of money
@kami0000
@kami0000 5 лет назад
@@alanmckaybmx no offense but you clearly don't know how the manual transmission works. Mine would go away after pressing the clutch and it was the ISB. Throw out bearing makes noise while engaging clutch or when the clutch is disengaged. Fixing the ISB requires opening the transmission but yeah he should change the clutch and all the bearings while he's at it.

@kami0000
@kami0000 4 года назад
@@michaelkoehn7615 I don't know because I never tried. The best way to identify it to take the car somewhere quiet, turn it on, press the clutch and release. If the noise goes away when you press the clutch pedal down, the chances are it's your ISB.

Same thing happen to me, turned out to be the pilot bearing on the flywheel. When i pulled the clutch and flywheel the pilot bearing was in pieces, damaged the clutch and the flywheel teeth. If you hear that noise, dont drive it on, it'll cause more damage than it already has. This was for a 02 honda civic ex Manual with 150xxx on the odo.
@kami0000
@kami0000 4 года назад
Mine was the ISB. This is a common problem in these civics and older ones. The diagnostic is that when you press the clutch the sound goes away. In the pilot bearing case I'm guessing if you pressed the clutch the sound would continue.
@tangedal9983

Kam Jav yo I’m trying to figure this out. Because if I don’t have to disconnect my exhaust and drop my tranny through sub frame then I don’t want to. Mine is doing exactly what’s happening in video. If you rebuilt your tranny and it went away right. So what if you didn’t change your clutch pilot bearing and throw out bearing. Would the noise still be there. Or could it be because you change the clutch and pressure plate and both pilot and throw out bearing.
